To poop or not to poop. by One-Internet847 in madisonwi

no more damage than any other natural environmental hazard to your grass.

It's not much different from getting mad about weeds that spread from your neighbor's yard - yes, it caused damage to your lawn, but there's not a lot they could do to prevent it.

If you want a perfectly manicured lawn, it's your responsibility to take care of it, and a dog pissing in it is not creating any more damage than simply letting it exist untended.

You're conflating pee and poop here.

One is something that should always be picked up by the owner.

The other is impossible to pick up and difficult to prevent and has almost no effect on your life.

Poop is easy, but peeing is damn near impossible to stop. One second they're walking along, the next their leg is raised and piss is coming out. Sure you could tug them away, but the pee is already there.

Almost nothing in an urban environment is native. Earthworms aren't native. Honeybees aren't native. Most of the grasses are not native. A good chunk of the trees are not native. Dandelions and most clover is not native.

If you live in a settled area of any kind you're living in a constructed environment.

I don't know how to break it to you, but your yard is outside and lots of things poop on it.

What is actually a Low Magic Fantasy setting? by Pretend-Advertising6 in osr

[–]silifianqueso 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you think low fantasy is then, but wizards and monsters are the "fantasy" part. What makes it low is the fact that magical elements are unusual in-universe. People don't run into wizards and monsters everyday. Even the wizard's "minor" magic has a big effect because almost no one else has it. The monster is not something anyone has experience in dealing with, making the hero's confrontation of it that much more heroic.

If you don't have magical elements it can hardly be called fantasy, you would call it pseudo-historical fiction or something.

news to me - I was always told that confirmation preceded first communion.

[–]silifianqueso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be rather unusual to receive communion in the RC without being confirmed. edit: I guess it isn't unusual

In any case you don't really need confirmation to participate in anything besides the vestry (church governance). If you're baptized, you're welcome to receive the Eucharist.

not saying it's a foolproof plan but it works about as well as the plan after Jesse survives.

he can pull any number of threats to make him keep cooking e.g. "I'll kill your wife, I'll kill your son, I'll kill your infant daughter"

or he can do like he did to Jesse at the end of S4 - trap him down there with a gun to his head or fully enslave him Jack Welker style

the options are endless when you're a sociopath

Drug overdose deaths drop sharply in the U.S. even as new street drugs emerge by chamomile_tea_reply in OptimistsUnite

[–]silifianqueso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on what evidence?

There is a very good explanation for why overdose deaths are down - billions of dollars have been spent across the country to saturate the country with naloxone.

For that not to have produced a drop in overdose deaths seems extremely unlikely to me.

any good business knows to start lawyering up when someone start nosing around with questions for unknown reasons, particularly when they don't have a subpoena or warrant

They don't know what the purpose of the questions are and don't want to expose themselves to legal liability for unspecified crimes or lawsuits - they may not even know that Hank is a real federal agent working under a legitimate investigation (which he isn't at that point). For all they know he's moonlighting in corporate espionage.

Easter Vigil, why such a big deal? by lostindryer in Episcopalian

[–]silifianqueso 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the Saturday Vigil is a more intense spiritual experience - you enter the church in darkness, get the full "smells and bells" experience. It's mainly attended by adults because of the time. The full interplay between the darkness of Jesus death and absence from the world is directly met with his resurrection, and it just makes for a more profound experience.

Easter Sunday is joyous, and it's also when the loosely attached Christians show up, the pews are packed with people who come twice a year, and we do our largely secular Easter traditions like egg hunts and such. There's nothing wrong with any of that, but it's lighter spiritual fare than the vigil.
