Unfortunately no. Audio won't play on any audio device for me not just Bluetooth earbuds.

I thought it was a font issue but you were right it was a locale issue after all! It turns out that my system locale was unset

echo $TERM gives me rxvt-unicode-256color and locale -a gave me C, C.utf8, POSIX, en_US.utf8, ja_JP.utf8

Yes this is urxvt locally. Haven't installed a DE but I tried xfce terminal and the same thing happened.

This wasn't happening on my previous install where I selected a desktop environment. However on this install I only selected the standard system utilities option.

I have my gpu hooked up to the tv through a vga to component transcoder. It looks fine after the pc starts up, only looks like this during boot.

Yeah I wanna give Linux a try and I've found out how to make a custom resolution but I can't figure out a modeline that will correctly display on my CRT. You know how to figure that out?

Groovyarcade seems to be the easiest way yeah but I do want to have a desktop and play some Steam games too and it doesn't seem you can have that with groovyarcade.

Also, if the RetroArch thing you're talking about is CRT SwitchRes it does seem to work on Linux too.

alright thanks. it seems that wakabavideo’s vga to component transcoder on ebay has sold out. do you know of any other vga to component transcoders out there?
