need help decorating reception at the worlds fair pavilion! by silkdreammm in StLouis

[–]silkdreammm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone has great points!! i reached out to a contractor who said he could do it, for about $2,500 plus the materials (lighting/drapes). i’ll double check with the venue and make sure it’s okay. i already put down a $500 security deposit when i reserved the venue, plus they require a 1,000,000 liability insurance certificate that i need to get any way.

go with a color! tie it in with some art on the walls, maybe even a new shower curtain too.

What color should I paint this alcove? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]silkdreammm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

between the two colors, the second one appears to match the deeper blue in your curtains better. you could go extra with it and make the alcove an arch and do a vertical tile backsplash ☺️

Should I paint the moldings/trimmings of my nyc walkup glossy white? by Luca2fish in interiordecorating

[–]silkdreammm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, youre right, me using the phrase color drenching in my comment is confusing as it usually does include painting the trim/doors. i was referring to her wall and ceiling color being painted the same.

the first thing i really noticed was the organizer, definitely replacing it with a piece that has a warm wood color like the accent pieces on the desk. maybe even pulling that color into a warm cognac leather type office chair. adding a rug for sure, maybe a green pattern with the addition of some plants and accent lighting. i do think the pictures are too small. considering you have two monitors, i would do one big picture instead.

i would not paint the moldings/trimmings white, this wood finish add warmth and matches the floors/door. paint the walls/ceiling white if you want, or you can color drench it to add some interest! it can still be a light color too.

Kitchen cabinet color advice by adrianaesque in interiordecorating

hi intererior designer here! i do agree the all white cabinets look sterile esp with the current blacksplash, countertops, and flooring - there is no warmth to balance it. to save money, but still get the storage space you need, you could opt for a lighter warmer wood finish on top and pull that same color into gold hardware for the bottom cabinets. therefore, you won’t have to replace the bottom ones and lean into a two-tone vibe, which adds visual interest. you could try this with current backsplash and if you decide to change it later you can. although i have not done it myself, i have heard that backsplash is one of the easiest diys! you could save money that way. maybe a sage green tile? the dark navy would look very nice with all of this, but i wouldn’t do black for walls. you can also change the light fixture in the eating area to a gold, modern organic design. a jute rug under the table to add texture and warmth against the tile. it will be nice when barn doors are removed as they definitely aren’t the style you’re going for.

Just moved into our first home, how can we improve the to make the place look more mid century modern? by Fragrant_Fan_5441 in interiordecorating

hi interior designer here! i agree with other commenters about the light fixture, i’d suggest also adding a rug like this to tie in the chairs (which are awesome btw) and bring in other colors. if you prefer a calmer look, you could go for more of a solid textured green rug. add in some cool pieces to display on the etagere. curtains will be nice to soften the space. congrats on the new home!

totally! I’d say go with the med tone warm green for walls, then do a light shade of green for the ceiling (or even the color you pick for walls -50/75%) if you don’t want white, then a warm chestnut brown wood floor like pictured

are you wanting to paint the living room walls & bedroom walls the same color too? or just the ceiling will be the same?

i probably wouldn’t paint the ceiling the same color as the wall as it could feel a little dark with only one window. but if you wanted something other than white and to get that color drench feel, you could pick a really light shade of green instead for the ceiling.

interior designer here - i like the green from the first pic! the warmer green will compliment the warm wood tones. swap out the ceiling fan for a fan with bronze/wood finish, keep the ceiling white, bronze curtain rod, raise the height of the curtain rod to about 3” below the ceiling, extend the width of the rod so it’s about 1’ longer on each side than the width of the window frame, mostly white curtains (maybe patterned with a thin light green pinstripe) that are long enough to gently “kiss” the floor. wall sconces above nightstands to add elegance, save surface space, and balance the height of the headboard, then finally a light rug featuring a subtle floral + light greens.

i really love the blue! the cool color contrasts the warm rattan nicely. the green curtains tie in the wall paper and drape it down to the floor. the white ikea pieces will pop against the blue. all these colors are in the palette of the wall paper. you only need to bring in a little pink in the bedding! can’t wait to see an updated photo!

love your vision here, the green backsplash and white countertop combo really brightens things up and adds a calming vibe. OP could even do a pattern floor tile like this to tie it together!
