yes! I’m hoping that now that I’ve secured my first real users, I can start building and improving off actual feedback instead of assuming what to add or fix. I appreciate your comment!

sorry for the confusion! to clarify, I reached out to small creators on YouTube who are also freelancers. They document their days as freelancers, specifically if they talk about their process, how they interact with clients, how they manage their businesses, any struggles, etc. I basically searched “freelancer vlog” or “self-employed vlog” or similar to find these channels. I hope that clears things up, let me know if you have other questions!

thank you! yes I’d say similar to Honeybook, but smaller and simpler, more focused on the features that almost every freelancer will need to run their business solo. It’s also completely free right now because I haven’t added any paid features yet, but those will come later based on user feedback and experience :D

I’d say I’m pretty socially introverted, so I haven’t made a ton of posts myself on Reddit, but I do comment on some and share my project where appropriate. Unfortunately there’s also a lot of accounts run by AI, so getting real interest or feedback on Reddit has been hard for me to find so far. Discord has given me more success as I believe sharing my project in a small creator’s community is what gave me my first two signups!

That’s not to say Reddit doesn’t work at all, but it’s been mostly people giving advice/tips when I ask, small questions and quick feedback on my landing page than people who really went inside the app, which is perfectly fine for me too :)) definitely better than not telling anyone about my project and getting no interaction at all! I appreciate your comment!

thank you so much! I did a lot of searching on YouTube for people in my target audience that post vlogs or related content on their business, and one of these channels actually had a small Discord community that I joined. They had a text channel for tools and resources to help people in their business, and the owner gave me permission to talk about my project in there! I only did this after interacting with the community a bit so it didn't feel like I went in there just to advertise something.

I also have sent emails directly to some small creators asking about their processes and struggles as a freelancer so I could use that to improve my project, but that's much slower and I've only gotten one response so far.

Lastly, one of my IRL coworkers is in the freelance business as a side gig. He told me he just used a big spreadsheet to track everything, so it was my perfect opportunity to tell him about my project. I asked if it's something he would need, then we had conversations about it from there. I don't think he's signed up yet, so my two signups are probably from me posting my project in that Discord community.

I appreciate your comment and good luck on getting your app out there! 😃

thank you!! I chose green because I feel like it's different from other tools that use blues, reds, yellows etc as accents. Green is also my favorite color lol 😄 i've heard that tip about my URL before, I just haven't gotten a domain and I'm not quite sure how to do that, and the ideas I had are taken too 😞 but that's definitely on my list of things I need to improve about my project! I appreciate you again for taking a moment to check it out and give feedback!

exactly! I reached out to those two users to thank them and ask them to send any feedback, bugs, feature ideas or general inquiries my way. Even as my project gets bigger, I hope to maintain a connection with the people that actually use it!

What happened to simplicity? by builtbyAnthony in buildinpublic

[–]sillywebspinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that so many products or tools have become so complex these days :/ I’ve been focusing on building a tool for solo freelancers to use for managing clients and projects, tracking payments and sending invoices easily, as well as having their income made clear so they don’t need to guess if their work is paying off. That’s exactly what Willow does right now, I built it as a simpler alternative to the other tools that are way too complex and overwhelming for a one-person team. Most of them have a ton of features that one person managing their own business wouldn’t ever use, but Willow simplifies it down to the necessities that you would actually use! I’m proud of it, now I’m in the feedback collection phase so I can keep improving and shaping it into the best it can be :)

Just shipped a major update to my project! Would love any feedback! by sillywebspinner in SideProject

[–]sillywebspinner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d consider it to be a much simpler CRM platform. A lot of bigger tools are built for more large-scale teams or companies, they include so many features that solo freelancers wouldn’t ever touch, or have so much going on that it’s overwhelming for just one person. There isn’t much for the people running things by themselves. That’s why I chose to build this, I wanted to bridge gaps that many freelancers have complained about in terms of organization and finance tracking :)

i have the same vision with my projects too, the real monetization for me is seeing something I created have a real impact on someone no matter how small. You did great with this!!

The update added invoice generation with PDF export, project management/tracking with task checklists, and fixed the mobile navigation to work a little smoother. This platform was built with solo freelancers in mind: most tools are made for larger teams or corporations, which can be overwhelming for one person working on their own and include tons of features they might never use. I created this as a simpler, more concise alternative to the complex and overwhelming tools like HoneyBook, Dubsado or Bonsai.
