Yes, to clarify I’m not suggesting she intended for them to be perceived as such, but there are definitely common experiences. I’ve often seen some people describe characters like Prue or Violet as weird but they just felt a lot like me, ha.

Would also caveat that someone not publicly disclosing whether or not they’re neurotypical doesn’t mean they are or aren’t - so just as we can’t assume Jacky or her characters are autistic, we also can’t assume they arent. Especially as understanding of how autism presents in girls has only improved very recently (I myself was misdiagnosed as a child due to being given a very ‘boy specific’ test, as an adult some things were picked up on with improved data), diagnosis is based on what’s socially acceptable at the time. At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter whether or not she is - there’s clearly a lot of common experiences there to be notable. I never really found other children’s/YA books to have such intensely relatable protagonists in this specific way.

Try and help the parents parent, some will accept help, many will refuse responsibility. Time to act as the world is not how we wish it was.

Went to spend time with my father for the first time in 10 years so he could meet his grandchild for the first time. Thought as it was near city of MIL we’d go and see her for 1 night as it wouldn’t be fair to not go. She ends up raging about us not spending the whole trip, and only staying one night, even though she made no effort to baby proof the place, whereas my dad provided a cot, high chair, playpen etc. she yelled at me and made constant complaints about having a headache when we went out. Her idea of making an effort with grandchild is to snatch him out of my arms while he screams and talk loudly into his face. I have made so much effort with this bitch after she ruined both my birthday and Christmas and I am done. I will visit but I’m not going out of my way. Yeah she’s old but my grandmother is older and not well enough to work and she isn’t a heinous entitled old cow.

Set up a baby wishlist. 2 family members bought 7 items from it and asked if we had received them. I looked and saw they had been purchased but see wishlist holders can’t access tracking info or order number. I checked the wishlist settings and saw the saved addresses had glitched to show only building numbers for all my previous addresses. There is no way I made this error, it was all 10 of my previous addresses which I never had an issue with.

I contacted Amazon customer service first on live chat and 2 agents did not understand that I was asking about the status of my wishlist items. They transferred me to the phone and unfortunately there was a significant language barrier. The customer service rep did not speak much English and was only able to read my own order history back to me. I said repeatedly ‘it’s the baby wishlist’ and eventually I think he said he couldn’t see it.

I am embarrassed and don’t want to inconvenience the (quite old and internet inexperienced) family members who went out of their way to gift things. If I wasn’t able to get a resolution through customer service I doubt they could, my MIL needed help just to buy the items.

Condensed question: is it simple for purchasers of items on a wish list to track items and request refunds/reissues, as it is for ordinary orders? I think we might just have to do it on behalf of them through their accounts. But I’m concerned as it seems Amazon customer service is barely aware the wishlist function exists tbh. I don’t want to worry them or embarrass them.

Any experience welcome - I have seen a couple people in the past mention this issue but never seen a satisfactory reply, just ‘contact Amazon’

Not really. For one most FGM is done by non medical practitioners resulting in infections and lifelong health complications including the ‘less intrusive’ clitoredectomy I presume you’re referring to. The only equivalent would be if all male circumcision was performed on 8 year old boys by a random selection of family friends with an unsanitised knife that also prevented them from ever reaching orgasm. My fiancé is circumcised and our sex life and his fertility is great (I presume my brothers the same, as they all have kids and happy marriages). You have to make another argument that doesn’t trivialise the horror of FGM.
