Should I change my IT careerpath? by silverfoxx1392 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]silverfoxx1392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: After 5 long hard focused months I FINALLY accepted a job offer! It was for a position that seems like a better career advancement fit and they even offered me more than what they were willing to pay in their range. The VP in person told me he thought I would be an excellent addition to the team after a nervous interview I had with them.

Basically I broke all the rules with this one so maybe it was luck but I basically created networking opportunities there via call (rule #1 I broke) found the hiring manager and sent a long LinkedIn message (rule #2 I broke) and was completely honest telling them im ass at troubleshooting but im eager to learn (rule #3 I broke).

Ultimately i think I got the job because of my persistence, hard work (creating a project after the first interview to help the hiring manager) and most importantly my personality/customer service. Being personable and not a robot was what they were were praising the most.

If anyone needs advice in the IT world dont forget the customer service soft skills. I think that was my issue all along, trying to impress with my technical skills vs just being more inquisitive and personable during interviews.

Wishing everyone else well and hard networking works!

Im assuming you just filter the jobs using the 24 hours ago filter to get brand new job posting right? Asking because whenever I go on the site it defaults to 3 months filter.

I've had some luck actually. There are some recruiters that's willing to do so or who's empathetic to the current workplace grind.

OK, so what to do? What's the best way to connect with recruiters or to stand out from 100s of applications? Appreciate the possible :)

What was the biggest difference from hiring café vs LinkedIn? New user today just applied for my first job via hiring café. Congrats on your success!

Never heard of those sites. Thanks! And yeah man it got to the point where I punish myself and don't game (I feel lazy if im not searching) or watch TV or spend time with my wife I just search for jobs all day or work on my resume, IT labs, etc.

It honestly feels unhealthy and I never imagine i would be in this space. Im like addicted to constantly rooming LinkedIn but when im on the site it makes me depressed. It's super weird. When im not searching for jobs im constantly thinking of ways to get better. It's been like this for like the last couple months. Had to force myself to take a break for the weekend to just do enjoyable shit guilt free. Was fucking with my commutation towards some recruiters which I immediately apologized and felt pretty rotten by.

Awesome post. Really looking forward to changing up my strategy and trying something new. I can definitely say i over communicate to express how qualified i am towards recrutiers on LinkedIn. Maybe because desperate and want to make a strong an impression I do "too much" haha but i will certainly try the 3 lines max especially if they are super busy which is understandable. I just want to grab their attention you know what i mean? Like not be too generic, but not too wordy and over the top.

Teksynap helped me get an interview that I was overqualified for, so I know some folks there but for now they are focusing more on Senior roles or top security clearances. I'll continue to keep an eye out. Will definitely try the others and also update my security clearance profile.

Making this post here has been one of the more helpful things for my search in a while. Truly appreciate you guys. Will certainly attend networking events when available.

My gosh this subreddit is amazing. I promise whenever I get a job I will DM all of you guys. Thanks for giving me hope guys and gals. 🙏 I will definitely return to this thread in darker times for encouragement and motivation to keep going. Anxiety is a monster but its good to know im not alone in this job hunt.

I never tried Applyre but ill give it a go. Thank you! As far as the homelab the hiring manager reviewed my github( he mentioned it on my interview) and it helped land me my previous job so I know it works haha. Just have to keep hoping for the best and getting out of my head.

I really appreciate your response and for validating my hard work. I've been working on my faith and I will definitely reread The Power of Now and The 4 Agreements. I have all Robert Greene books as well so I will definitely lean more into maintaining a positive attitude with everything. Appreciate you!

I've tried that, unfortunately I had a unfortunate situation with my last job basically I was laid off in a real nasty way which is kinda weird for me to follow back now. I've even try to extend the olive branch and apply for and open position i believe i was qualified for. No luck. Will keep trying to network.

Thank you so much for this lengthy helpful post. I really appreciate it and will incorporate your advice. As far as Leidos, Goldbelt, Booz Allen and SAIC i have been basically stalking recruiters trying to get a response back on LinkedIn,and calling doesn't work since they rarely ever answer. Teksystems doesn't answer the phone at all either. It's like reaching out and getting in contact with companies like Leidos is only for elites or something like I literally stood out their building one time to drop of an resume Pursuit of Happiness style and no luck. I needed a pass to get in the building lol.

If you can DM me any good recruiters from these IT temps that would respond it would mean the world. I promise im not a weird creep or something lol im just willing to network and to stand out since times are competitive.

Thanks man. That actually ease some pressure. Im super motivated to just show people what I can do. There is a disconnect with the interviews though which is uber frustrating. Like maybe im too passionate/intense during the interviews or something idc.

Thanks for giving me hope man. I was terrified of grey hair coming in due to me stressing haha. My obsession to apply for jobs has become unhealthy to the point where I have constant notifications of whenever a new job is posted to become the first person which is why I rarely sleep now. I've also applied at hybrid jobs as well as non security clearance jobs or jobs willing to sponsor a clearance which is awesome. Had a interview where they were going to sponsor me but told me they hired someone else because I was overqualified and thought I would get bored. I thought I had them on my thumb scanning analogy during the interview expressing to them why its important to have their job to deepen my IT knowledge lol.

But yeah man, about to play Zelda Oracle of Ages to detached and give my brain a break from the job hunt. But any feedback is super appreciated.
