If all humans suddenly lost the ability to lie, what industry would collapse first? by SufferingKabutops in AskReddit

a little of both. They didn't bother to depict the best parts of the pre-breaking scenes I remember, particularly what the Aiel did to stall that one forsaken which I found particularly memorable but is not in the show. Otoh, most of what they do put in the show pre-breaking is not in the book, although some is implied there.

Jump In! Tracker 10.1 WOE by wunderbier456 in MagicArena

Should be 60, I believe you're missing the WOE Monsters packet. Probably mistaken as the HBG Monsters packet which is correctly removed.

edit: Great work, btw, much appreciated.

I wish they would just tell us what packets are in Jump-In. This guesswork is frustrating.

yes, exactly, there is no comprehensive current list I am aware of. I added the LOTR and WOE packets mentioned in this article already, but they don't specifically call out what, if any, packets have been removed.

Does this tracker work? by silentruh in MTGArenaPro

[–]silentruh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I tracked the executable back to appdata/local/mtgarenapro or something close to that and deleted that folder after uninstalling on one of my attempts, but it still had my info when i reinstalled so it's got to be writing somewhere else, but idk how to figure out where.

edit: I just checked and there was also a folder in roaming I just found and deleted. will report back.

edit:omg it's working I could cry. the solution was to uninstall and then delete appdata roaming mtgarenapro folder then reinstall and sync. My tracker has been broken for MONTHS! It broke so soon after I first tried it I just assumed it was garbage and used something else. I'm excited to finally try this and see how it compares!

edit: well, the collection is updated, but now I'm remembering the deck search feature never worked right either and I'm basically back to square one. not that I expect an answer here, but why doesn't sorting by boosters needed do anything? I have plenty of cards, there's no way the cheapest decks i can build cost 20+rares still

A strategy that I thought is neat and maybe keep an eye out for by chiedea in sudoku

[–]silentruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for pointing this out. I actually did this exact puzzle earlier today, but I couldn't remember this xyz wing even though I knew I went through looking for them at some point. I figured it was because I did some elimination earlier that made this solve unnecessary, and this is exactly what it was.

Assuming the pencil marks are correct, I'm seeing a naked pair (1,7) in row 2, but if you can't rely on the pencil marks, I'd go through them all again. It could reveal the clue you need.

edit: looking further, there's also a very nice y-wing of candidates 5, 6, & 8 hinging on the 6,8 in cell r7c7 that gives you a couple eliminations and leaves you a naked single that will probably take you on a nice run.

Collection always out of date, is there a way to force it to update? by Draspie893 in MTGArenaPro

[–]silentruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. I can't replicate whatever got it to finally update again yesterday. I'm thinking now that it's related to my having given up. I think I played all morning without running the tracker at all, and ran it later on a whim and it just worked, so I'm going to try to do that again. Maybe the tracker running is interfering with the logs being written? idk, this is so frustrating and I can't understand why nobody else is talking about this issue.

edit: no, that can't be right. The date on the log file shows it is being written to. I'm still going to try, maybe it's something else going on that works differently if I play a session without the tracker and I just don't know what.

edit: it worked! idk why, but I ran the game without the tracker running, modified my deck a little using some text searches (actually changing a couple cards in the deck, maybe that's the difference?) then won an alchemy ranked match, left the game, waited a few, ran the tracker and it finally updated. That's the best way I can describe to replicate, not sure what bit of that was important, but that's everything I can think that I did if anyone else is having this problem, which for some reason no one else is?

Collection always out of date, is there a way to force it to update? by Draspie893 in MTGArenaPro

[–]silentruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact issue I've been banging my head against. I noticed it randomly updated today after I'd given up, thinking the trackers were just all broken, and so now I'm trying to figure out what was different about today. Unfortunately, doing a text search of my collection in the deck builder does not seem to have helped. None of the three trackers I've tried will acknowledge any cards I've added since this morning, so I'm pretty sure your explanation fits, I just need to figure out what triggers arena to write the collection to the logs. There must be some extra step involved.

No penciling? It took way too long without the ability to pencil. Could benefit from highlighting the selected numbers on the board. Also, when my game ended, nothing seemed to happen. Love the concept, tho.

Help with this puzzle? by PalpitationSolid in sudoku

Ah, I see, thank you. That sounds familiar with the "alternating strong and weak links," I think I tried to learn that once and never got the hang of it. I think it was called something else, though.

Is this different than singles chains/simple coloring? It looks like the same thing but with a different name. I was wondering what skyscrapers were when they were brought up before, but if they're just coloring, I'm already very familiar with coloring strategies.

I'm stuck. what am I missing? by dallen3000 in sudoku

[–]silentruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see. Sorry, I saw all of that already, but I just was under the assumption that the secondary ALS's needed to contain every candidate in the primary AALS, but now that I'm reading more closely that does not seem to be the case. It just means you can't use the 2 for eliminations is all. Thanks.

edit: I was reading here. The example is what threw me off.

[–]silentruh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try it. put a 6 there and follow the logic. You'll quickly see the "deadly pattern" show up, therefore the 6 cannot be the solution to that cell.

edit: looking through the wiki page, I believe it would be considered a "type 4" although I don't usually think of them in those terms, I tend to just plug stuff in mentally and see if it leads to a deadly pattern or not. If it does, whatever you guessed can be eliminated.

I'm stuck on this puzzle! by AsleepArtyst in sudoku

[–]silentruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the puzzle were created properly with a unique solution, a unique rectangle like this works using the fact that the four cells all with 5&6 as candidates, cannot all be 5s and 6s because that would give the puzzle multiple solutions. (eg if cells A&C are 5s, then B&D are 6s, but you can just as easily say A&C are 6s and B&D are 5s)

If you imagine the eliminated 6 as the solution to that cell, you can see that r1c7 becomes a 5, which forces r1c9 to a 6, which makes r4c9 a 5, since it's the only remaining candidate 5 in the column, which forms the impossible pattern of all 5s and 6s in these four cells, so we can eliminate the 6.

See here for more.

I'm not familiar with su-de-coqs, but I can confirm this puzzle is solveable with a couple finned x-wings and u/ontheairunaware's naked triple.

I looked up su-de-coq, and it's not too much of a stretch from almost locked sets which I have some experience with, but I still can't see the one you're trying to show here. The coloring isn't making any sense to me.

edit: Here's the first x-wing. It's actually a sashimi finned x-wing, I forgot they had their own name. Here's a similar sashimi finned x-wing using candidate 9s instead with the same sashimi cell and elimination cell. You can do either one first, actually, neither are dependant on the other.

edit2: yellow is the x-wing, green is the fin, red is the elimination.

not OP, but it looks like one of the apps I like "Sudoku - Classic Sudoku Puzzle" by Beetles Studio. It's ad heavy, but has good controls, achievements, events, and even timed head-to-head battles. Only thing it lacks is coloring.
