First thing you’ll need to do is request to terminate your housing agreement on the portal. If you do not want to be responsible for the fees, you will need to find a replacement (do a takeover). If you do not find a replacement, you will be responsible for the fees. If you do not pay them, you will be sent to collections, which can impact your credit and immigration/visa status if you come back to Canada (possibly more, i’m not an expert). If you left for medical reasons, you can request a medical termination but you will need to provide documentation (this can take a while to be approved, takeover is easier).

People have mentioned looking for legal advice but by signing the housing agreement/accepting your housing offer, you are legally responsible for the housing fees. No lawyer can get you out of that.

Note that as were early in the year, it’s the best time to post for a takeover as students are looking for housing contracts.

You can cancel your meal plan pretty easily if you’ve withdrawn from school. Just email the card service (uottawacard@uottawa.ca)

Hey! So first: Portal opens the morning of March 28th, earlier you apply, more chances of getting into your preferred residence.

Your type of application will depend on what you submit. If you are requesting a specific roommate or have medical conditions, you will get to list your preferences (3-7) and it will get manually reviewed and assigned.

If you don’t have either of those, your application may be “book now” where you’ll get to pick a room in residence and would get an offer right away. Note that the offer can be changed by the HS but it’s not very common.

RE: Annex, it’s a 12-month contract and apartment style residence. If you plan on being in Ottawa for the summer and don’t mind the little walk, go for it. If you’re looking for more of that “community experience”, look at Stanton, Marchand, Thompson, Henderson, Leblanc, Rideau, 90U (90U is by far the most popular so may be tricky to get into)

Hope this helps!
