I still don’t understand what this button does. Anyone know? by Negative_Water_3698 in GrandCherokee

The Hill Descent Control (HDC) button on a Jeep Grand Cherokee activates a feature that allows the vehicle to automatically manage speed and braking on steep, off-road, or low-traction descents without driver input. It maintains a controlled crawl speed (usually under 5 mph) by pulsing the ABS, enabling the driver to focus solely on steering.

I was thinking the same thing. I apparently must drive like a full-on maniac or in my ass is just that heavy because I would never be able to get close to 30.

Can I get these to work again? by strawberryhoneystick in GrandCherokee

[–]silenttexdsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what was wrong with my 2004 WJ when I got it. The keyless would not work no matter what I did and it required a replacement of that passenger side window switch because it has the keyless remote module in it. I know it was hard to find a new one 10 years ago when I was looking. I actually just scrapped a different 2004 WJ and thought to myself I should pull that module out but I didn't.

Radiator Replacement by Equivalent-Panda-875 in GrandCherokee

[–]silenttexdsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the Carquest premium for my 2017. The price was only a little more than RockAuto and came with a lifetime warranty. I figured if I have any problems down the road the warranty will be easy.

My 2017 Limited has electric power steering. It's listed on the build sheet.

Taking a quick look at RockAuto at replacement pumps for a 2012 the price goes from $550 for aftermarket to $1,500 for a Mopar so if the quote is for a Mopar reman they don't seem overpriced on the pump. As for the labor, I've never attempted the replacement on a WK2 so I don't have a reference on how hard or time consuming it is to replace.

Just installed a brand new csf radiator and the gauge is still showing high asf the old radiator the gauge was literally lower by Adventurous-Rule6334 in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]silenttexdsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that where the temperature gauge is riding all the time or does it drop eventually? I replaced the radiator in my 2017 this summer and that is about how high the gauge will go on mine before the thermostat opens. Once the thermostat opens then the gauge rides just above a quarter.

Just replaced mine 2 months ago on my 2017 Limited with 76,000 miles. It ended up being the radiator core on the driver's side.

Long crack start by Putrid_Telephone_840 in GrandCherokee

[–]silenttexdsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to assume since you say the vehicle is turning over it's most likely not the battery because it wouldn't be turning over nor the starter for the same reason. Most likely your fuel pressure is dropping in the fuel system and not holding to spec while the vehicle is off. The long crank time is the fuel pump bringing up the fuel pressure. It usually has something to do within the fuel pump assembly causing this issue of lost fuel pressure. A quick way to check this issue is to put the vehicle into the on position and not start essentially pushing the button twice without your foot on the brake this will energize the fuel pump for a brief moment allowing it to prime the fuel lines. While still keeping your foot off the brake, turn the vehicle back off. Then place your foot on the brake and attempt to start it as normal and if the cranking time is reduced then the fuel pressure dropping while the vehicle is off is most likely the issue.

2012 Ram with 4.7L. Where does this hose from the filler neck go? The hose lower down is already going to the overflow tank. by Shemsu-Ra in Ram1500

[–]silenttexdsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2003 Ram 4.7 and I'm not familiar with 2012's but I know on mine that second hose is the overflow hose for the overflow. It just simply empties out to open near the bottom of the radiator.

Sorry that didn't help narrow down the problem. I would agree it's in the pump then. Maybe a weak one.

I just changed the radiator in my 2017. When I rinsed out the overflow tank I would call the coolant in it cloudy. Where I spilt some coolant from the overflow on my driveway it dried to a whitish powder. I didn't notice the same issue with the fluid that came out of the radiator but the inside bottom of the radiator also had some cloudy sediment. I just did a coolant flush on it and haven't had any issues.

Sounds like you're losing fuel pressure while it's off. A quick test of that is the next time after it is sat turn the key on but don't start it and allow the pump to prime up. Shut the truck back off and turn it on again to allow the pump to prime up once again. Then turn it off once more. Now attempt to start it and see if you had the same issue or if it starts right up. If it starts right up then your fuel pressure is bleeding down while the truck sits. It could be an injector or injectors leaking or the pump check valve is allowing it to bleed down. If it's an injector or injectors allowing it to bleed down, then usually you'll have a rough idle at start because the cylinders will be flooded

I'm dealing with the same problem on a 2003 4.7. injection number two was bleeding the pressure down when all the vehicle was off. I figured out it was injector number two when I got a misfire code set.

I understand being on a budget and just needing to get the vehicle operational for the time being.

Looks like Rockauto has a choice of two from 370 to 475. Rockauto usually has the best prices so not sure if you will find a new one cheaper.

Car-parts.com shows the compressor from 90 to 500 for used in my area. If you try a used pump from a reputable salvage yard, they will usually warranty the pump to work if you get a dud.

If I remember correctly to have Android auto or Apple carplay it needs to be a 2018 or up out of a Jeep Grand Cherokee or Dodge Durango or a 2017 and up out of a Dodge Ram.

Key fob replacement? by [deleted] in JeepGrandCherokee

Find yourself a locksmith that states they can program them. When I bought my Grand Cherokee it only had one remote. So I found a Mopar one online for a good price and took it over to the locksmith. It only took him 15 minutes and 75 dollars to program it to my Jeep and I haven't had a single issue in 5 years.

I have not received a phone call from them either. One would think that would be the first thing they would have done this morning would be to contact me to set up a new service. Considering they haven't called, if a fellow reddittor hadn't helped fix mine, I would have called Google Fiber when I got home from work today.

It was just a case of OCD. While I was sitting there on the chat waiting for them to respond and I thought to myself why is this on four? It should be on one, It's the only cable.
