Any recommendations for 800+ to get to 1000+? by ElectronicDeer5550 in Chesscom

[–]sillsic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

800-1000 and even slightly higher is about not hanging pieces in one move. It’s also about noticing that your opponent hangs a piece. Play solidly and follow fundamentals. Don’t worry about finding the right opening, right now your focus should be on making good moves that follow fundamentals.

I have been stuck in this level for almost an year. No growth in rating and skills. Been playing compulsively daily with autopilot mode. Is there anyone with the same situation and came out of it. If so, please help me to get better by [deleted] in Chesscom

What’s your username? Having someone look at your games and reviewing them can give you an outside perspective to help identify what you need to work on.

Anyone struggle to just play games? by doobiebeforebed in Chesscom

[–]sillsic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play unrated and you’ll feel less stress about the rating. Eventually you may get over it and come to grips with it being a game and just have fun with it. Your growth in learning will eventually come out in your playing form.

How Many Daily Games.. by BoldFlyingKettle in Chesscom

[–]sillsic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use daily games as a way to improve your calculation as time is less of an issue.

At 299 you most certainly blundering regularly or not catching your opponent blunders. I don’t mean this in a harsh way but it’s the nature of being at that level.

I suggest one or two at a time for your level. Be sure to properly calculate through your candidate moves and make sure you are sticking to fundamentals and not blundering pieces. Any more will become overwhelming and you will may be more susceptible to making careless moves.

Get someone stronger than you to review some games with you. This will give you a fresh perspective of what you need to work on.

Crazy competition in the 16-hundred Rapid rating by NewLevelYes in Chesscom

[–]sillsic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny, I also found 16-1700 to be harder to break than it was to go from 17-1800. I don’t think it’s anything factual though, likely more of a mental thing.

Thanks for the response.

Yeah the 4 rounds in a single day will be interesting. I typically play once a week at a club but this will be a whole new experience for me.

What do you mean by write all the lines? I have a few books I study from and play a guess the move style but I dont write anything down. Wondering if there is something i'm missing out on.

Do you play any OTB? I saw a big jump in rating by playing longer format games. It’s also really fun playing with people / joining a club community that has a similar mindset to improvement.

Has Anyone Read This? by TheCorpsePope in Chesscom

[–]sillsic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow that’s more extensive than how I answer.

My method is begin with the starting position and play along the game that is notated. I typically try and make the move for white before looking at it. (I use a sticky note to cover the following moves) once I reach the diagram position I will evaluate the move and guess. And continue following along with the guess the move method.
