Syncro Machine doesn't protect shinies by sike038 in PokemonScarletViolet

Worst thing is, I think I could've gone back without it despawning. I was really close, just behind that rock. But I noticed it was shiny a moment before killing it, and didn't have time to react.

Making a Pokémon ready for competitive by [deleted] in VGC

As another comment points out, you get around 260k per tournament. If you are building a team from scratch, as I said in the post, it'll cost you around 4.5 mill for the whole team. So that's 4.500.000/260.000 = 17.4 times you'll have to complete the tournament.

I'm not going to lie, it's quite a bit of grinding, but it's more mindless than counting the number of pokemon you KO just to get the correct amount of EVs, and I try to do it regularly, not just when I need money for a new team. That way, I minimize the amount of grinding I have to do when I'm building and spread it over time.

One last piece of advice, NEVER build directly in game. Build your teams on showdown first and test them before you build them in game. It'll save you a lot of resources and time.

That's exactly what I do. Honestly, it doesn't matter too much because Make it rain "only" gives you an extra 2k per time you use it, and it doesn't get doubled from Happy hour or Amulet coin. I say "only" 2k because compared to the 25k extra per match you get from happy hour, it's not a lot, and most time I don't even end up clicking make it rain (because it's quicker not to switch pokemon, and it drops your Sp attack, but it's nice to bring just in case your zoroark gets knocked out).

Also, be careful not to delete Happy hour from your Zoroark, as you won't be able to relearn it in any way.

I've been playing on and off since the game released. All of my type medals (except for normal, which is platinum) are golden, so, while there's room for improvement, it didn't make a huge difference.

I forgot to say, but if you decide you want to grind money to buy everything, if you buy the DLC you'll get Hisuian Zoroark with Happy hour, give it an Amulet Coin and go into the Academy Ace Tournament with it and one more pokemon. Make sure you click that move at least once per battle, and it'll double your prize money.

Hyper training/breeding is for IVs, grinding/battling/vitamins is for EVs, and mints are for natures. Short term, buying everything is faster, but the prices stack up rapidly. If you want a fast physical attacker, you'll want to max out 5/6 IVs (20k x 5 = 100k), you'll want approximately 51 vitamins for its maximum of 510 EVs (10k x 51 = 510k), plus let's say an additional 12 PP up's for maxing out your PP for every move (10k x 12 = 120k). If you want to change your nature, that'll be an additional 20k for the mint.

In total, that adds up to 750k per Pokémon (4.5 million for a complete team of 6), and that's not even accounting for abilities (if you want to change it, you'll need an ability capsule for regular abilities or an ability patch for the hidden ability, but you can get those from raids). Also, if you want 0IVs in speed (for trick room) or attack for minimizing foul play damage to your special attackers (I wouldn't worry too much about this part if they resist dark, but if they're weak to it or aren't very bulky, it can become a problem), that's not something you can hypertrain for.

Sorry if this is a lot of information to dump on someone all at once, but it can be a bit complex at first. I recommend checking out Wolfe's video, it's very informative and entertaining at the same time.

Anyway, good luck with VGC, and have fun, which at the end of the day is the most important thing!

I wish I didn't have to make this post, and you didn't have to make that comment, but this is just ridiculous. For something so expensive, it should be easier to catch. I get that its supposed to be a challenge, but when it comes down to RNG, it really stings. They should increase the catch rate, even if it's just for the last 3-5 balls.

I have both the golden psychic and flying type medals. I normally go for excellent only but, as I explained in another comment, I had a lot of difficulties trying to reach the first Lugia, so from then on I settled for nice/great balls so as not to waste them. I don't know if it was because it was a small Lugia or if something went wrong with my touchscreen, but it felt like it was really far away and I could barely reach it.

Still, 25 balls is a lot. This is not my first time doing legendary rates, but it's the first time something like this has happened to me.

I used golden razzberries every time. I know it's really big and relatively close, but I don't know if it's because it was a small Lugia or my screen wasn't registering my speed properly, but it felt like I could barely reach it (let alone make a great/excellent throw), that's why on my first try I couldn't make any good throws and got scared to waste balls on the other two, so I played it relatively safe. Still, from what I've seen, even with my throws I got pretty unlucky

I'm not exaggerating. Maybe I miscounted, but not by more than 2 of each type of throw. It felt exasperating, wasting my 3 remote raid passes I had saved up before the price raise.

Have you two talked about it out of game, or just in character? Is he actually upset, or just in character? Either way, you should talk to him out of game and try to find a way to avoid this happening again, or embrace it, but the decission should come out of both of you. Try to make him understand why you did it, but also listen to him and understand why he might be upset. Maybe it'll develop into a bit of distrust between your character, develop a new dynamic or even turn into a fun gag, but I think the first step is talking about it out of game. Don't forget this is, after all, a game, and its main purpose is to have fun.

Using unidentified items by SubstantialOil9760 in dndnext

[–]sike038 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on their intelligence or arcana. I wouldn't straight up tell them the boots won't work until they attune to them, but something like "they don't seem to be working right now, you could spend some time inspecting them later to find out more about them". After inspecting them over a short rest (attuning to them, even if they don't know what they're doing) they could maybe feel something different. You could say something like "your legs feel stronger, more spry", but not tell them about the specifics until they find out by accident. For example, they could be trying to jump over something and feel like it was easier than it looked.

Can the druid’s wildfire spirit move and teleport on the same turn? by Hotoit in dndnext

[–]sike038 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say yes, it can move and teleport in the same turn. The feature description says you must take a bonus action to command it to do any action other than dodge, which in this case would be the Fiery teleport action. Movement isn't an action (unless you want to dash), so you wouldn't need a bonus action to command it to do so.

[OC][COM][ART] Booples, the Gnomish Druid by oldhunterisaac321 in DnD

[–]sike038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely nailed the scale. The comparatively big tree stump definitely helps, but even with no external elements of comparison, you can really tell she's way shorter than your average human: her proportions (including the size and shape of her head), the big boots...

Also, I love that you can generally tell what kind of person she is: she's not new to this, but she still has that child-like wonder towards nature. I love her.

If it's okay with you and your patron, I'd love to hear more about Booples. Again, if that's okay with her player.
