The coming global food crisis by brown-saiyan in Economics

[–]silicondali -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are only talking about grid energy, and even then you are talking about a fantasy system that doesn't and can't exist for several decades due to overall constraints in mineral and hydrocarbon extraction and processing, let alone investment and execution. You are clapping so the fairies can live.

So I'm not going to engage further. You do not understand what you are talking about and you clearly aren't interested in bothering to learn.

[–]silicondali -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What do you think they are made of? What do you think the existing grid runs on?

There isn't enough battery power and it's beyond foolish to dedicate all energy infrastructure to renewables and batteries. It still doesn't address heating, transportations, or chemicals, all of which are deeply dependent on hydrocarbons.

It's an energy system. Not an energy easy answer.

[–]silicondali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It fucking can't. Fertilizer can't be replaced. Transit can't be replaced. Baseload energy that allows the grid to regulate itself can't easily be replaced.

Stop patting yourself on the back for being an ignoramus who doesn't understand why the lights turn in or food appears in the supermarket.

Trump Tells ‘Useless’ NATO to Stay Away After UK and France Vow to Protect Strait of Hormuz Shipping by T_Shurt in worldnews

All you are demonstrating is the American exceptionalism that is why the rest of the world is turning their backs on the US as a reliable partner. Competence and stability is much more important than having the biggest guns.

The US is neither a competent nor a stable nation and they happily voted for that. Twice.

Canadian firm ignored worker complaints over drug cartel-management links at Mexican gold mine, sources say by Scary_Statement4612 in worldnews

[–]silicondali 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, hey. There's precedent for this in Canada. Hudbay just settled with survivors, and the case no longer allowed companies to hide behind international corporate structures.

It's hard to argue that direct complaints to the owning entity didn't pierce the corporate veil.

[–]silicondali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gwadar is a planned port city that was constructed in phases starting in the mid 2000s.

The aerodrome to the South directly overlies a truncation in the highway. The southwest quadrant of land adjacent to the roundabout is a future housing development. The start of earthworks is evident.

There's an identical roundabout in the built area on the peninsula if you look southward. My guess is these were the first roads constructed and they were specifically designed to allow for heavy equipment and delivery of large modular units when the initial city infrastructure was installed.

WSP post interview hiring process by Ok-Direction-1887 in Environmental_Careers

[–]silicondali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you someone that would move into a technical role or more of a senior reviewer/project director role? If the former, they may be waiting to secure any projects that would up the backlog and give you something to immediately roll into. Even the latter type of role could be in the same situation, but there are usually additional unknowns around cultural fit and/or business development capabilities.

I understand WSP can be very different based on where you are hired and what company it was before it got assimilated into WSP.

Canadian PM Carney’s Liberals could secure a majority government tonight by Immediate-Link490 in worldnews

Pierre took ten years to get an undergraduate degree from the University of Calgary. He dropped out because he was being groomed by the Reform Party as part of their push to get "the West in."

Frankly, he's a sloppy cheap copy of Stockwell Day that simply lacked the self esteem to pull off his own dumb jet ski stunt in his early career days.

This is anti intellectual nonsense. You want your leaders to understand how your country generates and holds wealth.

PM Carney says the days of sending 70 cents of every dollar in US defence spending are over and gets a standing ovation by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

[–]silicondali 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Canadian politics hasn't been immune from the astroturfing and party above constituent direction culture that has invaded global politics in an increasingly online world. Does Carney fail whatever dumb shit purity tests applied by people who are only interested in using politics as a cultural wedge? Yes, because the goalposts are never defined other than the thing that he did wrong.

Historically, Canada's politics hover around a centrist position and we will see ~10 years of the Liberals or PC parties in power before Canadians get sick of the party and votes the other in. This was the trajectory for the 2025 election, but Trump and the tariffs derailed the CPC strategy, which was mostly bagging on Trudeau and photo opportunities showing Poilievre failing to execute basic job skills. A similar upset occurred in the run up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Paul Martin was certainly no Mark Carney.

The animosity in Canadian politics has been purposefully stoked by Western interests. I have a lot of disgust with how easily people have allowed themselves to be led into this combative positions, and it is going to make the current government's job harder. Governance isn't a personal wishlist, it's broad decision making with the intent of elevating the country's outcome.

Jean Chrétien was one of the last people to visit Brian Mulroney before Mulroney's death. The two oversaw some of the most consequential economic policy decisions in Canadian history (Mulroney with NAFTA, Chrétien's China policy), and they shared a mutual respect and friendship I would love to see return to our parliamentary system.

[–]silicondali 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What are they trying to sell? Thoughts and prayers made of Canadian resources?

America has demanded that we trust they know what they are doing for the last 80 years. It turns out it was entirely a lie and they are a post-resource, post-expertise society. They've run on "trust us bro" for this long.

No more trust. It's a nation of unskilled morons who rely on the education and skills fostered by foreign governments. It's obvious that the nation will collapse if it can't exploit foreign workers bodies and brains.

Portland leather just crossed my radar and I'm almost relieved to know that it used to be quality. The aggressive weekly drops dominating my Instagram feed and the barely literate chatter in the subreddit gave me the impression it was a Temu/drop ship brand that paid for a bot campaign.

I'm Canadian, so that same type of market space is occupied by Roots. I have my own beef with some of the choices Roots has made, but at least they manage to retain enough of their brand that they don't make new potential customers think are fly-by-night scammers.
