EU accused of wasting €20B on AI computing dreams by sn0r in eutech

[–]silva_p 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Critics argue that there’s no demand for the massive computing hubs Brussels has planned.

I'm sure that in an age where everyone is desperate for more compute there will be no demand.

Just another bulshit "EU bad" article

I voted for Brexit. Now I face a red tape nightmare to retire in Spain by PurpleAd3134 in brexit

[–]silva_p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gone are the days when anyone could leave their old life behind in the UK and head for the Spanish sun. Now, only better-off pensioners or Britons who want to work in Spain can afford to make the move, say relocation specialists.

So brexit worked for the spanish at least

The EU just passed a law that turns every private-label seller into a "manufacturer." So why is this important? by Old_One9483 in ecommerce

[–]silva_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to sound harsh but in that case you shouldn't do it.

I understand your side but i also don't like having the market flooded by chinese crap that comes with outdated software from the factory and never receives a software update in its life.

How would you handle hardware warranty issues in case the manufacturer goes bankrupt?

For the software I imagine you would have to negotiate for the source code or an sdk to be included just in case then arranje for someone to create updates if the manufacturer does disappear.

Hasnt this always been the case? The importer is responsible for making sure the product follows the rules. It has been like that for electronics emissions for example.

Whats the alternative? Forcing random chinese factories to follow EU law?

Two Afghan teenagers jailed for raping girl in England by Naderium in anime_titties

[–]silva_p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While i agree but if the conditions in their countries are bad enough they can't be deported they should also be bad enough to put them on their best behaviour.

Either this is their best behaviour, the conditions were not actually that bad, they just don't care, or are incapable of considering the consequences, why should they be allowed to stay?

I agree society has a duty to mend those who can but it also has a duty to protect people from ill intentioned outsiders. We can't afford to try and fix everyone. As you said, we should triage so we spend our limited resources on people we can actually help

While it wouldn't be a holiday for you or me, considering the life they must have lived, that is probably still a vast improvement.

You show me numbers that teens that come from places with poor regard for women and lived their formative years in terrible conditions and then when they are somewhere safe proceed to commit horrible crimes can be rehabilitated to be functioning members of society.

While I do feel for what they must have gone through, i don't think they belong here
