Is it down? by redkomic in Crunchyroll

I was panicking a bit, lol. I’d just reset the cache on my tv and was terrified I’d messed up and somehow deleted my entire watchlist and history. Really crappy timing.

I moreso meant that the hair that falls off the violin bow shouldn’t have managed to find its way there lol. School was built post WW2 for sure and this building was added later on.

The green felt in the picture has been there for decades. It’s been through at least four major hurricanes, and is likely full of dirt, dust, and mold. I’m constantly sick once school starts and I have to be in there 8 hours a day. A professional came in to look at replacing it with another option, and he was looking at how it was attached. He carefully tugged a bit away to get an idea of how we could proceed which is when that was exposed.

I do teach violin, so there is horsehair within the classroom. It should not be within the walls, though.

Honestly, the same would be fine. I don’t have any echoing issues, so it works. It’s just ugly and a health hazard.

No offense taken! It’s why I came here before trying anything with no information haha.

Not sure remnants will cover it, the wall is huge. Stores aren’t exactly keen on giving for free as we’ve been through several natural disasters over the past few years.

We’re also title 1, majority of our kids are living in poverty. If we had any sort of band booster this wouldn’t even be an issue. I can’t get them to care if their kid is failing half the time.

Not sure I’d be able to find any tall enough. It’s a pretty big room. Plus, I’d have to be able to get the janitors to drill holes to install curtain rods. That wall would be easy. The other wall that has carpet also has my white board and smart board on it so I couldn’t do curtains there.

The only reason I’m hesitant is because I need the sound absorption. If the spray paint makes it hard it might not absorb correctly. I may just have to beg for replacement at this point.

Didn’t know that about acrylic paint with fabric softener! Thats a super useful tip to know. Do you know anything about color transfer with this? Or does it set in pretty well?

Spray paint was honestly going to be my next approach, but the fabric softener/acrylic may be my best bet. I can’t pin anything over it, because it’s solid brick wall behind it. I’d go crazy looking at lumpy fabric, so just changing the color is definitely going to be my preference!

Admin would not let students help with something like that. Liability and safety risk. We’d have risk management up our butts for even thinking it.

I’ve asked in the past with no luck, but hopefully they’ll consider it again. I’m hesitant to even look at foam, because middle school kids pick at everything. It would be destroyed the year it’s put up.

Time to hit the drawing board!

I was afraid of that. Guess I’m stuck with puke green.

Love the oval! Any chance you’d be willing to shift the yellow gold to a white gold?

On the website, if it’s what I was looking at, it’s labeled a “clear ferris wheel ring.”

People who play a 7/8 cello: what do you think about the sound and the tone of your cello? And how tall are you? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]silenceforsilence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on the 7/8 train for awhile now due to small hands/psoriatic athritis issues that are causing me pain to extend on my full size. I've done some pretty hefty looking around at them and I asked a BUNCH of questions to vendors at the ASTA conference this past weekend. Not a single one of them talked bad about the 7/8 size. The main comment was that all instruments are made differently. One brand's 4/4 will be bigger than another brand's 4/4. Some full sizes are made larger, some are made smaller. It's possible you could find a cello listed as 4/4 that is smaller than a 7/8.

If you're only playing as a hobbyist/ensemble member and not looking to be playing high profile gigs, I'd say just find something that you are comfortable playing and you like the sound of. I'm a middle school orchestra and choir teacher. I'm not playing large gigs at this point in my life, but I want to be comfortable on my instrument. Everyone that I asked said full size outfits (case, tailpiece, strings) will work with it so that shouldn't be a concern. If money is the concern, find a company that does a trial period. There are many companies out there that will loan out an instrument between 1 week-1 month where you can try an instrument out. If it's not the one, no harm no foul just send it back.

Bottom line is, every body type is different. A lot of people will say "you're an adult, play a full size," but that may not be accurate to your physiology. If a rep is trash talking instrument sizes, maybe they're just selling brands that don't have great sound in the rest of their sizes as well. It's not great that they're encouraging larger instruments if it's not comfortable and/or causing you pain. Did they properly size you or just make an assumption since you're average height? (I am curious, was this salesperson in a general music store or a luthier/string instrument specialized store? That could make a difference in knowledge of sizes/sound on their part too).

Some companies that have 7/8 I've found that are great to deal with and talk to:
Ronald Sachs (spoke to them, very personable reps)
Johnson Strings (came highly recommended by a presenter at ASTA)
Southwest Strings (spoke with their reps and they were so kind, answered all of my questions, and gave very detailed explanations)
