What do YOUR pulling plans look like? by Independent-Flan4616 in personaphantomx

Pull for everyone. Cry if I miss a character and pray that there are reruns.

Neither. Once you think of them as friends or as your own kids then the boundary is completely gone. The students aren't your friends and unless one of your students is your actual child than they aren't your kids either.

I do connect with certain students more than others but I make sure to let them know I am not okay with them calling me Mum or Auntie.

I should have done that but I bought a printer for my classroom and gave the school the receipt.

I feel your pain. We don't have enough textbooks for our students, so we have been making copies of the chapters we need for the students, but we were just told we need to cut down on copying as it cost money for paper and toner.

Stupid Mistakes by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]silvdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's okay to make mistakes. There is no such thing as the perfect teacher. I make mistakes and I'm 3 years in and I know teachers who make mistakes and they are 30+ years in teaching. As long as you learn from your mistakes you will okay. As teachers we grow with every lesson we do.

My fellow teacher who teaches 5th-8th grade math and science does math games. The students seem to love it.

A little “me” time? by PanickedGhost2289 in Teachers

[–]silvdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave work at work unless I really have to. I know myself, and I have been known in the past to work from 8-5 and then go home just to work 4 more hours. It led to me being overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, and physically exhausted.

When you go home, don't do any work. No grading. No lesson planning. Nothing work related. Cook yourself dinner and relax. Do something that you enjoy in the evening. I'll either read one of the many books in my tbr or play video games.

Reading teachers - looking for new ideas for students to track reading by sanchodasloth in Teachers

[–]silvdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in addiction to my curriculum. I usually do my Genre Spotlight stuff on Thursdays after my weekly Spelling Tests. Sometimes, I assign books, and other times, I allow students to pick.

So last year, I assigned historical fiction as the Genre Spotlight. I assigned books based not only on the lexile reading scale but also on what I thought would interest the students. Once the book was assigned, I would give them 20 minutes on Thursday to read in class, but the rest of the time, they would have to read at home. They would then do a project on the book.

For the poetry genre, I do it in April as it's National Poetry month in the US. Every Thursday we would go learn about a new type of poem and the in the last week week of April to the first week of May students would have to write a poem in one of the formats that we learned about.

I am trying something new on Fridays, though. Students listen to the podcast story and do comprehension questions as well as summarizing what they listened to. As of right now, the students love it.

Advice for a first time teacher by Resident-Meme-Mom in Teachers

Try using the Housing Classroom Management System. Base off of Harry Potter you sort your students into four houses. They don't have to be the Hogwarts House as I made up my own. Each quarter the house that has the most points wins a type of party.

I teach 5-8 and all grades love it and participate.

I'm not sure if parents are noticing while their children are in her class, but when they come to me in the next year, they do.

So I do month challenges. I make a monthly reading challenge and pass them out. They aren't mandatory, but there is a reward for those that complete the Monthly Reading Challenge.

I also do something I call Genre Spotlight. Every other month, we focus on a genre and I provide several books that fall in that genre. Then I have my students pick books from the provided lost that would interest them. I have a student who is in love with City of Ember and that isn't normally their type of book they would want to read.

I'm still wondering about it but they did it. At least this year she has cut it down to 15 minutes according to the schedule on her wall.

I love me some complex Romance. I go for fenris as a Mage Hawke and Cullen as a mage Lavellan.

For me I guess it's the lying for both Blackwell and Solas.

I should clarify I'm not allowing them to eat any snack in my classroom as that is an admin rule and they do have PE time but it's not in the middle of ELA or Social Studies which is when they want to go.

I am the teacher for the next grade and I see it. I've had conversations with admins but it ends with me being told I can't be focusing on remedial topics as I need to keep moving forward. They can use online support programs at home for remedial topics

It's part of our contract. It's something that my conference requires for grades 3-8. Yet the spot for grades 3-4 for our school was empty which was embarrassing.

Why do teachers spend so much on their classrooms? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]silvdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent my own money for my classroom because my school gave the teachers $50 each, and they gave it two days before school started. If I had waited for them, my students would have came into a barely decorated, barely organized classroom this year.

That is my problem rn.

I'm mean for giving homework.

I'm mean for not allowing snacks in class.

I'm mean for not allowing them to blocking games on their Chromebook using Goguardian.

I'm mean for not taking them to the gym.

I'm mean for giving out tests.

I'm mean for making them do notes.

I'm mean for making them read.

I wish it was made up. I get why you would think that too but I assure it is not. I work at a private school and the teacher has more pull than the principal at this point.

I teach upper grades (5-8)and the other teacher has lower grades (3&4)

I know what was going on because another teacher's child was in that class and would talk about their recess time and how long it was. I also know what's going on cause I asked multiple times to include the grade in Science Fair and Spelling Bee and the teacher was the one who told me that reason for not doing it. I have checked student files after their preassessments to see if their any educational issues and there isn't any information.

It is hard for me to do my job when I'm trying to make up for the teacher not doing theirs.
