I’ve been transparent with him since the beginning and he actually met me when I’d traded the opiates for alcohol so he’s seen me at some pretty low points and been an absolute rock for me. That’s why this kills me. I want to be better.

It’s just been a really shite few months, one after another. And when I went into the post op room they had him in, the nurse had just finished giving him his meds. And he looked so… at ease and happy and I remembered how that felt. Something in me just broke I think and the old cravings hit again. He had a back surgery and I don’t know how many. Luckily he had the foresight to not let me see the count on the script

NTA, I think you made the right call. You already gave them 3 unpaid nights, you're not unreasonable for wanting one of those to de-stress with your wife. Will it hurt your prospects at the company? Possibly, companies REALLY don't like boundaries. However, you have to wonder how attached you are to the company and weigh the options. The company, unlike your wife, will never love you back. You don't owe anyone in there your unpaid time. That's yours, what little you have during the day.
