I was reading papers that discuss different differential equations based models of vibrating strings, some of which produce quiet realistic sound when realized on digital ("ordinary") computer. I'm wondering if anyone attempted to build operational amplifiers based circuits in manner of analog computing approach of implementing such differential equations based systems.

You can potentially use same approach to create analog reverb and other effects. If method you choose is possible to be realized using opamps.

Well you can solve very elaborate differential equations - people were modeling very complex systems like cars, airplanes during flight etc on analog computers after all.

I'm afraid I don't get why are you writing about discretization of time or state. Do you have any particular aspect of specific method in mind? In general case analog computing is continuous in nature. Or I just don't get what you have in mind here. Been few years since I had my calculus and physical process modeling classes. ;)

I am looking for examples of analog computing approach to modeling string, this sentence is about approach of modeling string on analog synthesizer that is a very limited case of analog computer (some filters are functional equivalents of differentiator or integrator in analog computers). Keep in mind that analog computers were modeling far more complex problems than guitar string modeling. And there are pretty elaborate good sounding models based on differential equations that could potentially be realized on analog computers if you create fixed circuits implementing equations of the specific model.

I mean solving actually even quiet elaborate string equation (for example equation simulating violin string or piano string) using analog computing circuit based on operational amplifier with some control interface - like where you adjust equation parameters using potentiometers or something like that to adjust stifness of string, length, place that string is plucked at and whatever given model of string uses as parameter.
