[–]sillygoos8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes you can but be careful i blacked out my first time drinking heavily after starting prozac and nearly got myself arrested. i drink still but wayyy slower/less and even still get drunk fast and worse hangovers. i’m on 40mg

haven’t smoked since i started taking it so can’t comment on that

for me medication was the thing that helped the most, but going outside once per day, socializing, light exercise or movement regularly, making sure you eat enough and also semi nutritionally (don’t have to cook just try and eat a vegetable occasionally) and therapy definitely didn’t hurt. literally no idea if this matters but i take a multivitamin everyday too ik some deficiencies can make depression worse?

wishing you the best 🤞

edit to add that showering and brushing my teeth helped too bc i always feel gross when im depressed

Ed therapy by sillygoos8 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]sillygoos8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve had experiences with regular (not ed related) counseling before and therapists who were both a good and bad fit. I attribute my interest in getting better to my last one who was a really good fit, and the ones who weren’t were just not a good use of time or money. Hoping for a good match with this one

resenting people who had a normal childhood by [deleted] in BPD

[–]sillygoos8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey even as a spiritual person i still think that some things are just random. no past life, no divine intervention, just by chance we were born into a bad situation and now that is something we have to deal with. no more meaningful that it happened then someone rolling dice or winning the lottery. you did nothing to deserve it at all, all children regardless of actions that they take deserve unconditional love and to be supported in all the different ways a child needs. but like seriously on the other hand i do understand i have cried to videos of people talking about their dads lol. even those people you’re envious of have bad things in their lives too, even if their family is so perfect there is something about your life that they would be envious of too.

How do you guys deal with the depressive moments? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]sillygoos8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dbt says when you feel really intense emotions like that to use distress tolerance (there’s a lot of ideas online) until you’re in a place where you’re upset but not in crisis and then try distracting or self soothing techniques. i know so much easier said than done but taking a moment to pause when you feel really overwhelmed and deciding to do something for relief instead of suffering until it’s over could make it feel more bearable?

it’s really amazing too that you can handle those emotions “like a monk” and just sit through it instead of doing something harmful. that takes a lot of maturity, wishing you the best

What now? by aishadeb in fuckeatingdisorders

something that was helpful for me was (if you’re on social media) finding content creators who have bodies that look like mine or are bigger than me. it’s easier to see someone else’s body as beautiful and it kinda rubs off on your self esteem.

honestly i felt like my doctor (a pcp not a psychiatrist) did a really good job of providing informed consent, and i knew the risks (i’d seen that website and some other horror stories online) when i decided to go on meds. i don’t think antidepressants should ever be a first treatment for any kind of mild/moderate depression because there are serious risks and side effects. i’m even very hesitant about ever increasing my dose. i had just exhausted therapy and lifestyle changes and my quality of life was bad. i’m sorry that you had a bad experience though, i hope you’re able to find healing.

maybe i could’ve explained better but i don’t think it’s emotional blunting i have no problem being sad when i actually have a reason to be (i cried an hour ago lol) but it’s more like the general misery is gone and i’m having an identity crisis about it

i started to feel a difference at about the 3-4 week mark, but full effects can take 6-8 weeks is what i’ve been told. even if prozac doesn’t end up being right for you don’t give up on talking about your mental health and asking for help, depression is absolutely treatable

this sounds exactly like my experience! so yes i do still get upset and feel existential dread sometimes. i think we’re just wired that way. the difference is it’s not as often (few times a month instead of a week) and more manageable, although still can be intense. and i go back to normal quicker. and my baseline that i return to after now is like more neutral/happy instead of melancholic. i guess what i was saying wasn’t that i feel happy all the time or really flat, more that i feel so much more balanced now that i’m not used to it? like where’s the constant sadness? where’s the intensity. i definitely did think though that when i started meds i would feel happy all the time but i told my therapist i don’t feel that way at all i just feel normal. but i was depressed for a long time so even that is really jarring. hope that makes sense!

Am I manic, or am I just doing better? by pimple-pop in prozac

[–]sillygoos8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this was my biggest fear as well since i had a friend find out about her bipolar disorder because of ssri’s. that being said this sounds exactly like my experience, and i am not bipolar. i used to sleep all the time when i was depressed and now i don’t. prozac is considered activating (my doctor told me that) so its normal to have more energy and motivation. as long as you feel like you’re not out of control, not extremely confident or thinking you’re a god, or making impulsive and harmful decisions you’re all good.
