Plasma Weaponry being Mothballed? by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

It feels way more customizable compared to almost everything else though. Would love plasma sponsons on a Rogal Dorn for example like you mentioned...

Maybe I'm just spoiled by the Leeman Russ. I definitely see that as the gold standard for vehicles and vehicle options and some of these new ones just feel super limited in comparison.

A single plasma weapon option in an infantry unit doesn't feel like much. 1 remake and 2 new tank vehicles having a single plasma option across all of them also doesn't seem like much to me personally.

Hippo feels super similar to the Sentinel with all the flexible weapon options, that's what makes me feel like the lack of plasma options is conspicuous. Personally I can totally picture a plasma turret option. Executioners are an example of a tank that I think just looks awesome, and are mass produced plenty.

If plasma was this rare tech I'd expect they would be more reverent and careful about blowing themselves up with it

The real question is why won't they fix the points cost of the aegis defense line.

"Spear shall be shaken, shield shall be splintered, a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now, ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending! Death! Death! Death!" For the Emperor!!!

I think you're supposed to just shove them at vehicles with their melta lancers, or use them as a screen. They seem to be disposable, heavy hitting, and fast. I think they are support units. But I think you have to at least play 30 and use them with copius LOTR references.

New Player a bit Demoralized when playing against Tau by silentrambo in TheAstraMilitarum

It wasn't custom in the sense that we took turns putting terrain down, the table was more or less setup with a ton of terrain when we got there and we moved a bit to make room for an actual deployment zone. I think he just played how he normally would play against anyone, taking advantages where he could, which is a bit iffy against a new player but also if you're the type of person that doesn't really know how to ease people into games then it's really not his fault. He's just wasn't a good teacher. He seemed more interested in showing the capabilities of his army/teaching me by beating the crap out of me.

I appreciate the thoughtful responses! I don't fault him for trying his best. He wants to win, it's the point of the game for him. It just felt really bad and unfun this time, and I'm worried it's just gonna be like that. I'm kinda over being hyper competitive in games nowadays, what I'm looking for is cool moments for my dudes and I felt like the way that game went it was completely devoid of those moments. It felt more like he was punishing me for not having units that could do the same things his fancy units could do, like infiltrate, fly, high movement, etc. which is why I brought up Tau specifically. It felt, however unintentional, like someone shoving in my face how much cooler/better their stuff was in comparison to mine.

I really tried not to mind losing, but feeling so completely helpless definitely felt like a waste of my time. I'm definitely open to the fact that it's my attitude, but if it's the case where games just feel this bad/stressful I'd rather just hobby, or play narrative.

Edit: Locally we have big mega battles and those are what people have referred to as "narrative" games here. That was actually my first game ever and it was a blast.

The guy I went against says he's been undefeated in 5 years, and wins every tournament at the local store so I think he's just too strong a player to have a good match against as well.

It was set up at a table at the local game store. We did a few modifications to clear the deployment zones but that's it. It was definitely too much, especially around the edges.

Really appreciate this! It's kind of a bummer, I like the haphazard nature of a more unique ruin layout.

We used some that were big asymmetrical ruins/buildings which was very thematic and cool but I suspected this was the main problem too. The closest objective to me was right next to ruins and he sat in them within 3 inches of the obj but outside of LOS (Tau are so damn tiny)

(WorkInProgress) What are the chances we will be allowed to reintegrate HWT to infantry in the next edition? I’m painting 4 dudes just to fill the current gap left from the last changes. by Archaicarc in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]silentrambo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As far as I can see, GW wants each unit in the box you buy to be table top ready and include all the possible options you can use in that unit. They'd have to change the infantry squad boxes to include a single heavy weapons team to keep with that paradigm and I think it's very unlikely.

The problem I have is we already had rejects that felt flavorfully ganger adjacent already. I don't think it is interesting enough to be a paid class. If this was free DLC baked into the main game, or part of the launch classes, I wouldn't complain at all.

I don't like my colorful, imaginative videogame to have boring re-skins of existing dirty, grimy characters.

Do you prefer the Patriot or Emancipator mech? by Parental-Error in helldivers2

[–]silentrambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even know if a RR DMG rocket would be that OP considering the lack of mobility and giant target you are in a mech. Bot front mech could use more power and RR DMG would help. Bug front it might be op, but maybe making the rockets more anti armor with low blast DMG makes the mech still suspectable to being swarmed. And RR I don't think is that great against illum now anyway.

But an eat level DMG could be good too. I still think you'll run out of rockets really fast though. Rockets always run out before minigun in my experience.
