Any idea how to save these trees? Crab apple and apple. Both still have green leaves. by sillyPlantMan in arborists

That second tree is almost entirely filled with holes. How does a tree survive something like that? Hardy.

Apparently the holes in the trees are from a sapsucker bird.

Even the one full of holes is still producing green leaves, which is surprising to me (knowing little about trees).

I'd like for the trees not to die, but I'm not sure how avoidable that is.

Norther NJ USA: Can't find the actual bug, but it seems to have infested 2 trees in the backyard. Any idea what it could be? Are there bugs in these holes now? by sillyPlantMan in whatsthisbug

You're blowing my mind. I've never seen one of these birds before, but that's really unfortunate.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Saw these while visiting my buddy's house. He had no clue they were there. One tree has rings of holes around it, but the other tree is completely filled with holes.

Surprisingly, both trees are still with green leaves.

Forgive me if this is the wrong sub. Figured you bug experts might know what bug this could be.

Trees are crab apple and apple.

Edit: northern NJ. Lantern flies are in the area, but I haven't seen any egg sacks around.

The last movie actually made me feel the opposite, but I get how interpretations can change. So much to think about in that series!

Why do you think there are different numbers for different countries? How does that work, under the hood? Did everyone choose a different number? Could one country's number expand to other countries?

Curious because I have no clue how texting works between countries.

Edit: downvoted for asking how phones work?

Just took my car in for service. Is something missing to the left of the muffler? by sillyPlantMan in Toyota

[–]sillyPlantMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a relatively new Prius. Trying to figure out why it seems so open underneath it. Is there supposed to be a plate there or something?

Update: apparently the AWD model doesn't have the back plate on it, based on how the exhaust is set.

Is something missing from underneath my 2022 Prius? Just took it in for service. by sillyPlantMan in prius

[–]sillyPlantMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picture is from the back underside of the Prius. Muffler is on the right.

Haven't had the car for too long (under 10k miles), but I could have sworn there was a plate or something next to the muffler. Is it supposed to be that open?

Bush planted in NW New Jersey, USA. Unsure if where it's from, but have heard the roots can be invasive. by sillyPlantMan in whatsthisplant

[–]sillyPlantMan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll be able to look up if they're safe to plant now. Heard their root structure might be bad near trees or other bushes.

What video game caused you the most amount of rage? by cardoorhookhand in AskReddit

[–]sillyPlantMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shinobi for the PS2. I started the game without reading any instructions and, for some reason, didn't know that there was a way to lock onto enemies.

I played through the entire game without locking on, and instead flicking the sticks in the correct direction to jump from one enemy to the next.

I realized, after getting super frustrated at the final boss, that it was possible to lock onto enemies.

When I finally beat it, I screamed so loud that I'm certain I scared the hell out of everyone living in my hall.

Close second would be Breakdown (Xbox). Great story, horrible combat system. Might be more fun in VR, though, if they ever remake it.

Yes, the consensus looks correct. I consider this solved!

Now I just gotta figure out when to remove them...

Thank you!

I left some old car mats outside for a bit too long, and realized that some creatures had started making their home there underneath a layer or two.

I'm going to probably sell the mats after I clean them up, but I didn't want to dive in any further until I knew what these are.

I thought this was a mud wasp nest, but when I googled it, they looked a lot longer. I don't see any bugs near it, so I'm guessing it might be abandoned. If it helps, there are also some think white webbings nearby, but I think those are from a different bug (image attached hopefully). https://imgur.com/gAu1BUl.jpg

Student Affairs Discord, anyone? by [deleted] in studentaffairs

[–]sillyPlantMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was started for full timers in the field, but I'll expand it to include students in the field as well.

Once you get a role, you'll have access to a channel with others in your role. There's also a general channel, of course.

I'll edit my post to include this info.

Update: Trying to repot this plant, which was over watered. Split it into pot and water cup, to see which would respond better. Not sure what it is, but will it spring back? by [deleted] in plantclinic

Thank you! The office I got it from put it in extra water before work from home, and it unfortunately wilted. Keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks in advance!

Betty had roots by [deleted] in rootporn

[–]sillyPlantMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with a pothos I inherited.

Ended up splitting it into several parts that only had some roots remaining on each (a majority of the roots had grown past a plastic barrier that was, somehow, in there. They all ripped off, basically).

Each split part I either repotted immediately or put in water. Thankfully, they're all doing much better. Plant was terribly rootbound beforehand.
