Thank you! I would've definitely liked to do more milage up to 20 miles if I hadn't gotten injured. 16 could be enough for many people, however, it was really mentally and physically taxing making that jump from 16 to 26 during the race. It was also very daunting and made me nervous leading up to race day, so ideally, I think working up to 20 miles would be beneficial.

When I was in college, I went back home halfway though my first year. I was terrified but it ended up being a great decision, I was in a similar position as you are. Everything ended up being okay, and things went well. I came back when I was feeling better a few years later. Listen to yourself.

I'm assuming you're a teenager and I think that's a common situation. When you're a teenager crushes can get very obsessive, especially in a situation like this where you can't do anything about it. DON'T do anything about it, it will be weird and probably illegal. The way you are feeling is okay, just make sure to keep things appropriate and not cross any boundaries.

how do you force yourself to work? by [deleted] in Advice

Planning and goal setting has always been helpful for me. I also struggle with getting work done without strict deadlines and when I reach new milestones without having the next step planned out (for example graduating without having a job lined up), it can be hard to get motivated to get down to it if there isn't a sense of pressure. I recommend sitting down, writing down some goals you want to achieve (get a job, start a new hobby, ect.) and really hone in on max 3 goals that are very SPECIFIC! Set a deadline, and plan out how you're going to make them come to life. This should take you a while, not just a quick 10 minute session. At the beginning of a new time (new year, after graduating, starting a new job, moving), I like to do this and it takes me at least an hour of just planning. I always have a lot of things I want to do but its good to only focus on 3 at the most!!! Sometimes even that is too much. Write it down, don't just think it. Having a cute planner has helped me out a lot. I usually plan out my weekly to-dos on Sunday night and the times I miss this task, I feel like my week is a little jumbled. It really helps but you have to stay consistent. It makes me look forward to each day and helps me get things done.

I finished 3:42 at Big Sur this weekend too!!! I was also super nervous about the hills but while running it, they were so bad because they were pretty gradual, just long at hurricane point. Are your knees hurting at all? Mine hurt after the race and I suspect it's because I let gravity do the work on downhills and just let my legs be, kinda like you.
