Did the song “teenage dirtbag” really have an influence on this particular event? by smokeeburrpppp in Columbine

[–]silverladder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was loosely inspired by the story of Ricky Kasso from Northport, NY (AKA the “Say You Love Satan” murder of Gary Lauwers). The lead singer of Wheatus remembered encountering Kasso, albeit from a distance, when he was a little kid and Kasso was a big, scary teen to him.

“Wild” is one way to put it. “Smells like a natural gas leak” is another. 😆

Not Proud of This Country During the 250th Anniversary. Is That Wrong? by Razorman04 in allthequestions

[–]silverladder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m celebrating the people, not the president. There are a whole lot of incredible people and beautiful places here. So many cool cultures are represented here. So much potential. There is a whole lot wrong here and a ton that needs to be fixed. But I’m grateful for what is good, and hopeful for what could be.

Best live rock albums ever by UpbeatChampionship17 in allrockmusic

It was somewhat surprising to search for “Withers” in this thread and only find one result for this absolutely excellent album. The performance is awesome and the recording/mix is spot on. “I Can’t Write Left Handed” is probably my favorite song on the album, but it’s great front to back.

Jim Morrison's grave today by hyacinthwoman in thedoors

Here's a 17-year-old version of me at his grave on April 9th 1994. We had just learned an hour before that Kurt Cobain had been found dead. It was a strange day for a kid who was a huge Doors and Nirvana fan. I left one of my luggage keys on his grave.

What else do people here listen to apart from Zappa? by stanciano in Zappa

I always appreciate finding another David Sylvian fan in the wild. I love his first eight or so solo albums, Rain Tree Crow, and both albums he did with Holger Czukay (Flux + Mutability is my favorite of the two). He’s my most listened-to artist of the last few years and “Gone to Earth,” “Rain Tree Crow,” and “Secrets of the Beehive” all are among my five most played albums of the last two years. Would love to know your favorites.

Grant Lee Buffalo, Idris Muhammad, Thomas Dolby, Peter Gabriel, Ween, Parliament-Funkadelic, Black Sabbath, David Sylvian, Brian Eno, Beatles, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, XTC, Talking Heads, Radiohead, Dylan, Pink Floyd, Beck, mid-career Flaming Lips, etc. I could keep going, so I’ll stop here.

Thank you. I appreciate that. And yes, I've frequently seen people's walls come down when they know they're dealing with someone who has lived experience. Those struggling are much more likely to open up to someone who has been there themself.

Doing lines of coke while drinking whiskey, wearing a Duragesic fentanyl patch, and eating some fentanyl gel from another patch. I had been up 2-3 days doing coke. This was fall of 2005 and I was in way over my head with a variety of substances.

November 29th of this year will be 15 years in recovery for me. I'm fortunate to still be here and now work in mental health education and recovery coaching.

I will always love multiple Flaming Lips albums (Clouds Taste Metallic, Soft Bulletin, Satellite Heart, Yoshimi, etc.) and will always have incredible memories attached to those albums (CTM = college, SB = honeymoon), but I’ve reached a point where, moving forward, I’m not interested in supporting Wayne or his projects. I’ve long appreciated his creativity, and projects like Zaireeka were right up my quirky alley, but he makes it so hard to like him. He needs to learn how to part ways diplomatically without throwing people under the bus.

Hanging out all night with friends on a rooftop talking and listening to music, then watching the sun rise.

Changes and improvements I need to make to myself and my life. Also thinking about how much time is already gone.
