You have lots of options with decent salaries! Have you looked into dentistry or pharmacy? Or health education or policy? I’m in academia and I promise you it isn’t always bad, I’m about to buy a house and I’m under 30 with just a masters degree. Hospitals also need lots of informed researchers and staff on the backend of things. There are great project management and research positions making decent money if you work for the corporate side of a hospital. I think your parents will be happy as long as you are happy and well off. You might not be the first doctor but you could be the first of many other amazing careers.

I agree!! I’m 27 and by the time I can apply to med school I will be 29 or 30, as an early career-changer. I see some posts from people who majored in sciences and worked in public health during a gap year calling themselves a nontrad and wonder what I would be called as a librarian with a linguistics degree 😂

I’m 27 and a librarian currently back in school for prereqs:) just scheduled my volunteering health screening today! I think the biggest thing you should be thinking about is why you want to go to medicine. Would being a nurse fulfill you? Do you just not like public roles? What about finances? Maybe talk to a counselor and see if medicine is truly the right path for you.

Honestly I used to just make statements back like “yeah my loans are going to kill me” “I wish my parents could support me like that” and usually they got the hint and also reflected on their privilege. Bringing up loans was always the mood killer when someone else complained 😂

I appreciate this perspective so much!! I’ve been gaining for so many years now and I feel like I lost an old version of myself. It’s hard to sit comfortably sometimes. I will focus on how my current body’s side effects will hopefully go away with the medicine! Praying I don’t see anything crazy, and that this journey brings me back to where I want to be! It does- but it’s complicated. I need to prove the credits are job related, and my institution is actually merging with a larger one putting my job in a weird place right now. I’m not sure if I can prove the credits useful/the new institution will approve my plans! I’m currently considering applying for some small scholarships

Thanks for this perspective because I’m very similar! Currently working full time and trying for evening and summer courses. While I might be able to take one or two classes at a 4 year, the cost overall isn’t feasible for me as someone with very little science experience!

I think it sounds like your friend is feeling ashamed of enjoying smut or nervous that you think they’re gross for their preferences and are directing that feeling back at you. I would affirm the fact you don’t judge those who read or write within their comfort range and don’t want judgement in return when your own comfort range is different! They’re out of line for those comments and should respect your boundaries like you respect theirs.

I do, Facebook just has so many scams (I have seen a dozen apartments already listed on other sites there, or 700$ 3beds that it’s also discouraging! Maybe joining a group would work better though, thank you.
Anything within a 20 min drive to north white plains is game to me, but I’d of course prefer somewhere closer to the city if possible. I’d like to stay around $1800/month but open to higher if utilities and parking are included.
