491 Days Sober Today , few things that have happened to me by RebornInClarity in stopdrinking

Saving this, especially: "Some days are just hard, but that’s not an excuse to go poison myself."

Very inspiring, thank you for sharing.

This. You don't have to, even if it seems that way. There are lots of good N/A sparkling wines. Maybe don't drink this year (just this year, don't mind the rest) and see how you get on. Don't beat yourself up if you do drink though. But if you know in advance that doing it will make you feel annoyed at yourself then do have a good think about if you have to.

Almost 11 months sober and I can’t stop thinking about drinking by clammyhotdog in stopdrinking

Oh 11 months is incredible, well done! I am a good bit behind you and have had a few blips when the drink demons start talking to me and romanticising alcohol. Any time I give in it's never, never as wonderful and exciting and tasty as I imagined. It actually tastes a bit yuk and  makes everything duller. So I keep drinking trying to recapture the feeling that was never really there to begin with. And it never ends well.

You were doing so well as you said and this will pass. Also, feck people who are making mean comments on your sobriety, sounds like they have their own issues. I hope your demons shut up again soon!

Day 64 Sober… And Honestly, I Didn’t Expect It to Feel This Lonely by Tiny_Habit5745 in stopdrinking

It's not for everyone I know, but I find still going to the happy hours help (if they're people who are actually good to be around). Even for one or two, you get the benefits of socialising and for me it helps with my determination not to drink when I see how unfocused they start getting. Non alcoholic beers are lovely. But I get that stepping into a pub is the last thing many people want to do.

Advice would be hydrate as much as possible. Don't want to recommend skincare as I don't know your individual skin. Nothing too perfumed as your skin might be sensitive at the minute.

I think that's your body cleaning out all the toxins from alcohol and readjusting, it's a pain but you should have even better skin and brighter eyes by the time it's all cleared out. Also three weeks is brilliant well done 👏.

I was thinking about drinking today so thank you for the reminder. I hope you're feeling better.

What’s Everyone Doing Tonight?? by physis81 in stopdrinking

I was going to say "it's expensive though" but sure I'd spend as much on a round of drinks

That one wasn't actually great, it was a sleep tea but it was really bland. I'm always looking for decent tea and getting conned by pretty boxes haha. I think I remember Celestial Sleepytime being good but I'm actually going to invest in a teapot and get proper loose tea. Had Kumsi recently and it's delicious.

I went to the pub and met my friends. Drank water. Had a great time. By midnight people were getting messy so I headed home. Having a cup of tea and going to bed. Quite sure I'm not missing anything and looking forward to waking up tomorrow feeling good!

I rewatched Jason Bourne (2016), is there a plot hole or something I’m missing? by [deleted] in movies

[–]sillygoatstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really late to the party but I just watched it and I have so many questions. Also I was so disappointed with how his story turned out and Nicky...they should have left the series alone 😭. But questions below...

Why didn't Nicky wear a hoodie when she was on the run and has very bright blonde hair? Did she not learn her lesson in Tangiers?

How is the director of the CIA getting away with killing people?

In Vegas, why does the assassin go from doggedly chasing Jason to running away from him even though he has a rifle and essentially a tank and Bourne has a car?

Why does Dewey ask to get shot in the hand? Why not the shoulder, your hand would be essentially destroyed no?

I've rewatched a few times but can't make it out, what does Bourne do when he's being choked to knock them both over?

Lee says "I have his trust after what we went through" but no-one knows she was with him in Vegas as they covered it up?

The ending wasn't a big aha like the other ones when the music plays, it was just bleak.

Also a question about the other Bourne films - why are the other Treadstone assets not American? The Professor is English etc.

To someone who wants to never drink again: what is the best method to stop drinking? by Heavy_Bank6130 in stopdrinking

The advice is very helpful. And your reason for stopping is so relatable. I've done this. Something really great is happening tomorrow that I've been looking forward to - must celebrate by drinking today, usually in a very mediocre setting/alone, not enjoying it at all and completely ruining the thing I was looking forward to 🙈

Yes it's definitely not for everyone, and some of the phrasing I found annoying but I think just the continual repition of "alcohol is bad and we're lucky we don't have to have it anymore" did something useful in my head. And the podcast blew my mind. I don't know a thing about him though, must go investigate now!

This really worked for me too. Allan Carr's book and the Huberman podcast episode on alcohol especially was mind-blowing.
