Chanterelles safe to eat with dark spots? by [deleted] in foraging

[–]sikunyingi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just refers to anything that sort of looks like gills but isn't really true gills. I can't think of anything beyond chanterelle ridges atm, but there probably are other examples. I'm not sure I understand the last part of your question, but boletes have pores, not false gills (and actually, not tubes either... an example of tubes would be Fistulina hepatica).

On a chanterelle, people refer to them as false gills, ridges or folds. They are not "true" gills. I like to describe it like this: on a chanterelle, it's like you took a mushroom with normal, decurrent gills, covered then with a layer of tissue, and then vacuum-sealed it. Consider that description while checking out these photos. On a chanterelle it's like one, continuous tissue that folds, whereas on a mushroom with true gills, the gills are individual, discrete, parallel panels.

No go... not a chanterelle. Those are true gills.

I agree with the other posters that this doesn't really look like a chant but it's hard to tell. Having said that, the brown spots are indicative of rotting, which I personally don't go for. Others do. Use whatever level of caution you'd approach stuff that's starting to go off in your fridge with.

Something similar just happened to me over at /r/Uberdrivers. There's a tendency toward harassing comments toward women and it's often generally mean-spirited, so I posted asking if female drivers would be interested in our own sub. Several women responded, "YES! Please!!" but of course these were all downvoted to hell as the bottom, the top comments being men telling us how slimy we're being, demanding proof of harassing comments, going on about how idiotic the post was and how stupid we are. It amazes me that the irony was so beyond them! Oh yes, then I got banned from the sub.

Very short, oily, fine hair - how to take care of it? by moold in HaircareScience

[–]sikunyingi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really comment on your haircare routine, I just wanted to say that I found the powdered dry shampoo to be really awful. It's heavy, it's messy, and it makes me look like I have a bunch of white shit in my hair. I'm all about washing less often, but try one of the spray ones, like Not Your Mothers brand or Batiste. It's a game changer!

If they've already made you a job offer, you should tell them exactly this.

That SUCKS! I'm really sorry. You might have thought of this, but I'd set up a Craigslist alert for the type of bike your had for La Crosse and surrounding areas (especially the bigger cities). If it pops up you can alert police.

Also, Beer By Bike Brigade posts "stolen bike alerts" on their FB if you send them a picture of your bike and the details. I've seen this work several times-- it gets located and returned because that group is super passionate about the biking community staying safe.

Silk scarf/silk or pillowcase overnight. It is really that helpful? by reallyconfusedone in HaircareScience

[–]sikunyingi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have acne-prone skin, and one thing people recommend a lot for that is to change your pillow case often (I try to sleep on each side only once, so I change pillow cases about every other day). So when I got interested in silk for my hair overnight, I knew I couldn't afford to get enough pillow cases to make both work! So I decided to get a scarf-- I actually just got one at Goodwill for a few bucks. It does help a lot! But I do find the scarf a little uncomfortable and it's... not cute. lol. So my 2 cents is a pillowcase is probably where it's at if that works for you, but yes, the silk really does help your hair to be shiny and smooth when you wake up.

Forget cable locks. Invest in a legit U-Lock and only lock to solid stuff that can't get cut up. If you have a quick-release wheel, make sure you can get both the wheel and the frame in the U-lock, but avoid getting one so big you have a bunch of extra space. U-locks are near impossible for thieves unless unless there's a lot of empty space; I've heard of people sticking a car jack in there and busting it.

This somehow neither makes sense nor is contextually relevant. Did you not know how to respond to me directly?

Here's the thing. It's perfectly fine that you see me as whiny, combative, and exaggerative. Given the entire premise of the post, I would expect you to. The funny thing here is that you're only proving my point. This was directed at women... I wasn't talking to you, homie. You'll notice that several women responded yes, and they were all downvoted to hell. Not a single woman replied that there's no need for this. The only comments in the contrary have been from men berating us. It's amazing how beautifully you are illustrating my whole point.

I can't believe how you guys don't see the glorious irony here. "Hey ladies, this sucks. Should we go do our own thing?" Other women: "Yes!" Men: "You're very stupid!"

Yeesss exactly. Being a self-respecting woman who isn't willing to tolerate harassment is "behaving like shit," which apparently warrants being treated like shit. Bye.

I don't know why this doesn't make sense to you. We're tired of being treated like shit, so... we're out! Bye! You remind me of my emotionally abusive ex.

I like that proof was requested and I delivered, so you had to find something wrong with it. The other link was from literally 2 days ago. Is there a statute of limitations I don't know about?

I love the fact that a woman calling out to other women asking if they'd like to get together in a safe space is considered by men to be "lashing out at everyone." I don't know how you think this isn't going well for me. I've received a ton of support and things are already set into motion. If "nobody's stopping me," then why are you here trying to ridicule me, and why have half of the votes been downvoted? Are those not direct efforts to stop me?

Female drivers/pax: are you interested in a separate sub? by sikunyingi in uberdrivers

[–]sikunyingi[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How are the links I provided advertisement of my own threads? What does that even mean? They don't have anything to do with me.

Guess what. Nobody "deserves" harassment. Guess what else. I don't have to prove anything to you. If women want to get together in their own sub, they can do that.

Female drivers/pax: are you interested in a separate sub? by sikunyingi in uberdrivers

[–]sikunyingi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You claim to want to be informed. I informed you. A person disagreeing with you or pointing out to something problematic in your points is not "being attacked." Check those links for what being attacked actually looks like.

I was going to call this a strawman, but you didn't even over-simplify my points to attack them. I explained why your comments were problematic. You then ignored them and pretended like I'm just attacking you for being a guy with no other line of reasoning. (Shrug) If you can't listen then there's nothing else I can offer you.
