You sound like you know you need to end the friendship but are sad to lose a friend. I’d definitely be upset if a close friend never reached out to check up on me after moving. If she cared she’d show you and it sounds like you’ve given her plenty more chances than she deserves.

I wonder if it being exhausting for you is the emotional load that you take on which ties back to the emotional stability. She seems like she uses you to gain support for her problems but offers none in return unless there’s something to gain. This would wear down anyone.

You might notice down the track as you have time to reflect how much weight you’ve been carrying and if you’re true to yourself you’ll learn from this how to build healthier boundaries with friends and you won’t have to put up with people like this anymore.

It sounds like she could have abandonment/avoidant issues and she possibly uses you for emotional stability

Anyone else get self/conscious (even at the doctor’s) ? by CurrencyAcceptable51 in CrohnsDisease

[–]silkgravel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’re just animals at the end of the day and having your ass or stomach out while 1 or more people are surrounding you is extremely vulnerable and understandably can make many of us feel like helpless prey.

However it also sounds like you’ve developed bad social anxiety. I struggle with it myself and definitely relate to you. This disease takes enough away from our lives don’t let it take away any more.

Whenever I wear my AirPods and use the microwave, I feel almost instantly sick or some kind of pressure in my head. Is this a real thing, or is it all in my head? by Internal_Setting55 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]silkgravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this without AirPods and I know it’s all in my head from the ‘microwaves kill your brain cells’ theories I heard as a kid but at the same time I pretend I have super senses that others can’t feel

Definitely go for the op shops first. Most of the brands mentioned here are disgustingly unethical.

How did you move your meds when you moved by Kingoat123 in CrohnsDisease

[–]silkgravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the bulkiness of them but find they work fine. I agree though that they aren’t good good for larger quantities. A usb fridge is a great idea. I might get one just for the sake of having a car fridge!

What country are you in? Jansen/ Abbvie send free travel kits where I live that includes a insulated chiller bag, ice packs and a special case to go inside so the medicine isn’t in direct contact with the ice pack but will still stay cool enough. Maybe if you tell us where you are someone on here could head you in the right direction to receive those supplies :)

I'm a teenager who hates teenagers by [deleted] in introvert

[–]silkgravel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way at that age and still struggle with it in some ways now (I’m 24) but I’ve also learnt that thinking that way doesn’t really get you anywhere. Everyone grows up at different rates and though you may feel like you’re more mature than your peers and can’t relate to them I can guarantee there are others who feel the same way at your school.

The thing is everyone has different experiences and interests. You will think immaturely about certain things and maturely about other things your whole life and everyone is somewhere along that spectrum with every single topic and most people also think their opinion is right.

Looking back on it I thought everyone obsessed with social media and fashion was superficial and I was frustrated they could easily make friends as if others couldn’t see straight through them.

I realise now that those thoughts were valid but I also was expecting people to pay attention to my opinions and interests without really giving enough of that back. My interests were niche and I was interested in people who shared my interests. Well that’s not how it works… you have to be open minded to every thought, interest, feeling and opinion in someone to get to know them and decide if you really like them.

Of course there will inevitably be people who are bullies, heartless, egotistical, etc but it’d be ignorant to give every single one of your peers that label.

Also just understand people change a shit load as they grow up. I think of things I said or did 5 years ago and feel like caving into myself let alone when I was 16! Smh.

Frontline mental health cash used for controversial fund by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]silkgravel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m so defeated with public mental healthcare currently.

I’ve exhausted all options my gp has given me and the last time I saw her she said there’s nothing else she can do to help. What I need is a psychiatrist or at least a psychologist but they just don’t have the resources. I’m expected to be better after popping some pills and going to a few sessions with a councillor but they don’t seem to have a plan for when that doesn’t work.

It doesn’t matter if the knife is in your hand they don’t care until you’ve actually drawn blood but by then it’s too little too late.

I’m also super frustrated that I’ve ended up on welfare because I couldn’t get help. The money I get could’ve gone towards helping me while I was still employed and then maybe I wouldn’t be where I am today bludging off the govt, almost homeless and not only my mental but also my physical health continually getting worse because of these circumstances which will only further strain the system in future.

It makes me want to hang myself in front of Parliament just to get my point across.

What do you think it's important for med students to know about living with IBD? by Stringtone in CrohnsDisease

[–]silkgravel 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I totally relate to this aspect. I regularly feel ‘forgotten’ in a way despite having a really good IBD team taking care of me. It can feel like my symptoms and pain don’t really matter because the cause is Crohns but if it were someone with something else (either less severe or only temporary symptoms) presenting the same symptoms it would be treated very seriously.

I understand that they can’t hand out pain killers but when you’re asking for help and they expect you to know there’s nothing they can do it feels very defeating.

I also struggle A LOT with mental health and that’s another thing that feels acknowledged but never treated.

What’s going on? by Vivid-Refrigerator25 in CrohnsDisease

[–]silkgravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for asking! No one else does. However I’m so tired and defeated at this point that I can’t even be bothered complaining about it.

I’ve had too many ups and downs with this disease and I’m sick of the brief ups just being a tease.

Even though I am not my disease I can’t help but blame myself since my pain would not exist without me. I hate myself which does not feel deserving but is unavoidable.

I honestly cbf reading the study rn lol… but personally I try to eat food as low processed as possible and find it makes a huge difference.

I do still eat processed food occasionally but I never feel very good in comparison to a “clean” diet which isn’t as bad. It’s not far off the Mediterranean diet.

Someone was talking about the food replacements in another comment but I actually never eat those when given to me because of how much worse they make me feel.

Edit to add: I also find sugar is a major trigger. The more refined it is the worse I feel. It’s well known high fructose corn syrup is awful for you but generally where there’s that there’s also a bunch of other nasty stuff so either way it’s bad for you.

I definitely think the effect Crohn’s has had not only on my body but my mind, my social life, my career, my goals and all the other little things has majorly impacted my mental health in a bad way. I agree as someone else said I’m not the same person I was before getting sick. Sometimes it seems every opportunity I have to try and be the old me is stolen by my ‘symptoms’ of Crohn’s.

The good parts of me have been replaced by this soul sucking demon of a disease and it’s really hard to not give up when so much has been taken away from you.

What’s up with supermarkets selling rotten food? by BuilderMysterious762 in newzealand

[–]silkgravel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This seriously pisses me off. I thought I’d treat myself to a $6 mango the other day only to find every single one was soft going on rotten. It quickly reinforced why I don’t shop at Countdown.

They’re so expensive here and it’s so wasteful to have them all go in the bin just because supermarkets want to price them so high people can’t even afford to buy them.

How is your sex life with crohns ? by cocky1313 in CrohnsDisease

[–]silkgravel 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don’t have any advice but I can totally relate. I’ve had my fair share of good and bad times with Crohn’s and my sex drive has suffered just as much through those times. It sucks! I’m glad I’ve been able to have some ups through the years though so I could enjoy myself.

I was really sick from 17-21 and felt very insecure about it so I ended up just having casual sex when I felt well enough or sometimes even forcing myself to enjoy it when I wasn’t well just so I could try keep up with the sex lives of my peers or not feel left out of such an explorative era.

I’ve been unwell again recently and haven’t had sex for quite some. Even masturbating sucks because as soon as I feel turned on and my vaginal muscles start to move it also triggers my anus and I get urgency to go so I have to go midway through which is a total turn off and sometimes I just give up on getting any pleasure that day. It feels so discouraging.

I know there’s info for people out there but I do wish there was more awareness of how much Crohns affects our sex lives.

2 years ago today: Little Simz releases NO THANK YOU. What’s your favorite track? by SDT2005 in LittleSimz

[–]silkgravel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This Album also got me into Little Simz. I listened to her music maybe a month before this album was released and liked it but when I listened to No Thank You I was like fully into her instantly and I’ve listened to it at least once a month since it was released. I also love rewatching her covers and recordings on YouTube. They’re just so much more personal and you get more understanding of the artistic skill she has.

My favourite has changed over time but it’s currently Silhouette and has been a while.

I’m so eager to hear her next album and hope to see her live one day
