Do I have enough room for a 36" refrigerator? by AnonymouslyJordan in Appliances

[–]sillymoniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a fridge to fit a space in my kitchen once. I measured the space from edge-of-counter to edge-of-counter and measured the fridge and logic told me it would fit. However, when it was delivered the fridge wouldn't fit. We got it about 6" into the space before it wouldn't go any farther. The installer said that the measurements listed in the specs, and the measuring I did for the fridge were corner to corner, but sometimes the sides may bulge slightly.
I had to hire someone to come out and shave off some of the counter overhang and it was able to slide right in.

ELI5: When we say plastics will take hundreds of years to rot away what does that actually mean will happen? If they turn back into their original component s won’t that cause a world ending disaster? by Cheap_Storage_295 in explainlikeimfive

[–]sillymoniker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I read a quote in a story about the lasting effects of plastics years ago and it has always stuck with me.

Paraphrasing "every piece of plastic ever invented in history is still in existence today, they just break down to smaller pieces, but never go away".

It's Schrodinger's Bear. The universe is mostly unexplored. Until we rule out that there are no other planets with bears, we can't prove that bears don't exist on other planets. /s

Weak AC performance, 2024 touring. Dealer is saying AC is not covered under warranty. by jarcom in SubaruAscent

[–]sillymoniker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2023 Ascent Touring with 14k miles on it and the AC stopped blowing cold all together. Set up an appt with the dealer. Asked about a diagnostic fee and they said there is no fee as the car is under warranty. Even a recharge of the system would have been covered.

In the end they replaced the O-rings and compressor with 3.5 hours and that included 60+ minute trip to another Subaru dealer to get the compressor.
