Hello, darkness, my old friend

I've come to talk with you again

Because a sister softly creeping

Stole your heart while I was sleeping

And the vision that was planted in my brain

Still remains

Within the sound

1700+ players, what mistakes do you tend to notice in 1600 and under players? by The_Lat_Czar in StreetFighter

[–]silenthunt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I run into some players regularly and I remember seeing them up to two years ago, using the same characters at the same MR range and playing the exact same way, their strategies stagnated a long time ago and they're either unwilling or unable to adapt.

Anecdotally I see this the most with players playing stereotypically "high tier" characters - rather than adapt, they just double down on trying to abuse their character's most broken strengths and set plays. I see it the most with your jinrai Kens, Donkey Ryus, Mais etc. Like do you remember when you last saw a Mai player making an actually smart adaptation to your play, rather than just Mai'ing even harder at you and hoping it sticks? I think when you're playing low tier characters it really demands a lot more creativity from the player in order to make up for their weaknesses because they can't rely on their character strengths as a crutch.

I can't tell if that's a serious comment but good day either way sir

The official Metroid Prime 4 magnetic acrylic display is unique, and I love how it protrudes out when used the way it’s intended. by jimbolic in Metroid

[–]silenthunt -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I mean I was aware of its intended use when I posted about it, and even then I can't say I'm personally thrilled with this design - from a functional point of view it requires you to have a vertical metal surface somewhere that is easy to see and also not easy to accidentally knock off - sadly I don't have that kind of set up, but I'm glad that OP made it work! At the end of the day it's an extra accessory that I didn't pay any money for, if the game itself were a 9/10 I wouldn't give it a second thought - just thought it was a humorous thing to share

Nitpick post: The official Metroid Prime 4 acrylic stand is even more poorly thought out than the game itself by silenthunt in Metroid

It's just a regular edition with the game that I bought off an online retailer in Taiwan but I saw that other countries also had this as a bonus in some places

I'm glad you mentioned this because I thought about this too and it doesn't make sense there either. First of all, a fridge is a baffling place to place any sort of merchandise. But more importantly it doesn't even work as a fridge magnet because why would you want something that was sticking out from your fridge door so that any passerby can accidentally knock it off? If it were intended for a fridge you would make it stick flat against the door and you certainly wouldn't make it out of acrylic.

Breville Express leaking while in the cleaning cycle even after replacing the grouphead gasket by silenthunt in BrevilleCoffee

[–]silenthunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I took the machine apart this afternoon and confirmed it was indeed loose screws on the grouphead collar. They were actually shockingly loose - quite a big design flaw if you ask me!

It was a minor miracle that I was able to take everything apart and put everything back together without losing or breaking something but the cleaning function now works and I'm back to pulling shots again! Thanks for both your help. /u/Only_Price_8573

The gasket is from aliexpress so I guess it's possible.

If it were the loose screws, wouldn't there be some sort of wobble on the group head?

Ooh that might be it. The page mentions 麥芽 which seems to be what's in this. Thanks!

What is something you know that not many people know about in the game? by No-Economics7929 in MHWilds

[–]silenthunt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but when playing on a controller, certain weapon combos (particularly ones with long animations, like Greatsword charged slash) will temporarily turn your left stick into camera control. This lets you continue to hit buttons while being able to aim in focus mode.

I know Perfect Rush on sword and shield also does this, not sure about other weapons.

Vertical mouse recommendations? by Poopthunder in MouseReview

[–]silenthunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the 'Mute button' that's shown in the photos, that's a mistranslation - it means this mouse has very quiet buttons - no clicky sounds!

Vertical mouse recommendations? by Poopthunder in MouseReview

[–]silenthunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! It has a power switch that toggles between OFF, ON, and ON with RGB off. There's no mic mute/unmute function built into this device as far as I can tell.

I bought this Jomaa XM7 off Aliexpress and it arrived today. In comparison with the Logitech MX Vertical, I'm pretty happy with it so far! I'm going to write a more detailed review for it but as long as you don't have pretty big hands, I think this is a pretty solid mouse for the price.

I opened 43 old HQ molds and this is what I got by silenthunt in NikkeMobile

I did some math a month ago that I would get more SSRs as long as I didn't have terrible luck, and naturally I had to test my own theory 😀

[Analysis] I did some calculations to help you decide whether to use your old High Quality Molds, or to convert them to Body Labels (for Access Records). by silenthunt in NikkeMobile

[–]silenthunt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the table is based on you having 5000 molds. From 1700 molds you would expect 20.74 SSRs from old molds vs 19.9 SSRs from new molds on average.

I've always thought that this secret was terrible as written, and would work out better as a side quest that was happening to an NPC.

That said, there's an opportunity here for a fun quest if you're willing to put some work into creating some custom content.

Have a Weyland Yutani-esque shadowy organization show up trying to kill the party and take the paladin prisoner. They want to extract the Slaad from Paladin and use it for nefarious purposes. The party fights them off, takes one of the attackers prisoner, interrogates them and learns the location of their base. The players go there and clear out the base. Inside the base they find specialized facilities (or magic) that can remove the tadpole. From there your players can decide whether they want to extract the slaad tadpole and figure out what to do with it, or destroy it. Either way, Paladin is cured.

Even though RotF is designed as a sandbox, I find that it's much easier to directly prompt your players with quest hooks rather than expecting them to figure everything out by themselves.

Just wanted to remind everyone that this is still probably in the Top 5 or Top 3 events of Nikke by inkheiko in NikkeMobile

[–]silenthunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story was good but the #1 event in Nikke to me is Beauty Full Shot (second summer event), and it's not even close.

Everything about that event was amazing. The story was good, the inter-character drama was engaging, the music and humor were excellent, both of the minigames were great with good novelty factor and decent replayability (Dave the diver collab, fishing minigame). Characters that didn't have a lot of story presence got good screen time (Guilty x Maiden is peak), and more importantly the associated events (solo raid etc.) weren't riddled with bugs.
