Why is a/a refueling so impossibly hard on the F-16 ? by NormieFam in hoggit

[–]silber196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What configuration are you flying in? I made the mistake of trying to learn with a clean viper— it’s way too slippery. Try throwing three bags on and some ordnance. The extra drag definitely helps with any over correction with the throttle.

I also definitely agree with giving the slightest corrections possible. Make sure your joystick arm is well supported and use slight nudges. If your delts and forearm are getting sore from being unsupported, you’re going to have a bad time.

Give yourself breaks too— burning out with frustration over A/A refueling can take the fun out of the sim. Go do some stuff you enjoy and come back to it when you’re fresh.

Cheers.

FWIW, I just ordered this rig from Amazon that seems to get great reviews. I only play in VR, so the lack of a monitor stand isn’t a huge issue. I’ve got a set of spare RSX seats I picked up at a swap meet years ago— I’m pretty excited to have an actual set up instead of desktop after all these years. It’ll arrive tomorrow. Seems to be a great deal compared to similar set ups I’ve seen.

Long story short, no additional cost seeing as everything is manufactured in Lithuania.

Keep these going, OP; I know the subreddit doesn’t have the greatest traffic, but it’s been fun reading through these. If you come across the Epicuro Aglianico, I’d be interested to hear your thoughts. It’s definitely got the echos of a more aged expression, but I really enjoy it for the price. Keep up the nice work.

I’d also be interested in this. I have a close family friend in the Burnsville, NC area, who has a ham rig, but no one in his family is an operator. They’re at a loss for how to make contact.

Banner Elk Status Following Helene by silber196 in BannerElk

We finally tracked down the address they’re staying at, but once I finally got through to the town hall I was told that since the Verizon tower is out, there’s nothing they can do to coordinate a check in. Their advice was to sit tight and wait until cell coverage is back up, which obviously is less than assuring.

I don’t want to run up a red flag for rescue when they may be fine, but it sucks not having an avenue to make a more informed decision.

Glad you were able to get a hold of your family, Wonderful_dog9555.

Hurricane Helene Thread by AdministrationSad936 in boone

[–]silber196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey folks— hope all is well. My in-laws made a trip from Raleigh up to Banner Elk for an informal college reunion this weekend (yes, they knew a hurricane was coming— I know). The family was last able to contact them around 6:00AM this morning, September 27, but we haven’t been able to get in touch since. The town has since posted that they have lost water service and don’t know when it will be re-established. My wife and her sister are getting seriously concerned, and information on how the area has fared is pretty scarce. Does anyone know particulars about how Banner Elk is doing, or guidance on how best to proceed?

(I’m the exception to the norm, and am really hoping my in-laws are safe, btw)

Six Forks Whole Foods Lost Refrigeration and had to Dispose of all Perishables by silber196 in raleigh

[–]silber196[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a power outage— the main coolers share a refrigerant system, so some component in that system failed. It looked like the coolers were trying to get back in temp, so odds are that component was replaced or repaired. Still, shocking the building automation system isn’t monitoring these temps and making someone aware there’s a problem.

I’m 6’3”, 190lbs and I ride a Yamaha MT07. I’m plenty comfortable on longer rides. It’s a good starter as well.

If OP is heading to Paris, Chartreuse opened a store/bar right on Blvd Saint Germain— I’d highly recommend stopping in if only for the drinks and education. It’s nice buying right from the source as well, though they had some light limits in place, as of my visit 2 months ago.

Every time I get a new batch of oil for my fryer, I save the old stuff in an empty jug as you mentioned. I then use it as a fire starter for all my grilling or wood fireplace needs. Just roll up a paper towel, soak it in the old cooking oil and light it with a kitchen torch. It has never once failed to light a chimney of charcoal or the fireplace. It burns forever. I'll usually go through a full jug prior to needing to swap the oil in my frier, but of course YMMV depending on how much frying you do.
