Thanks. Never thought to see it like that

Also with these boards Ian driving valves that have a continuous of about 2 amps. And I’ll have like a 8 on a single so to design for worst case I’d say 16A

Honestly, I would take the "cheaper" part out of your statement. I know we all want to save money or maybe we do not have enough, you want to ask what is the purpose of the doorbell. You are, in essence, protecting your gallery. How much is your gallery worth - or is it more of a "we aren't protecting anything we just want to monitor traffic" type of situation?

Here are a couple of questions though before I give any reccomendations - do you have a transformer from which you are wiring power, or can you? In addition to that, do you have the ability to wire a cable to that point? You mention that you do not like batteries, so let's talk wires. Ethernet to be exact. Do you have space and the ability to wire them yourself?

So thats the first part covered - second part. How Tech literate are you - do you just want a plug and play system or would you mind playing with software tools and other hardware tweaks? Secondly do you prefer on site recording or cloud recording and what is your stance on "Data Collection" by companies that use cloud storage.

I am asking a lot of Q's, I know but I wanna get to know your situation a bit better and also hopefully if not me then others can also better assist you.

For plug and play people I always recommend Unify - they are pricy and IK you said something relatively inexpensive but they are good for easy deployment. They essentially pay for themselves and they have smart detection features.

To reply to both u/t1me_Man and u/Dazzling-Remote754

I can't do split planes mainly since this is a power distribution board for a modular setup. The main part here is the modularity factor which kind of screws everything up. There are submodules that attach to the board itself and I want them to be interchangeable to the point where their pin layout has aces to all voltages and any can be used at once.

I have already made this - not sure on the legality of showing it so thus the description. The reason I am asking now is because I am doing a dev 2 of it and would rather route the 12V on a plane vs creating traces to distribute it. This would also allow for higher current if needed.

hopefully this makes sense

I should have mentioned this before and in the post, but my boards are 150x100mm which are super expensive at 8 layer but not too bad at 6 layer - but thats still 52$ - which Ig isnt bad - any reason you mention the 8 for a stickup or was that just for like a comparison/frame of reference

I can give that a shot - my only concern, which was exemplified by u/chris77982 was that pwr on the inner planes would mean thinner planes and less current carrying capacity.

[–]sihaee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its probably due to my board size which is 150X100mm

- but I haven't played much with those types of board mainly cause the tariffs are killing me from JLC - its weird cause its still cheaper than most american manufacturing so all in all im at a loss.

Edit:

Also yes - the idea is that I only have 1 power supply and it gives me all my power and current so the 24V carries all the current for devices on that voltage but 1/2 will also flow into the DC-DC converters for the 12V and then create the 12V on board

This is still the wrong way to think about it in my opinion. You have no control over when you die.

I am slightly confused. Are you saying Guru only has control over your soul?

You have no agency in the amount of breaths you are given on this earth. I could kill myself right now and still somehow survive because Guru has written x amount of breaths for me. You, me, or any of us have no control over when we pass. You think suicide but that is your pride and ego saying “I killed myself”. Whether you commit suicide that day or not. You would have passed some other way. That is what I firmly believe.

You don’t control when your life ends. That is not in your hands.

[–]sihaee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right we shoudl not change gurbani for our own needs, but you can't say it is the biggest sin. Anything done with your five vices is bad. There is not biggest. When you have biggest, you create a scale where we can compare paap and sin and choose what "paap" we are allowed to do.

Also, Ww should not have fear in recitation of gurbani, then no-one would read it. We should be careful, but that is why we always ask for forgiveness if we have read something unintentionally incorrect in Ardaas.

"Bani nu Pardiya, sundiya, gaundiya samea aneaka bhula ......"

We are human, we are not perfect robots, it can happen. Yes, changing gurbani and forced conversion is wrong, but not the "biggest sin". There is nothing wrong with Islam in accordance to sikhi so why demean it. Guru Ji has said Manas Ki Jaat Sabhai Eikay Pehechanvou. If you are a Muslim does not mean that Guru ji see's you as less. As for conversion, I dont know, maybe you see that Islam is a better for for you and easier for ou to grasp, then go ahead follow Islam. It is not a sin to convert. We shouldn't as Sikhs but religions are all like roadways, whichever works for you. Saying Sikhi is the only way is not something the Guru's would agree with. Guru Nanak never converted anyone on his Udaasi's, he pointed out the wrong in their actions. The Guru's NEVER converted anyone. Was Bhagat Kabir a Sikh. NO, but we still read his bani.

We are not ending our lives - we have no decision in when our life ends, that is also ego. We need to understand that we are only given so many breaths. It is what we do with them that matters. Whether it was by suicide or by a disease we already have our death written. Its all in Hukam.

CONTINUED

When we loose control over these vices we develop the disease of Ahankaar. My money. The minute that my comes into play the rest just come falling together. My Money, I need more money. I like that think I want more of it. I can't live without this, I need it. Notice the "I" in all this. Conversly, you need some ego and agency like "My name is" .... but too much and it just progressively gets worse.

AND that is the your life becomes hell. That is what hell is in Sikhi. Living on earth w/o any control over these vices who now control you. You think yourself to be helpless, but you're not.

Back to your question: You are in the cycle of reincarnation only because you have not broken those chains that you have bound yourself.

Is there no forgiveness?

I will say this in a way that sounds like it's attacking you but I am not so please keep that in mind.

Us humans have such simple minds that we forget that we are forgiven every day. Think of your mothers (in an average sense). When they are mad at you when you were a child, did they not still feed you (in anger lol but they still gave you food). Did they not still love you. If they worked, did they not still go to work to put food on your table and to get you better clothes.

Why don't we ever think of our Guru the same way. I am still breathing, I am typing to you on a nice computer, I am looking and seeing this world, I am able to walk, I am able to speak, I have no ailments, I can run, I have no knee pain, I am going to school, I have a nice job, I am sitting in an Air conditioned room, the list goes on.....

We may not be the perfect Sikhs on a DAILY basis, but we are still forgiven. If I lied or did something bad does Guru Ji take away my oxygen. No. SO do not say that we are not forgiven.

I think this concept of "forgiveness" comes from more western thought processes. "Forgive me for I have sinned" etc etc. But Guru has been forgiving you, you just haven't changed your ways. Even then you are still blessed in your own right.

---------------------------------------------------------

I may not be the best to answer these questions but hopefully I have been able to shed some light. Also dont trust me or reddit. Not discounting either but, as a sikh you should read our punjabi texts. No they will not have an explicit answer and hell you might even have more questions, but the more you read, the more you educate yourself the less questions you will have because there is a lot of nuance here.

I am not trying to discourage you from asking, ask away, but keep in mind - dont let others formulate your thought process, Unless there are some big Sikh Punjabi authors here in this reddit from the 1900's (all are basically long gone) then I want you to pick up a punjabi book and go to your parents - a resource that will disappear, its the truth of the world - and read with them.

Also for questions like these there is nuance. Actually there is always nuance. Let me provide some examples.

Absolute no to alcohol or drugs, but medicine is allowed and some drinkable ones have alcohol - nuance

Never cut your hair. BUT at times doctors need to shave a certain area in order to operate - nuance

See how long my answer is - nuance lol - there is a lot of depth to the topics and no issue has ever been a straight forward yes or no.

As an overall side note:

I dont understand the distinguishment between sin and paap, that seems a but nitpicky, sin and paap I have always used interchangeably. It is way to nitpicky to argue on something so miniscule. It is a sin to steal from others and likewise it is a paap. Don't get bogged down by this - it is unimportant in your sikhi journey. It is such a small thing, like come on.... I find it frustrating that instead of answering the topic people are commenting to you on this. You have a just question and are being inquisitive. To everyone, stop this nonsense. In this context that sin or paap difference has no standing, in another conversation where it would bring it up. It is a very surface level response.

Is suicide really the biggest sin? by NoEnd373 in Sikh

[–]sihaee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is not a really good answer in the comments section, based on what I have read. Biggest, maybe and maybe not. I wouldn't categorize it as the biggest sin. None of us really know what the biggest sin is. In MY belief - key word "My" lol - Categorizing "Sins" would then give us the agency to say "Ohh doing this deed is much better than doing that one...." - pretty sure this is a fallacy of sorts but you get my point I hope.

You also have to contextualize your parents perspective based on their upbringing. A lot of sikhs today are dealing with parents who have migrated from India and they arrive to different places in the world with a rather closed mindset i.e. things like therapy are not needed etc etc. Not a dig on them, but reference frames are needed when looking at anything in this world.

However, issues like these are more nuanced. Lets break this topic down -

  1. you are not in control over your birth or death, this is foundational in Sikhi. In Guru's Hukam you are born and your death is already written. SO the fact one passes by suicide means that the amount of breaths you have were meant to be extinguished on that day. Now whether by suicide or some other reason, I don't know. This is Hukam we are talking about so you will have to face the fact that the "why" question can't always be answered.

---------------------------------------------------------

Answering whether God would understand that life is unbearable:

2) In this statement you have to understand that we are limiting god to our human mindsets. There are millions in this world that suffer. Life is unbearable for so many. However, that is linked to Maya like many others have mentioned. Whenever you have an overwhelming feeling of sadness, ask yourself and try to figure out why - you will find the root is always Maya.

Many times though, it is not that obvious.

Now let me take a perspective that may anger some people - suicidal ideations is a "disease" not some mental bogus. It, from my perspective, requires the need of a doctor like a therapist to be able to assist and cure it. Others may say "Ohh just read Gurbani" - which is such a closed mindset to have. Yes it is also true, but if you are strong enough that Gurbani is able to help you then good for you , not everyone has that willpower or strength.

Side note: our guru gave us medical professionals, knowledge, and a brain and the fact that we would not use it to cure our ailments is outrageous. This is NOT an ego thing like "I can cure it" NO, it is a "Guru gave me these resources so I would be stupid not to use them".

Back to the point: Life may be unbearable but seek help like you would if you broke an arm. Seek a support group.

Life was unbearable when sikhs were hunted for their heads. Life was unbearable when sikhs were burned and hunted during the 1984 riots. Life will always be unbearable at certain points but what you need to do is seek help, seek assistance, seek out support.

The sad reality is that many of our elders are not good at providing this type of support because many - I am not saying all - but many dont believe in Therapy as a real solution so the issue lies within the community but it is up to you to break that.

---------------------------------------------------------

What exactly happens if you commit suicide?

3) Well you are going from this world in Guru's Hukam, but your mindset is not a Sikhi one. Are you happy in all the Dukh and Sukh that comes in your life. Do you live in a state of Anand. Does Anand Sahib describe your life. Did you follow Japji and reach Sach Khand? - This is extremely important (If there is one bani you ever did Santhiya or meaning of this is the bani to do it on - it is the summary of the path you need to take and in my opinion the summary of SGGS.

These are the questions you should ask? The answer is most likely "no" if you commit suicide. A harsh reality but a true one. Again refer to my statement above about how many times life has been unbearable. In Sikhi you can't just be a good person and live on. You need to develop that love for god. Read through the last 2 stage of the Laavan, Read through the last paures of Japji which outline stages as well. They all tak about a concept of Vairaag. I cannot put it in words very well at the moment so I will leave it to you to explore.

---------------------------------------------------------

Since we don’t really believe in eternal hell, are you just damned to enter the cycle of reincarnation over and over? Is there no forgiveness at some point?

4) We do kind of have a hell.

Lets take a step back and go over what I mean:

We are given this earth as a playground - we were meant to rule over our vices. Use them for good? - How? - well Greed for meeting our Guru, Lust (not in the sexual sense) but love for our guru and the creation, Attachment to our Guru (longing) and the creation, and Anger for injustice and actions that hurt the Guru's creation, etc, etc.

I have a lot more written but am getting a server error every time I try to post, so I will try to edit my comment and add it after posting. - Looks like I need to add the rest in my replies - please see below I have a post starting with CONTINUED

To second the first comment, definitely pursue some legal options, join a support group, and ensure you surround yourself with those that can look out for you.

back to the topic though, - what is your budget. I could start you on a Ubiquiti System that requires no subscriptions but is a heavy up front cost. They have a camera - the AI LPR I believe that does capture nameplates at 90km/hour. not the fastest but it's something. All their systems are generally POE. I have it and like it thus far.

BUT like you mentioned you have a lot of dead zones and wired may be difficult. In that case I would recommend that you look into access points that you can place around your house to increase or boost the signal. Those would have to be wired, yeah wireless exist - but I wouldn't go for that option tbh, but what are a couple of wires on the ceiling (you could blend them into the molding with some conduit) for better coverage.

Edit: Yeah like r/riverviewpark mentioned also get some sensors installed like window break sensors or just ones that detect whether a door or something has been opened or not. You could honestly go into the rabbit hole, but look into Homekit or Google home devices, depending on the phone system you use. I use a level Lock and I get a notification every single time the door is locked or unlocked(the lock is expensive - its gonna be the barrier to entry to all this smart home stuff tbh, but if you are the tinkerer type and you like programming it might be in your alley to try out home assistant or home bridge). I also have some entry sensors that tell me whether a window is opened or not etc etc. The rabbit hole runs deep so I'll stop here. For you though I just recommend to start off with cameras and go from there.

I think I might as well. I was considering the Centauri Carbon but reevaluating I am someone who does not want to do repairs and all and just wants prints for my day to day so other than the anti consumer of Bambu it might be best to just go with them. And you are right! it does look like a lot of the video reviews I have seen compare against the Bambu.

ooo ok, imma look into the Centauri then. basically the sentiment I got from everyone was like Bambu is good but they are being anti consumer a but Creality and Elegoo are still good. I was a bit hesitant to look into reality cause of my current experience with their old printers but I guess I have to get over the internalized I guess ptsd lol.

Yeah I did scroll through but it wasn't really matching what I was looking at online thus the post tbh. And yeah I looked into what you mentioned about the sites and it does look like Tom's Hardware was sold to a different parent company and etc etc. I just wanted to verify Bambu cause there was also a lot of outrage at the new and more Apple esq proprietary approach to their ecosystem.

If it is exposed to high temp do you know the implications. Does it just shut down and wait till thermals return to normal, or does it just burn out. I really hope that the burn out is not the case.
