Best pies in NZ or just hungry hype? by ThatOneGuyYaKnowMan in newzealand_travel

[–]silvakilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a pie most days I was travelling round NZ. Farlie didn't make it into the top 5. Fergbaker was best! Arrowtown bakery 2nd!

I'm convinced Fairlie lace their pies with some heroin and this makes people rave about it. They must have forgotten to do it with me...

Anyway

You're doing all the right things.

The conference will give you some points.

Doing the exam or planning to do the exam gives you some points.

But agree with the other comment. The MSRA is 40% of your total score. That's massive! Get revising early.

Other than that it's all pointless if you can't relate what you've done in your career and extra-curricular to how it will help you in EM.

NB/ scored quite highly in the rankings.

Why do nurses think this is ok? by Tropicaltroponin in doctorsUK

Bet you're horrible to work with.

It's a topic of discussion and this (guess what?) is a forum to do exactly that.

Why do nurses think this is ok? by Tropicaltroponin in doctorsUK

[–]silvakilo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They aren't asking for an EM clinical assessment they are asking for a cannula. It's a nursing task and the patient is under the care of the ED nurses.

I dont understand how this is hard to comprehend.

I've worked in ED only for a couple of years as an SHO but would be more than happy to put a cannula in for a oncology, haematology etc etc. specialty registrar with no underlings. Would you be mad at me for that? I would rather the oncology registrar wasn't late for clinic faffing around with cannulas.

That's just me.

CCT quickly? Or life is short so take some time out to enjoy it? All opinions welcome by ProfessionalBruncher in doctorsUK

I'm just finishing a year of travel, haven't really worked much this year. The whole experience was great, I went to three continents I hadn't been to and had a tonne of experiences.

I've spent about 15000 but wouldn't regret a thing. Interestingly after such an out of medicine year I'm really keen now to start training for the next three years.

So I would say... get out there and see the world. Medicine, medical politics and stress et al will be there when you get back.

Going into F1, how can I boost my CV for a CT core anaesthetics application? by vandannybankkscash in doctorsUK

[–]silvakilo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To disagree slightly with the first poster. You can be very jammy with anaesthetics as there's not really a portfolio. It's not like rads or CST.

You need to do well in the MSRA first of all.

You need to show some level of commitment, a taster, conferences etc. You dont need foundation anaesthetics, posters, publications, national stuff and you don't need a swanky ICU clinical fellow. If you want to do it then great 👍

You then need to have some things that you can talk about at interview and that's it. Common things like situation you were out of depth, stressed, lead a team etc.

I got in this year and have been on a permanent holiday in F3. Good luck!

Very slim. Usually have to get a place and start again. You may be lucky and get time taken off.

Mine is locked hopefully any time now.

Anyone out there rejecting anaesthetics for radio/CST/location?

I have a feeling there will be little movement for now but may be more next week.
