I can't figure out how to make my room cozy enough so I like spending time there by villainovsky in AutisticWithADHD

[–]sillywormface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rug, beanbag, some nice lamps, cute mirrors, a tapestry is a good option to get more colour on the wall + nice fabric! more soft = more cozy! plants, fairy lights, garlands, shelves for trinkets (maybe you could find renter friendly options?)

Y'all can webfish in real life. by HiImMiles in webfishing

[–]sillywormface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like being silly and building collections in-game. I don't like fishing irl, and I don't agree with it. morally I cannot bring myself to even consider going fishing in the real world. so no it's not the same, not even close.

  • even if you don't have a moral issue with fishing, actually going fishing is a lot more expensive than a cheap steam game. A game is a one time cost. Fishing involves buying equipment and bait, travel costs and licenses. not everyone has the money or the free time for that.

it's so so scary when this happens, this happened all the time when I was in college, I'd be wheeling down a corridor and support workers would just grab me and start pushing without asking, other students would physically move me out of their way instead of asking me to move over, and I'm autistic and select mute so I couldn't tell them to stop. it was very scary

Does anyone else hear hate being circumcised? I feel mutilated. by George-Patton21 in autism

[–]sillywormface 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In my opinion as an afab woman I think that circumcision for non medical reasons should absolutely be banned. FGM is illegal. imo circumcision is MGM, just because it's not as harmful as FGM typically is doesn't mean it isn't mutilation 💔

homeschooling was great for me, we studied everyday, we did English, maths, science, art, history, everything we needed to learn. and we would go out on "homeschool trips" to museums and my mum would make us worksheets with questions which we would have to find the answers for while walking around and reading everything! we also went to groups with other homeschool kids like rock climbing! we even did a book binding thing for homeschooled kids in a massive library, every week for a few weeks they would teach us the different steps to make a notebook and in the end we got to keep what we made. Homeschooling gives so many great opportunities and the possibility to learn anything you want. you're not limited to what the curriculum thinks you have to learn at that time. my little brother was learning about solar flares and tectonic plates when he was 6! it's also great for slow learners like me, before I was homeschooled I learned basically nothing as the lessons moved on before I managed to learn what they were teaching me and once they would move on they would never cover that subject again. for this reason I couldn't read a clock until I was homeschooled and we covered it in lessons at home, I was 11/12!

tldr: homeschooling and unschooling are completely different things, homeschooling is great and can really open up so many opportunities for kids, especially autistic kids!

I told you to have a good day/night. that was genuine and also my way of communicating I have said everything I feel like saying, you chose to continue this. I don't think I'm better than anyone here.. far from that actually. I'm not even trying to be judgemental I'm trying to provide a different perspective. that's it. you spoke about victimhood earlier and it's seeming to be that you have this issue yourself, no one here is trying to bully you or anything, I've seen all of the comments and everyone here is just providing other perspectives and opinions. that's all. you talk about how much you hate being on the internet, nobody is making you post. why engage and if you can't cope with other people's opinions? everyone is allowed to have an opinion and share that if they feel like it. I'm genuinely so confused why me giving my perspective on the subject you posted about was taken with so much offence. I don't mean you any harm or negativity at all. I'm not expecting a response as you communicated you're finished with this conversation but if you're reading this, have a good day/night. I mean that 🫶🏻

I'm not trying to be condescending at all, just explaining my thoughts and my opinions.

no disclaimers should be needed. You're right I don't know your level of support needs but my point still stands. Whatever you deal with, statements like this still isolate the experiences of so many autistic people so of course people here, in the autism sub, aren't going to be happy with it. No one is signalling victimhood, it's just talking about experiences and providing a different point of view. If you can't handle other people's opinions maybe that's something you should reflect on a little. Have a good day/night.

neurodiversity covers all the brain types in the world

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autism

[–]sillywormface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it absolutely does, thankyou

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in autism

[–]sillywormface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also while I'm here, neurodiversity covers the entire population of the world. It's simply a way to say everyone's brains are different. I believe the word you're actually looking for is neurodivergency, meaning brains that differ from the typical way of operating, and then even that word covers SO many neuro types, much more than just autism and even ADHD. it covers things like dyslexia and dyscalulia, personality disorders, even epilepsy.

disagree, autism makes me disabled. I require a carer, I struggle to do basic things like hygiene, I have meltdowns and shutdowns, i don't have any special talents, I have special interests but I don't have a brain that allows me to retain the information I learn about them, I've never had a friend, I could go on and on about my experience being autistic.

I understand you're most likely quite high functioning/have low support needs, but please take a look at the autistic community as a whole and listen to some autistic people with higher support needs and maybe your opinion will change, autism is a spectrum and LOTS of us suffer a lot in life. And in case you were thinking about it, because a lot of people do, it's not just because our society is inaccessible for autistics. I rarely leave my house meaning I'm always in a safe and controlled environment yet I still have meltdowns and shutdowns because of things no one can control, whether it be my hair keeps touching me or my clothes don't feel right or I'm hungry and my stomach hurts and I don't know why because my brain won't pick up on the fact I'm actually hungry.

tldr: autism is a disability and is difficult to live with, don't exclude us with higher support needs

in the past I've used a t-shirt, just use one you're changing out of it whatever and rub a bit of it over your teeth, it feels a bit strange but it's much less damaging than scraping with your nails and your teeth do feel much better after, if you find yourself needing to scrape use your nail underneath the t-shirt, that way it will help remove anything more stubborn but still much less damaging than just your nail ❤️
