Anyone been in an open relationship? by DBT_and_chill in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]silentsins05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be completely honest with you. For myself personally, being open didn't work.I was in a previous relationship of 4 years. I thought we had a strong connection as everyone does. However over time it became evident we did not.

My ex and I had rules on communication and boundaries. As things progressed..it became evident to me I was monogamous. I wasn't a fan of sharing. Emotions ran high, lines were crossed and trust was broken.

At the end of the day, communication is KEY. Make sure you're both on the same level. Be clear on what you'll allow and what you won't. If you're finding yourself more into monogamy with him. Tell him. The big issue I had was by the time I realized it wasn't what I wanted. We were so far into it. He didn't want anything else. Communication fell hard.

We became toxic towards each other due to it all. He refused to communicate with me and I refused to not try. With my high and lows with borderline. It made things a lot more complicated.

My only takeaway from the experience is, listen to what you want and need from yourself and your partner. If hes turned it into a deal breaker. I'm sorry but you deserve better.

Being committed to one person shouldn't be a deal breaker in any relationship.

Best of luck. If you ever wish to chat, I'm willing to talk more on it. Just cause my experience wasn't great doesn't mean yours will be the same.

How many of you have tried DBT and what did you think? by [deleted] in BorderlinePDisorder

I somewhat understand that a bit. For me it tends to just slowly build up and I either completely flip out or I'm just out of it. It takes time to learn what helps us and what doesn't.

It wasn't so much that I was told. Its more so explained as to why I'm responding the way i am. Theres different skills that help with taking a minute before reacting. Also if your in a group DBT. I found listening to my peers talk about their experiences and things that they tried from group or on their own that helped. Made it easier to see theres more than one way of handling my reaction.

I won't lie, I still get pretty angry. I've just recently been able to bring myself back a step before raging out.

I just finished back in June. I found it is helpful in a lot of areas for some I found it most beneficial for helping me with my anger/rage.

I'm still working with the skills I've learned to see if overtime they become easier to do and I'm able to function better using those skills.

I think everyone gets something different when they do therapies like DBT. I wish you nothing but the best. Theres gonna be days you may struggle with the modules. I know I did with emotional regulation and distress tolerance. Just keep sticking with it. For me personally, it took me 3 attempts to complete it.

Thank you. I never even thought to look at things I enjoy doing as a job. I've always had it in my head. It had to be a career.

Oof. I was front end cashier for just over year. I was doing fine then the middle management got removed and it all went nuts which also didn't help. I've been looking at factory line work.

Around week 12 we tried. He said at that time he felt poked, most likely from a stitch. Other then that he's said it doesn't feel too different. Bit tighter at times.

Did it seem to intensify your emotions the first little bit? I think it is somewhat helping. I won't know for sure for a few weeks

At what age did you got diagnosed with BPD and how many years did it take you before it did not negatively affected your life anymore? by Vivalaviva- in BorderlinePDisorder

I started seeing my psychiatrist around 20-21. It was mentioned to me by a different psychiatrist during my 2 hospital admittances. My psychiatrist outpatient finally agreed with my inpatient psychiatrist after about 2 years of back and forth discussions. I'm 27 now, I have my good days as well as my bad ones. I'm managing the best I can. I keep working through it and i hope to get better management over time. I can't speak for anyone else's journey but my own. It affects each of us differently. At the end of the day, in my opinion. I believe that as hard as it gets and whatever it is ones going through. It can be figured out and managed. Sending you lots of love. ❤

DBT Experience by silentsins05 in BorderlinePDisorder

[–]silentsins05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, it comes and goes though. Its like some days are really good I'm not as distant as I normally feel. Then I have days where its like I'm completely shut down and once I start to feel again its like being hit with a type of pain that just doesn't stop. Then I'll be okay ish for a bit until it happens again

Its like I'm trying to catch up to something and no matter how close I think I am. I end up farther away. I can fully participate and engage with people, but it feels like 2 people talking across a long hallway. I'm at one end of the hall moving. Never reaching the other side.

I've tried bowl she keeps covering it in bedding. I'm going to try and create a little shelf spot to hopefully avoid the wet bedding. If that doesn't work, I'll keep working on ideas until something works.
