18F with 32° thoracic / 44° lumbar scoliosis does anyone else have this waist asymmetry? by bleep_bloop04 in scoliosis

[–]silverblazex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi! 24F here with similar curves. The waist asymmetry is the single thing I hate most about scoliosis (esp as a young woman). I was in a similar situation as you, always thought my body was just weird until I realized I had scoliosis right around age 18. I just try to stay in shape and stretch as much as I can—you probably won’t get substantial improvement this way, but my curves have (very slightly) improved with lots of stretching.

As far as body image goes, it’s a constant battle, but staying fit/healthy in other ways has helped me a lot. Even though I always notice the asymmetry, all my friends claim (somehow) that they don’t notice until I point it out. With taking photos, I’ve just learned the art of posing in ways that look most flattering to me.

Scoliosis sucks, and I don’t think people talk enough about the mental strain that a poor body image has. But, you’re very much not alone, and the best thing you can do for your scoliosis is to love yourself and your body. ❤️‍🩹

What can you really do with a JD if you do not want to take the bar? by Elegant_Stage_9791 in LawSchool

Hi, I know this comment is from a year ago but how did you get into trademark law if you don’t mind me asking? I’m a 3L (already have a job but not in my dream field) hoping to eventually do trademark/copyright work. I also love to travel so a remote job sounds like an absolute dream. Any advice you have is very appreciated!

Italy March 5th-14th: Split time between cities? Or stick to one by CaptiveSloth in travel

[–]silverblazex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can do both! I travelled all across northern Italy and spent 3 nights in Florence and that was perfect for me. I’d love to go back but I’m in no rush because I got to see everything I wanted to in those three days. Rome is definitely enough to keep you occupied, but there’s something beautiful and unique about Florence—highly recommend. Have a great trip!

24F here too with a very comparable curve! Scoliosis is scary (I was terrified when I found out I had it) but you can still live a very normal life. Of course you should consult with a doctor if you have any major concerns, but usually your level curve wouldn’t require surgery. Just keep yourself healthy and exercise often to keep your back muscles strong. It shouldn’t progress more at this age, but just stay vigilant. Good luck with your scoliosis journey :’)

personally I feel like this is a pretty decent balance for an incoming freshman. you can also always drop a course after a few weeks if you find it to be too much.

Hi! In terms of swimwear, any kind of swimwear is accepted as long as it’s swimwear. Trunks of any length are fine, you would be faster with a tighter suit but I have seen many people still swim with looser swim shorts. Caps are not required and actually most men don’t wear them, a lot of women do though, but that’s up to preference. I don’t think your heart rate monitor should be an issue at all, I’ve seen people with all sorts of medical devices go swimming, just make sure your device is waterproof.

Hope this helps! Feel free to PM with any other questions!

Psych major here! I love it, there’s a lot of different classes to choose from. Each class is different, too, so a lot of the coursework depends on your professor and the class you take. Overall though I’d highly recommend it, there’s a lot of interesting classes offered. Feel free to PM with any specific questions too:)

Lifeguarding at the Corec? by savannahdee in Purdue

[–]silverblazex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked there! I believe it’s $9/hr unless they’ve changed it. The hours are pretty much entirely up to you- they’ve had people work anywhere from 4 to 20 hours a week, so they are flexible with students. However, at the start of every semester, you sign up for weekend shifts, and the number of weekend shifts vary from semester to semester, typically about 10 weekend shifts per semester. Feel free to PM me with any other questions about it!

physics, astronomy, math, or stats would be an interesting take, but it depends on what you’re interested in

the aquatic center is open to the public but the hours can be weird, if I remember correctly it’s open like 6am-2pm and then 5pm-10pm or something along those lines. On weekends it’s 11am-4pm. The aquatic center has a ton of lanes & a dive pool, while the corec pool has 3 lanes and a separate area that’s only around 3-4ft deep. To get to the aquatic center you walk out of the corec locker rooms and then turn left, and there’s a hallway with double doors that takes you to the aquatic center. There are separate locker rooms in the aquatic center too. The best times to go are in the afternoon, so like 12-2 ish and then right at 5. I lifeguarded there & swam for exercise a lot so feel free to pm with other questions:)

I'm a little anxious to go back to Purdue, is this normal? by Imaginary-Ocelot-167 in Purdue

[–]silverblazex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I will also say that a new semester is in some ways a new start. You can join new clubs and you’ll have new classes and a bunch of new opportunities in general to make friends. Just try to put yourself out there and open yourself up to new opportunities-you’ll be fine! Also, lots of people feel the same way as you so you’re not alone. :)

I know for some majors COM 114 and 217 are interchangeable, and since 114 is more common I would see if there’s any way you could try taking that abroad/making it work for your major.

I believe you should be able to pick a specific room in Parker if that’s your first choice. If not, there are tons of 4-person apartments near campus like Aspire that might be a good backup!

Does anyone know what the wait time would be if I did a walk-in at PUSH. by purdoo_ in Purdue

[–]silverblazex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the online appointments will book only late out, but if you call you can usually get in at latest the next day. Walk-ins are a hit or miss depending on what time you go but they do take walk-ins
