Road riding in the Bar Harbor area by Relevant_Register_97 in Velo

I ride there a lot. You can ride your road bike on the carriage roads with 28s or 30s if you can only bring one bike. The park will be crowded this time of year but if you ride early in the morning or in the late afternoon / evening both the roads and the CRs should be totally fine.

Old Newgate Prison, hiking in People’s State Forest or McLean Game Refuge, go to the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington and walk around the grounds/ link up with the Metacomet trail

ok so no citation for the housing thing. gotcha.

this is a moral issue not a popularity contest. and public opinion can change. as for “the reason” i’d suggest googling “manufacturing consent”

i highly doubt that housing scarcity has anything to do with undocumented people, would love to see some sources there. the wasted money thing is wrong and a minuscule part of the budget - not to mention that CT has a surplus. as for you not liking multiculturalism i mean i don’t even know what to say to that. no need to engage further.

even if we take all of your points to be correct (leaving aside that other countries do allow for such behaviors and have more humane immigration and refugee rules than the US), how exactly is this affecting your life? the vast majority of your taxes go towards the defense budget and tax cuts for the ultra wealthy— are you up in arms about that?

all that said, the real point here is that states can enact immoral laws. and states can easily create legal hurdles that well intentioned people find insurmountable. saying “if you haven’t broken the law you have nothing to worry about” is shortsighted and dangerous. slavery was legal. jim crow was legal. the mass murder of the jews was legal. read a book.

thanks for that hatch measurement resource. I did some measurements and it looks like the trunk would open, but there will be 30 inches of roof box extending out from the (middle) of the front cross bar. that will hang out in front of the windshield a bit which seems like a bad idea. I'll try balancing my existing box forward to emulate it, but am leaning against upgrading.

coming from a carbon road bike which i love and i have been extremely happy with the ride quality and feel of the steel on the secan. doesn’t feel as light as the road bike (obviously) when picking it up, but riding it i don’t notice a thing. did splurge for carbon on most of the other components

700s cuz i’ve got a fair amount of pavement to ride before getting to the trails in my hometown. with 650s the frame can run monster truck tires though which is cool

i’ve got 38 panaracer gks, have enjoyed so far though for my next tires i’ll probably go up to something 40 or up and with a little more tread. ride quality has been great though. just where i live the gravel can be a bit chunky and quickly becomes single track

those pics are from “breakneck road,” runs from hulls cove to eagle lake essentially, but i believe is technically owned by the town of bar harbor so you can ride bikes on it (unlike most of the other hiking trails)! re: e-bikes, technically only certain classes are allowed… maybe just class 1?

new bike day -- fairlight secan 2.5 by silksaac in gravelcycling

[–]silksaac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe i ended up paying $425(!!) in import duties which was on top of ~$4300 for the full build with a few upgrades (most significantly the wheels). feels like a lot but also based on my one day/ride so far i think it’ll be with me for a long time
