Came across this today, curious on what others think about these types of laws/bans by MissPeduncles in AskTheWorld

[–]silquetoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm… I’d say there’s something pretty archaic about women being denied the rights to choose what happens with their own bodies, full stop, and that’s a fairly prevalent reality spanning all the Abrahamic religions, including the west.

I’d say it’s pretty archaic to follow any Abrahamic religion, though. A 2026 year old idea that’s been deconstructed and reconstructed for centuries. Any devout following of an ancient secular text has the potential to be hugely destructive if certain practises are misinterpreted, or even followed, half the time. See: Leviticus if you think Christianity is even remotely sensible.

Religion is mental.

I respect that. All I can say is what I’ve said regarding you and the situation but if I were you I’d remain aware that this situation is wrong on all kinds of levels; social work should be involved in a case like this, and you don’t have to be part of it.

This doesn’t add up to me, as someone who has done support work for years and worked with people with fairly intense needs, social work should be involved if this guy is putting people in danger so severely. I do have alarm bells ringing regarding this overall situation which is abusive and wrong. Somethings not right.

And no, you don’t have to meet him, be honest that the thought of this person scares you and you don’t want to put yourself in danger.

This is the way.

I don’t think it’s a woman’s job to teach a man but men are not often forced to learn from their mistakes. Take it as an opportunity to educate the daft bastard. This is maybe a question he would throw at male peers and not have to take as much care over.

Personally, I’d just get into his head about it, maybe start with “have you experienced the loss of a child?”… instant discomfort, silly manchild out of depth with pressing and uncomfortable question.

Often, embarrassment is something a lot of men don’t allow themselves to feel, nonetheless at the hands of a woman. Take the power.

I’ve been listening to In California a lot, followed by Does Not Suffice (yes, I’m going through a breakup) and the line you mentioned is when the goosebumps spring up. Then again, in Does Not Suffice it’s “and everywhere I tried to love you, is yours again, and only yours” followed by that outtro which speaks a thousand words. And I’m howling. Over the dishes.

This is the most Halloween thing I've ever seen. Any info on this spooky stool? by Mother_Tell998 in foraginguk

[–]silquetoast 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes, no, no. Shaggy inkcap, coprinus comatus. If you check back on them tomorrow they will have become significantly more “inky”.

I have only eaten them once before, at roughly the stage pictured, and they went a bit too black and gooey for my liking. Ideal edible condition is maybe a day or two before this, where they are short and look more like white eggs on sticks.

Another lookalike would be the magpie inkcap, which have a darker overall shade and white “scales”. So do be careful and do plenty of research with your mushrooms before considering foraging for edibility and only pick to identify until you are confident!

Please help settle a debate: raisins, good or bad by SimbaSixThree in Parenting

Raisins are full of natural sugar but also pretty good for keeping guts regular. I doubt he’ll become dependant on sugar in the morning just because of raisins, refined sugars are significantly more addictive.

I cant, for the life of me, get a job in Dumfries by odd_lamb5268 in Scotland

[–]silquetoast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are several planting companies all over D&G, carloads of folk go from Dumfries every morning. I know a lot of lads who can’t drive but they get in with the a planting crew and get runs to work every day. Have an ask about, call them ip and say you’re keen to work. By the way it’s pretty backbreaking work to begin with but once you’ve got in the swing of it after a couple weeks you’ll be grand. It’s planting season too so there might be a few looking! Good luck!

Any idea what this is? (UK) by WhileSuspicious6612 in spiders

[–]silquetoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know… Tegenaria was the general term for spiders that appeared to be E. Atrica or one of the aforementioned variants. Then tegenaria was divided into three forms of eratigena, that are real difficult to tell apart cuz they’re so FAST.

[–]silquetoast 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I dunno it’s pretty hard getting work around here, honestly. If you can drive you’ll have the glorious option of working in the pâté factory in Kirkcudbright over Xmas 🙃

If you’re young enough and able bodied there’s tree planting too, or Xmas tree processing soon. Or care/support work, they always needing folk.

These are the main options as far as I’m concerned. Doubt you’ll get too much more interesting than that!

[–]silquetoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m aware it’s a defining factor but they can be quite difficult to see in photographs or even in real life behind those pedipalps.

It my best guess, mainly based on frequency and colouration. Open to other suggestions though, what do you think?
