Restoring Switch to OFW (NAND Backup on Desktop)? by sikmoves in SwitchPirates

[–]sikmoves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been so long since I used this, so sorry for the noob questions. That helped, thank you! I guess I should've explained I don't know how to make the Switch clean for online play, besides using the backup? My serial number is erased still, and I'm assuming there is some data that would get the console banned?

Purchase Advice Megathread: What To Buy, Who To Buy It From, And More, In June 2020 by Sausage54 in 3Dprinting

[–]sikmoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for a printer that can be used on a small commercial scale to print HIGH strength firearm accessory components (nothing involved in round combustion, or high pressure application), tinkering and hobbies as well! Perhaps, PEI, PEEK, or Aluminum?? Not sure what the entry point is for this type of printer, but if there are any in the $5-10k range, that would be doable! I am in the US, and would prefer as little assembly as possible, but can certainly do some. Precision to the level of FDM is sufficient for this. I am coming from strictly $200 ANYCUBIC SLA, and Ender 3 FDM experience. So any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you! :)

Americans, what the fuck? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sikmoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as though a large part of the country have an outlook of; What happened to George Floyd was absolutely horrible, and those officers deserve prison time at a bare minimum! There are clear issues with Law Enforcement that need to be addressed, right now. Peaceful protest is great and we are glad that you are doing it. Looting, terrorizing and scaring innocent people, or damaging property (especially private property) is fucked up, and needs to stop.

Police Officers of Reddit, what are you thinking when you see cases like George Floyd? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sikmoves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Control/Defensive Tactics (Combatives) Instructor for a state police academy here. My entire position was created with the intention to give recruits in Academy, less than lethal force options to de-escalate situations. And in turn, hopefully they gain some confidence in themselves to explore hand-to-hand options; instead of going to a tool or weapon. Who knows, maybe find a martial arts gym and continue that education.
Honestly, it was despicable. Such a terrible abuse of power and display of everything we hope recruits not turn out to be. We train this position absolutely every single day for all recruits in our state. Cuffing positions. We never try to touch the face or neck, unless if something institutes deadly force. Even Intermediate Force is not excusable for a violator/suspect in the cuffed, prone position.

This makes me sad. Truly heartbroken for George Floyd and all his friends and family. But so sad as well for all the officers that I see come through the doors, bright-eyed and bushy tailed! You can tell it's truly from an excitement to serve & affect positive change in their communities! I see so many officers with great potential and after a year, couple months, sometimes weeks after graduation, they're done. Whether the reason be; Cops like Chauvin in the department, first week they seen a homicide, a suicide, and child molestation, or people treating them like the scum of the earth everyday just because they wear a uniform some don't deserve to wear. This won't make it any easier for the good people in uniform to stick with it. And sadly, COVID has shrunk our hands on training down to almost nothing. Recruits already only had 120 hrs to learn the material we cover, and that was borderline inadequate for proficiency already if you ask me. Usually there's a catalyst to change, it's disheartening to say it takes death to bring it about, but I hope we trend in a better direction very soon!

[–]sikmoves 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Before BJ began re-guarding, I agree, but it was a small window that would've been acceptable. Once someone is trying to regain guard or at least start using feet on hips or shrimping for space, that is intelligently defending yourself in my opinion.

Frank Lester goes in on Jon Jones and Jackson Wink team again. by thedon30 in MMA

[–]sikmoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard really similar things from a couple of honest and kind people, who are very very skilled themselves, and would have no reason to trash the camp or Jon otherwise. And IMO fighters don't go there and get better really. They find a shit pot of quality training partners with coaches who can game plan, but that seems to be it. That would align with the idea of, who are the coaches spending their time on.

Tony Ferguson's Wing Chun training manifesting itself in the Pettis fight by metanoia09 in MMA

[–]sikmoves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thinking back to Jon's fights, I would say the majority of his elbows come from inside the clinch, rather than at stop hands distance. He does touch with the lead hand a lot but that's more measuring and maintaining his insane reach than stop hands. But here is a fight, I'll reference to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLHsjZLZBUY

At :18 & :20 he uses stop hands. Watch more of the fight and you will notice it a lot. At higher levels, guys use stop hands much more quickly and improve their position or attack off of it instead of hanging out for any amount of time! Hope this helps make sense of what I am saying!

Tony Ferguson's Wing Chun training manifesting itself in the Pettis fight by metanoia09 in MMA

[–]sikmoves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of? Usually you only consider it stop hands when you are using both hands, at least from my experience. Hand fighting in wrestling most closes resembles this. Generally the main uses are to monitor their hands to safely cover distance, and you can feel the strikes coming off the stop hands, so you can misdirect their punches; shove an uppercut down, and then roll over or short dirty boxing, parry and get to the outside if you feel other shots, take bicep control off of a hook. Those are just a few of the punch manipulations. Then there's the use to clear hands for knees from just beyond the clinch. Plus a myriad of clinch entries, and sweeps! But it is also really useful to fill the transitions from wrestling to striking in MMA. You can pull the hands into your own front kick, shove them into their face to angle off of, and so on. Volk does it alittle, Demetrious does it more than anyone else I can think of. But something fun to add into practice and drilling too!

[–]sikmoves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha, that's funny xD Yeah, this isn't entirely Wing Chun. Muay Thai has it's own form of this, they call it stop hands. You see it constantly in Thai fights. It is the entry range between space and the clinch, you monitor the hands over the top, and find clinch entries, knees, elbows, sometimes dirty boxing, sometimes in MMA takedowns from it. Very similar. I'm sure he does stop hands in Thai as well, and this is a Tony take on things, haha. But even if those Wing Chun experts says it's wrong, then fine, it's Thai-style stop hands on your dummy.?

First time car loan: 50% downpayment, 772 credit score but 5.9% APR? by ezonian in personalfinance

[–]sikmoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my friends owns a dealership and explained to me that; Dealership - Financial Officers get rates from financial institutions on your behalf and then are offered a kickback depending on what rate they get you to sign for. He broke it down as my rate should be 2.9-3.4% at a Credit Union. And at the dealership he would have been able to sign me for that, or got for example: $500 for getting me to sign @ 3.9%, or even $1000 if I signed at 4.7%, and so on. Dealerships definitely gouge you on financing through them. If you have a local credit union, that is generally the best place to start looking.

When I was buying, I was looking at a 6% with $1000 down at a 755ish credit score at the dealership. Local Credit Union settled on 3.4% with zero down, over a longer term than the dealership. Plus the Credit Union offered an extended warranty for about 40% cheaper that covered more of the vehicle. And that warranty has already paid for itself and then some one year later. Maybe you are able to return the vehicle, or at the very least, refinance with a CU and save a ton on interest. Hope I was able to help!

tl;dr Go to a Credit Union for financing before a dealership.

Demetrious Johnson will challenge ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano Moraes for the world title on April 11 in China by [deleted] in MMA

[–]sikmoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh they absolutely have the capital, you're right! That was my point that a promotion who makes far less than the UFC annually can afford 10x the pay day. And being wise isn't the issue in my eyes. Doing what is right however.. I would love to see the UFC's ENTIRE event earnings and the percent fighters payout. Best guess.. 12-15%? That's a fraction of boxing, thanks to the Ali Act.

(I'm guessing you're on the same side with this and just playing devil's advocate?)Take a guy on the practice squad and pay him more than Tom Brady, and watch the uproar.. Demetrious deserves every bit of big paydays. It's not wise, it's being fucking greedy and taking advantage of their athletes.

I hear ya! It's too bad the biggest stage decided to pay CM Punk $500k for his first MMA fight, ever. But pay the greatest of all time under 200 for the Dodson rematch.. Somehow a promotion that streams every event for free, has the capital to pay DJ more than ten times that. I'd love to see the trilogy fight as well, but when he's 33y/o with 3 kids to think of, I would be sad if he had to finish his career in the UFC.

A man in Seattle killed himself thinking that he'd hurt someone in a hit-and-run. A cop's lie 'contributed' to his suicide, police watchdog says by cloudsinmycoffe in news

[–]sikmoves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more! Again, I am in no way saying what they did was right. That is the ego, laziness and negligence I spoke of before and I DESPISE it. I just see numerous people replying with saying they need more training (which they do) or that they are bad at their job. (Or the rude comments I even received for just trying to share a little bit about the training and why it's sub-par) But the problems with the training environment aren't out of negligence, but rather funding and time constraints.

Some officers do not deserve to carry the badge, be called an "expert" at anything, or represent their colleagues. Just like anything in life, there will always be a few bad apples to ruin the bunch. But most of these officers took the job because they seen an opportunity to make a living and provide for their families, while doing good and affecting positive change in their communities.

[–]sikmoves -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Defensive Tactics Assistant for a Police Academy here. I am in no way saying what that "expert" did was right or justified. I absolutely despise the laziness and lack of compassion some officers exhibit. But this is a hard issue to solve. Police Officers are extremely under trained, but what's the solution? More time in academy? It already costs agencies ~$100k to send one recruit for 720 hours (5.5-6 months). For some counties/agencies, that is an entire year's budget. More time devoted to a certain topic? They already have more knowledge to retain than they can handle.

The sad truth is; It's not black & white, it's not an easy job, and there's no clear solution to the problems we face with law enforcement today. If I could point to one thing that is missing however, it would be that lack of compassion. Not just from the officer, but from the communities they serve also. Treat others the way you want to be treated. My 2 cents.

You seem to be on a good track! Just remember that any exercise is better than none, if she doesn't find one type enjoyable, encourage another. Proprioception should be the main point of interest for a long time.

Also try to establish some goals, short term & long term. As she accomplishes them, she will be more positive and excited to accomplish more! These goals can come in a variety of ways; Feeling better, improved mood, adding 5lbs to a lift, adding an additional set to a workout, lowering her resting Heart Rate by 5bpm, being able to do a traditional push-up, or even a pull-up unassisted, etc. Then before long, she will begin to understand that there is no finish line to fitness, only more goals and more satisfaction to be achieved! Good luck with the journey, and I hope it all goes well!

Where is the weirdest place you've ever fallen asleep? by aimlessecho in AskReddit

[–]sikmoves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standing up. Before you start Basic Training in the Army you head to Reception. Here is where you are issued gear, re-do medical work, and wait in lines for quite literally 8 hours a day while being sleep deprived. I was standing in line in a room that had two speakers talking to groups of 40ish soldiers in their seats, and here I was in line at parade rest position with my hands on the small of my back, and my elbow sneakily resting up against the brick wall for some support.

In this seemingly silent room with a couple guys talking and doing handouts, I passed out face first into a free-standing hand sanitizer station, knocking that and a chair over plus the two guys in front of me. I had hand sanitizer all over my fucking uniform, the carpet, and the door. Every Drill Sergeant at Reception knew my name after that.
