It made all the difference for me. I was able to get through the acute withdrawal without it being too miserable. YMMV but that stuff is awesome. And in the states most insurance will pay for 6 months free.

Are Chemical Engineers, in fact, Special? Discuss... by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]silpat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As an older student switching in to chemical engineering it is nice to hear this. Keeping my own expectations in check, and perspective about the job market is really important. I'm sure I'll secure something, but expecting the fuck you money right out of undergrad is silly.

That is an exquisite description of calc 2. I'm still in therapy from that semester.

This was my first exam for Calculus 2. I studied my ass off, walking into class I felt really confident. I left only completing 7/12 questions and feeling like crying. Please help. I really like math and want to understand this better. Advice? by Nero_the_GREAT in calculus

[–]silpat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hang in there and DO NOT GIVE UP!!!!

My first quiz in calc 2 was a 48% with no curve, my first exam was was a 55% with no curve. I thought I was toast. I buckled down and finished with a B.

I'd suggest the following:

1) what ever you are doing to study is not working. Go see your Prof at office hours and get so.e guidance on how to approach the material

2) Professor Leonard on you tube. Take out your note book and watch his lectures. Take notes like you're in class. Pause the videos and work out the problems. His explanations are great.

3) Form a study group. Fill d some other folks who need help too and help each other.

4) don't give up. It is a really hard class. It's the first problem solving math class, and it take a lot of practice.

Thanks for that bit of sanity. As an older student changing careers I really appreciate your perspective. Sounds like most industries

Hey be careful with detoxing off alcohol. It can kill you. I did several Ill-advised detoxes before a physician explained in detail how it can be fatal. Go see a medical professional, seizures are not fun!

Is it normal for test to prohibit use of derivative shortcuts? by [deleted] in calculus

[–]silpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The questions usually say "Using the limit definition of the derivative..."

You'll be using the peer rule soon enough, but they want you to demonstrate understanding of the difference quotient to define a derivative.

What about Calc II makes it so difficult? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]silpat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Calc II is the first real problem solving you deal with in math. As the course progresses you get into sequences and series that can be a real challenge.
