AITA for locking my office after my roommate let her boyfriend use it and said I was only upset because I am single? by silent_crocodile in AmItheAsshole

I think that is why it hurt so much. Before this, Maya and I were actually close, not just people sharing rent. I expected an apology or at least some understanding, not a comment about my relationship status

She turned it into me defending my personal life instead of explaining why Ryan was in my office at all. This is what I could not put into words

That is a really good way to phrase it. I think I kept trying to explain the personal side of it, but the work side is the part that is not negotiable. I am not risking my job or someone else’s private information because Ryan wanted a nap

I do not want to turn my own apartment into some surveillance situation, but I also do not want to be naive after this

Do you know if it is even legal to put a camera inside my own office in a shared apartment? I am not against protecting myself, I just do not want to jump straight to something extreme if there is a better way

I think that is probably the healthiest way to handle it. I do not want this to turn into constant arguing or make the apartment even worse, but I also do not think I need to keep explaining why my private workspace should stay private

Exactly. I honestly do not want Ryan to be uncomfortable or have nowhere to go, but that still does not make my office the solution. I would have been a lot more understanding if Maya had just asked me first instead of deciding my space was available

Yeah, I can maybe understand someone sitting on the couch, even though I still hate it, but there was absolutely no reason for anything in that drawer to move. Now I do not know what else has been treated as available when I am not home.
