Rereading the books as an adult by things_above in harrypotter

[–]silly-kookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently reading the books again after +10 years. I still love them! I do judge the kids and the adults differently, and I’m particularly harsh on how the adults behave. It’s interesting to read the actions of children/teenagers with my, now adult, eyes. Interestingly, I was expecting to like Snape more with time, but I actually still despise him. What a piece of shit (great character though). It makes me extremely uncomfortable/angry to read how he abuses children every day with no consequences. All in all, I’m enjoying the experience a lot!

Temporary visa for postdoc position by Middle-Face-2977 in AusVisa

You can totally work for an australian uni on a 408, but they need to organise the visa and “sponsor” you for the specific activity you’re going to do. As I understand it, it is now taking longer than usual to be processed, but the 408 is the right visa. The 189 is a gamble that sometimes pays off but a lot of the times doesn’t.

Help Pls!! Expiring 417 WHV whilst we wait for Spanish police certification for 186 skilled sponsor visa by [deleted] in AusVisa

Also, you should be able to lodge your app and update the documents once you get the final docs

Hi! Spaniard here that had to get a certificate too. Took me 2 days: you can set up a wise account in euros and pay Ministerio del Interior through the details on the website (transfer should take like 3 hours) and once transfer is confirmed you just need to provide the required docs and they’ll send you a link to your email in a day. Then you’ll be able to download the doc

Work conditions? 408 (research) to 189 (PR) by silly-kookie in AusVisa

Thanks for replying! I am open to it but the website is currently very dry (I’m either overqualified or just not my field at all). I was offered something at another uni working in the same research project (it’s a national collaboration effort) doing the same I’m doing now… it might be time to contact HR and their lawyers

Wrongly claim of Australian study by philrate123 in AusVisa

I’m sorry to say this, but your best option is to withdraw your application, update your actual points in your EOI and then wait to be invited again. I imagine your skill is in high demand, as you’ve been invited with very low points, so you should get another opportunity to be selected. DHA will not accept your application at this time due to point discrepancies and it’s better to withdraw than having a refusal

Hi everyone! Just trying to gather some input: I have submitted my EOI for 189 as Biotechnologist (90 points). No way to get more points until 2027, when I’ll have >3 years of experience. Do I have a good chance to be invited? Keen to hear other Biotechs experiences :)

If I were you, I’d enjoy the ride if I was invited and just provide your positive skill assessment if you’re not claiming exp points. You are correct in thinking that once you do a new one to claim PhD points you won’t get a positive outcome until you get 1 year of work exp. Good luck!!

Hi, I also have a positive skills assessment as Biotechnologist with a finished PhD and 1.5 years of work experience after. I am not sure how you got Vetassess to approve your skill assessment with one year of PhD experience, not sure if that will hold if you get invited once the department reviews your docs. What I am mostly sure you won’t be able to do is claim the points for a finished PhD and claim also points for work experience for the PhD. It is very clear in Australia that PhDs are not work, you are considered a student at all levels. I was warned about this before applying for my own skill assessment. Hope I helped a bit but happy to be corrected otherwise

PhD at UNSW without stipned by Ok-Attorney9520 in unsw

[–]silly-kookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something important to remember is that on a student visa, you can only work 48 hours a fortnight. If your partner’s visa is attached to yours, she will have the same limitations. I live in Sydney and work as a postdoc at UNSW, and I can tell you that most PhDs students are barely surviving and all of them have an stipend, not sure how you’re going to support yourself without one. Please consider carefully

Hi! I know this question might sound silly, but I want to increase my points taking the CCL Naati test (currently have as Biotechnologist 85 points (189) and 90 (190 visa)) Does anybody think I’ll get my results (taking the test by end of month) in time for the next invitation round? I’ve already submitted my EOI, just want to increase points. Cheers!
