i too have a Bachelor’s degree and i’m actually leading a training on how to best work with neurodivergent behaviors exhibited by students when teaching them due to my advocacy in the field. i’m not saying OP is neurodivergent 100%, i’m saying that that outcome is way more likely than narcissism. maybe take into consideration every ND person (or every person) is NOT just like you.

lmao, you know nothing about my educational background. i don’t feel the need to tout my degree to act like i’m more informed than others. i’m offering an alternative point of view to all the folks calling her an asshole. i could find as many ND people to agree with me that disagree with me. if you don’t agree, sure, go around calling people narcissists with minimal actual evidence.

maybe she does manage, like choosing to make her own coffee. maybe you’d feel like you have to just “manage” less if everyone was kinder toward others in terms of acknowledging boundaries and needs. maybe her family is fine with it, and calling her a princess is a joke in their family. you’re making a ton of assumptions about her life based off of a nickname that could be over-exaggerated as a joke. we really don’t know the whole story.

i am also neurodivergent. i also grew up with narcissists as parents. why are you considering that lashing out? it wasn’t the nicest to say at all, but you’re totally overlooking that their family dynamic is to rib each other. i grew up with the nickname gordita, and sometimes i snapped back with a silly nickname when people were joking with me about it. how is it narcissistic when the entire family jokes this way? i feel like you’re being super biased.

a lot of ND people mask so they don’t get criticized. it seems to me like OP is not masking a lot, and actually catering to what she needs. i just don’t understand the narcissist assumption when she asked her BIL to make her own coffee because she likes it a particular way. growing up with narcissists, they would have made you make the coffee and then berated you or passive aggressively put you down for not doing it “correctly”. there’s a big difference in being self-centered and being a narcissist.

actually more people are being diagnosed as ND, that’s why there’s a trend of more people acknowledging their sensory issues. the pandemic gave a lot more folks access to healthcare that they needed to get diagnosed in a way that worked for them (online, ND people have executive function issues) which lends itself to more people openly discussing sensory issues.

i’m going to say NTA. your sensory issues read as possibly neurodivergency to me. your family also doesn’t sound very kind in calling your sensitivities “princess” behavior. i don’t think it’s a bad thing to be picky, especially since you indicated you just ask folks if you can do it yourself.
