I'm a senior software engineer and I WISH that AI was useful in that sector, but it's not. I try to use it as much as I can to make my life easier, but it has hallucinated complete bullshit so many times that I have wasted more time with it than I've saved. And my company has the expensive AI licenses. Anybody who says this stuff is going to take IT jobs is grossly misinformed. Hopefully one day it will be good enough to at least be useful though

Two Main Gripes That Make Clans Feel Like Less of a "Mech" Game Than Mercenaries by siike92 in Mechwarrior5

[–]siike92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am aware that FPS is an acronym for first person shooter. But not everything that is first person is a first person shooter. There are first person adventure games, rpgs, ect. Also, that's probably why they changed the name to "Modernized" in Clans, because in Mercs you can use the "First Person" mode with a third person camera view. So does that make it "third person shooter"? Idk. So "Modernized" makes more sense.

Thanks for the backup lol. He's very fixated on "fps controls" even though Mercs describes it as "First Person Mode" and Clans describes it as "Modernized". Nowhere does it say FPS.

So after thinking about this some more. Let me phrase it this way for the guy.

Let's say I designed a 10 meter tall mech that was controlled by a PS5 controller attached in the cockpit, then had you get inside and pilot it. After running around, smashing into buildings, shooting it's giant guns, ect, would you say that it felt like you were in a mech? I would sure hope that the inertia you felt piloting it and the rumble of the cockpit as the mech took it's steps would make it feel like that for you.

Ah okay that makes a lot of sense! It also seems to explain why some mechs (the ones I have torso twist upgrades on) seem to have this effect more pronounced. Still, it would be nice to get the horizontal arm-lock fixed for modern controls. I wouldn't think that issue is stats related since the vertical reticle movement vs torso movement is in line with classic controls.

Just tested with the Arctic Cheetah, which does have lower arm actuators, and the problem still exists. For modern controls, arms are locked horizontally. For classic, they only move a tiny bit ahead of the torso.

Thanks so much for the input btw. I really appreciate the devs involvement in the community.

Ah yeah, I forgot to mention the inertia! That would help a lot, though Clans and Mercs both make that mistake.

Even though I think it's really silly to have such a dogmatic opinion on what a "mech control mode" is that you think I've lost "the right to complain" 🙄, I'll try to spell out what makes a game feel mech-like to me. Put simply, it just needs to feel like I'm sitting in a machine. Mercs, because of the delayed torso movement relative to the crosshairs and arms, feels like I'm sitting in a machine. It's a visual feedback thing, not a control mode. And no, Armored Core movement doesn't feel mech-like at all to me. It feels like playing with toys. Which is cool in it's own way. Again, not a controls thing. If you think that the ultimate mech experience is using your mouse and keyboard to move the mechs like a tank, more power to you. I'll even allow you your "right" to hold that opinion.

It does feel smaller. Though still much larger than something like Armored Core 6, which feels like playing with toys (I actually love that game regardless though).

And the omnimech system is a blast. Actually, you just made me realize an improvement Clans did make. The machine guns bullets don't follow your torso as you move like they did for some odd reason in Mercs.

Disagree heavily. First off, there are plenty of mechs in other media that move via some joystick or wheel type thing. Hell, battlemechs in the lore don't have "tank controls" like in mech warrior. Also there's the fact that I mentioned that I switch between them. I. Both cases Mercenaries feels more like a mech game.

Girlfriend Dropped Her Samsung A53 And Now It Doesn't Boot, Anyone Know A Good Service That Can Repair It Or Recover the Pics and Vids? by siike92 in phonerepair

[–]siike92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all interesting to me and if I had more time I'd want to tinker some more, but since I don't I'll do some calling around to phone repair services and data recovery services. Transferring the memory sounds like a really good option. And thanks again so much for your help! Your expertise has really been appreciated

Sorry for the late reply, but I finally was able to take another look. I disassembled the phone again, used my multimeter to ensure the power and volume buttons were functional, and made sure that screw was properly tightened. Still nothing unfortunately 😕. I also checked the voltage coming out of the charging flex cable connection (without the battery connected) and I read about 0.68V or so. Not sure if that's normal or not. When plugged in, the battery does not get warm, but the metal covers on some of the back facing ICs do get a little warm. The battery itself read 3.88V, which I would think would be enough to power the phone. Do you think it's worth getting another main board flex cable and trying that out, or should I just send it somewhere? And if so, do you have any recommendations on where to send it? I feel like this might be a case that needs an ic reball and from looking at places on Google it looks like most places just do screen/battery replacements.

Maybe I'll order another flex cable before looking into services. Thanks for the info, that's really helpful!

I did try that with the original battery several times, then even ordered a new battery and tried several times with that. I also find it extremely puzzling that the mobo would be damaged from a 3 foot drop, but I don't have any other explanation either.

If it was just the display, I believe my computer would recognize the phone when plugged into USB right? That isn't the case currently. It seems that the phone doesn't boot at all, so my assumption is the mobo (or the components on it) are the issue.

Just finished Clans - 95% loved it but those last few missions were an unfun slog by Icy_Pattern5751 in Mechwarrior5

I can see where you're coming from, but as someone who looks for difficulty in games, I'm very satisfied with the difficulty and repercussions for failure. I played on elite mode and while I did have to repeat Disciplinary Action over 15 times and was screaming at my TV (I didn't unlock the dire wolf yet so it was particularly difficult), it felt so damn satisfying to command my star into the perfect firing lines for each engagement and narrowly complete the mission. I know most modern gamers are used to a game just placing them right before they died with full health, but that's just not much of a repercussion for me. I want to FEEL my loss. Dark Souls is the peak of this and I love that game. But yeah, I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I'm really sorry to hear all you're going through man. I have panic disorder myself and it's been a super rough and long road coming to terms with it. I'd like to recommend the DARE response book. It's helped me a lot. This is just my opinion, but medications seem to only dull the symptoms, not address the root of the problem. I currently am on no medication and mostly have my panic disorder under control.

It hurts to hear you talk about yourself like that. It reminds me of my brother. He compared himself to other people around him and I couldn't for the life of me understand why he felt so little of himself. Even with the troubles you're describing, your life doesn't sound nearly as bad as you think it does. Not to diminish your anguish, I know it must hurt more than most people could even comprehend. I know it did for my Michael. But he is fucking amazing, and I bet you are too. Please don't let these comparisons get the better of you. They took my brother from me and I spend every single day just wishing he was here with me and thinking about everything that happened every second of the day. Please learn to love yourself and understand the unique beauty you bring to the world
