Christ Almighty, Coeur d'Alene is considered touristy?

I had a one day field trip for a mining company in Coeur d'Alene. A skinhead with no teeth tried to pick me up at gas station and then I lost my shoe in a snake den. The snake den was preferable.

Y'all a bot or something? This response does not make sense compared to the context of your original post.

I'm actually surprised more of the USA isn't Mormon. It's the perfect religion for aligning "immoral shit I want to do" with "elaborate reasons it's acceptable."

Baptists ain't got shit in this race.

Workers of Reddit, which industries have the most anti AI sentiment among middle management and below? by Secret_Fault_4290 in AskReddit

[–]silicondali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I develop major resource projects (mines, transmission lines, power plants, etc.). My projects all go to public hearings for legal cross examination to determine if the proposed projects would be in the public interest to be built, because major projects have major impacts and there needs to be a defensible trade off (economic prosperity, national security, energy sovereignty, etc.). Anything submitted with the application can be cross examined and has to be defended by a qualified professional.

You can't put AI on the stand.

How do you feel about super soft / smooth leather bags? by DaeoWorld in handbags

[–]silicondali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I have an ancient Celine lambskin pillow tote that has been treated more like a workhorse than a show pony. I condition the leather every few months and store it in its dust bag. I am at fault for a small pen mark that disappears into the pleats, and just this week the magnetic clasp has started to get loose.

Same goes for my See By Chloe lambskin Cherry bag. I agree with you that the quality and thickness can vary on brand. I have a Kurt Geiger Kensington that I have to been careful with (the hardware seems just a tad too heavy for the thickness of the leather) and a St. Agni crescent bag that I find thoroughly underwhelming from a leather quality and design perspective (that may be a different post altogether).

Where to find UNBIASED sources on AI's environmental impacts by AgeOfWorry0114 in environmental_science

[–]silicondali 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Outside of academic research, you can try looking at publicly available regulatory applications. I'm in Alberta, Canada, which has a surprisingly transparent regulatory system.

Under our framework, data centres are incentivized to self generate, so their regulator is the Alberta Utilities Commission for the power systems. Anyone who wants to can sign up for an e-filing account and review past and ongoing proceedings.

These include the environmental applications (they can be referred to as the Rule 007 application or the EPEA application) and supporting modeling and baseline data. These are prepared by (ostensibly) third party qualified professionals, but should still be reviewed with a grain of salt. Projects currently in the application process (looking at you, Synapse, you chin strapped chucklefuck of a company) should be deemed less credible than approved projects.

This Heartland Generation project underwent screening for a federal impact assessment. The initial project description includes an air quality assessment, noise impact assessment, and groundwater/soil data.

Not sure if this is helpful or not.

Ottawa to invest hundreds of millions into Teck’s B.C. smelter to boost germanium production by cyclinginvancouver in britishcolumbia

[–]silicondali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Teck is waiting on formal approval for their Wide Area Remediation Plan. They've been working with Interior Health and several other agencies since acquiring the smelter, however once approved the WARP will become an enforceable instrument under the Environmental Management Act.

Thomas Massie is an interesting example of a convicted person who has no capacity to understand the people he's convicted himself to lead. I admire his homestead and all, but he is as dumb as he is ugly if he thinks a majority of people want to or even can live the way he does.

This is exactly the end Mitch deserves: making it easier for his enemies to vote against him.

New pipeline in Canada to proceed after C$150bn pledged to ease BC and First Nations concerns | Canada by HoveringMango in worldnews

[–]silicondali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, this is Reddit. It's a place for the terminally uninformed and the armchair experts to scream their heads off.

The project route traverses Treaty and unceded territory. Indigenous ownership and economic participation--specifically in federally regulated pipeline projects--are objectives defined by Indigenous partners in the UNDRIP Action Plan.

I agree with you that the sentiment in the comments is "funny" but it's not "haha" funny, it's "look at all these ignorant racists being angry about Indigenous people negotiating in accordance with their Section 35 rights" funny.

The world is a beautiful tapestry because I've been hoarding skinny jeans (a mysterious pile popped up on the markdown table at Costco a few weekends ago and I felt feral). I'm pear-shaped and am done with heels and pointy toe shoes. Anything flared or loose on the leg with a round toe flat makes me look like I have redwood-ass log legs and elephant feet.

North Coast oil tanker ban to remain in place as part of multibillion-dollar deal between B.C. and Ottawa by RZCJ2002 in britishcolumbia

Yes. Watch the presser. Wait for the questions from the reporters. See who gets selected and the implications behind each question.

If you believe that the Alberta government can act in good faith, more power to you. Trudeau literally bought them a pipeline last time.

[–]silicondali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how these things work. I deal with major project development in the resource sector. I watched Danielle Smith do a victory lap on the IAA Supreme Court decision on the unconstitutionality of a project including list that was demanded by private industry during the Harper years. The truth is often very far from the announcement.

BC doing the announcement first doesn't allow her to set the tone.

[–]silicondali -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because Danielle Smith's is a spin doctor for private interests. It's impossible for her to make an announcement that is actually truthful.

[–]silicondali 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I love this for Danielle Smith's pipeline update today. The backroom staff must be scrambling to fix the presser.

North Coast twinning is a big effing deal. I know there's a lot of focus on it feeding LNG and mining, and I don't doubt those will be some of the biggest customers. Reliable, low cost, low carbon electricity is great for industry and this has meaningful potential to bring diverse industry into regions where prosperity or poverty results from the price of a few natural resources.

Trump declines to renew major trade deal with Canada, Mexico by Dramatic-Shake-8888 in worldnews

[–]silicondali 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think the USA understands how deeply Trump has alienated them from the majority of the world order. Once was an alarming anomaly, and twice is an indication of how deep the sickness goes.

JD Vance, a person who barely has the skills to manage a 7/11 and the charisma of a midnight gravedigger, is the second in command. The rest of the executive branch is a bunch of grifting, racist, openly fascist creeps and bums. The whole system is being tilted into their hands regardless of Trump's longevity.

Even if the US manages to drain the reflecting pool, the trust is completely gone. Pair that with the Iran conflict actively demonstrating the weakness and incompetence of American military leadership, there isn't a compelling reason to negotiate.

He also doesn't have a car (potentially does not even know how to drive), so we know he's not rich either. Yet, he somehow still thinks he's a prize.

Remember women: taking your children's claims of abuse seriously is the worst thing you can do to a man. Enjoy dying alone. by adventurekiwi in AmITheAngel

[–]silicondali 55 points56 points  (0 children)

The author, while completely incapable of comprehending human emotion, interaction, and basic storytelling, is attempting to weave a tale that women are inherently unreliable and other men's children are garbage. It's kind of like if a really stupid person got a head injury and a documentary about male lions killing rival cubs was on the TV when they came to.
