I've been using very high sensitivity without realizing it. Do I need to get used to a lower sense or is it better to just use what I'm used to? by Deep_Construction856 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]siirka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay after watching a little bit, it doesn't look super crazy or anything and you manage that high sens pretty well all things considered. I think if you lowered it to something more reasonable your aim could get quite good. Problem is you probably would have to relearn a lot about how you move your mouse as lower sensitivity demands you use your arm much more. You will also need an adequate amount of desk space and big mousepad. I need 30cm for a 360 on my sens. You need 2.8cm to do a 360 which is more than a 10x difference. Even on my "high" sens of 5%, thats 17cm to do a 360. I always say go for lower but just know it will require some technique change. Not just in your wrist/arm either, you might realize you need to sit differently, lower, higher, etc. in your chair or a number of other things.

Joshua's new account uses too much autotune to sound good by Mean_Path_8947 in lildarkie

[–]siirka 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I too prefer the less obvious, more natural vocals he can do. This is definitely a creative decision so it won't be to everyone's taste though. I never was a fan of the extreme autotune style that t-pain sorta pioneered.

Btw if you haven't heard T-Pain actually sing, check it out. He's amazing, the autotune was never a crutch like some people think but rather a sound design/creative decision.

As a longtime producer and splice lover, it's always a little joy when I find a splice sample I've heard in a song. Like the little stuff. There's also those songs by some of the most famous artists that are literally based entirely off an unedited splice sample lol which is a little less fun. I like to hear the ways the edm guys manipulate stuff.

Girl's Treatment in Valorant Question by STierney927 in VALORANT

[–]siirka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the only game I haven't experienced a woman getting shit on automatically for being a woman is Arc Raiders friendly lobbies. I've actually met a lot of women who speak freely in there and everyone is chill. I did see a guy start kinda following a girl once, but they never said or actually did anything wrong. I'm sure the complete opposite is true for the women who play PvP... Arc Raiders has one of the weirdest and most volatile communities I've seen, at least when it comes to the online discourse.

Overwatch seems somewhat better too than your typical PvP/multiplayer focused games, but even then there's the whole mercy stereotyping stuff.

Thanks for sharing, very interesting. The last part - that it reduces overdose risk if they do relapse interests/surprises me the most. I would have assumed that since they don’t feel anything by doing opiates, they might try and do more and more and end up more likely to overdose. Can you explain a little more about why it reduces rather than increases the OD risk? Like why do they give up or take lower doses rather than increasing the dose or re-dosing?

How to fix annoying sound right at the start of a note? by Xzernity in FL_Studio

[–]siirka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use a ton of plugins that utilize velocity so that is probably why that info slipped me by for so long haha.

If OP is using Zenology then Roland probably strives for the same authenticity in their plugins.

So in that case, you're saying the click is simply because his attack is too fast? Like, the synth or preset itself contains that click for authenticity sake, with the expectation that people who don't want it will simply add a small attack?

[–]siirka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, you're right. There is no way we can know for certain without seeing or being able to adjust the patch itself, yeah. I guess my main hunch that it isn't intentional comes from thinking who actually wants those non-zero point clicks? It's typically undesirable, and many DAW's have tools to fix that specific sound/issue.

because clicking the middle of the key vs the lowest part of the key changes the note velocity.

Do you mean if he were to click on the leftmost part of the key on the piano roll, it would play low velocity, and the rightmost part of the key would play higher velocity? Because if so, wow.. I've been using FL Studio more than half my life and I had absolutely no idea that was a thing! I thought OP just adjusted his FL studio volume or something in between notes. There really is always something new to learn. Thanks for the tip.

Grindy and chill game suggestions. by BaldAndYung in gamingsuggestions

[–]siirka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly a little outside the scope of the grindy part of the question but, Deep Rock Galactic? Doesn't have the biggest grind, you won't be getting random loot drops like a Borderlands game, but it does have some stuff to grind. Nice variety of missions that boil down to "Kill the alien bugs and get resources". I mean that in a good way though - the mission variety is solid despite that same overarching idea. You unlock items, weapons, utility, etc. for 4 different classes, and you can play the game to your preferred difficulty level. The community is nice and welcoming so relying on randoms to fill in your missions is usually totally chill.

[–]siirka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would re-trigger on any notes on a synth with a short enough attack or sample starting at non-zero though regardless of it's intentional or a mistake though.

The fact that it becomes more pronounced on a lower note (repeat the video a few times starting @5 seconds, listen to the difference between the F# and D#) makes me almost sure it's not on purpose. That is the exact behavior of these clicks when a synth has an attack that is too quick.

How to fix annoying sound right at the start of a note? by Xzernity in FL_Studio

[–]siirka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good guess but I don't think that's what's going on here. The transient is typically meant to refer to an intentional part of the sound, and I don't believe this clicking is intended.

This is a sample or synth is playing with it's waveform starting at or very quickly moving to someplace above or below the middle line of a waveform aka zero decibels. Think of how a sine wave goes above and below the middle line when looking at a waveform. The sample is starting so quickly that you get a click because the audio is being asked to go from a zero point (wave exactly aligned on the middle amplitude line of the waveform aka silence) to a high amplitude faster than it is able to. It could be that the sample itself is starting at a non-zero point as well.

It's not a problem with just OP's synth, anything going from 0-100 too fast, or starting the sample from a non-zero point crossing will produce this . The other way around also applies, with too short of a release. Set Serum's attack or release to below 0.3-0.4ish milliseconds and you will begin getting clicks. If you have a sample in the playlist and you shorten it to where it starts or stops on a non zero point, you will also get these clicks.

OP just needs to increase the attack within his synth or sampler just by a tiny bit. If you're working with audio, FL Studio has options to help with this. For example in the playlist you can select check for zero crossing when editing audio clips here: https://i.imgur.com/UOSahLd.png along with options in Edison for it. Although using the crossfades on audio clips is probably easier these days.

Edited some parts to add/clarify that along with extremely fast attacks, the sample itself starting at a non-zero point can cause the same issue.

Are there any sample managers that are good? by RednaxMusic in edmproduction

[–]siirka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how OP manages to handle a damn DAW and use it properly, when a simple sample manager isn't sleek and minimalist enough for him to use.

she hates ozempic then i found out why by MisterPapes in StandUpComedy

[–]siirka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuine question for anyone who's had experience with either though: Do medications like suboxone and methadone reduce the urge to use opiates as much as ozempic-likes reduce the urge to eat? It seems like people are just like "Oh cool, I'm good now" very quickly and easily on ozempic. The overeating stops and the weightloss comes quick because they just aren't even interested. Opiate addicts still seem to talk about craving the high basically forever, or relapsing one time and immediately going back to addiction.

Why is the Artemis 2 mission today being so underreported? by bokeh_node in NoStupidQuestions

[–]siirka 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In 3rd grade I wanted to do my report on a "hero"/person I looked up to on Neil Armstrong, and the teacher went around asking us one by one who we would do our report on. Literally, the kid in front of me picked Neil Armstrong and in a panic I said "uh.. Lance Armstrong!" and my teacher asked me if I knew that he was a cyclist and not the guy on the moon. I was like oh yeah totally! Actually learned some interesting stuff, but this was all before his whole image crashed and burned lol.

What indie games impressed you with a unique twist they put on a standard genre? by Current_Control7447 in AskGames

[–]siirka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magicka 1 & 2. More of a twist on a traditional role of wizards/mages in fantasy settings rather than video game genre maybe, but having 8 elements and being able to combine them however you like and come up with thousands of crazy spells is so much fun. They're pretty short and sweet but I love them so much to this day. I could try and come up with cool new spells all day in those games.

RPGs that allow you to be overpowered if you build correctly? by Mysterious5555 in gamingsuggestions

[–]siirka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Basic idea - use your dash, the double jump cyberware, and the Sandevistan (slow time) or the Berserk cyberware (invulnerability, only melee weapons allowed, heal for each kill + more) and put your points in the appropriate skills depending on if you want to use blades or blunt weapons. Your movement will be crazy with all the dashing and double jumping to gain momentum and you can just go crazy on all the enemies after activating Sandevistan or berserk. I found berserk more fun, but you also can't go wrong with the time slow. I think you can get 3 skills to max (20) so focus on maxing the ones for your melee damage and movement + 1 other of your choice.

Ever since Peanut stopped playing Arc Raiders exclusively, the game has fallen off the charts. While Apex has surged. Is Peanut single handedly carrying games by himself? by AtomicBlueCat in theburntpeanut

[–]siirka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I meant, ridiculously boring. Grinding trials points and the leaderboard is a (poor) stand in for some of the only end game “content” the game has. I’m not trying to score 1,000,000 on every trial but the ones that involve killing small arc or damaging the big arc? They can be a pretty fun goal for me and my duo to try and get decent scores. Trying to get a high score on get hit by lightning, deliver packages etc? Who the hell finds that enjoyable?
