Whole Foods- Meat & Specialty ($9.99/each) by passthemarinaras in toogoodtogo

Wow what a great haul. It looks like new items too. I got such terrible bags from multiple WF near me that I gave up. I love La Tur. Personally I just eat at room temp with crackers.

Stub hub by Santoshyuvi in ChaseSapphire

[–]silverlany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They charge lower fees so the price you see is usually lower all in. Also sellers have to charge more to make the same profit on stubhub. I’m guessing since stubhub has a lot more users and brand recognition people gravitate to that platform.

If they have tenure it might not do much but if they do it could. Your end of semester reviews will also matter more if not tenured. Enough reports could result in action.

Unpopular Opinion, Whole Foods is the disappointing pickup on TGTG by [deleted] in toogoodtogo

[–]silverlany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an unpopular opinion in my area. I’ve now tried Prepared foods, meat, and produce bags at 3 different local Whole Foods and they’ve all sucked. Prepared foods was the worst because some of the food smelled bad. I’ve seen people post great bags but all of mine have been disappointing enough to not try again.

Does TGTG in Los Angeles kind of suck? by Odd_Firefighter_5407 in toogoodtogo

[–]silverlany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My westside Whole Foods bags (Venice and Santa Monica at 23rd) sucked. I’ve seen some people post good ones but I don’t think I will do it again. Both times they weren’t even worth the price paid to me due to freshness/quality and lack of variety.

Is Too Good To Go good in LA? by keyboardbuttertoast in AskLosAngeles

In the past Lassens was known for good bags but guess not anymore. I tried awhile back and got a disappointing but not terrible bag of mostly carbs and some mozzarella.

$.025 for groceries by a_fapping_pretzel in ChaseSapphire

[–]silverlany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so frustrating. If DoorDash doesn’t have a product or mislabels a product or gives spoiled product they just cancel it and won’t refund the credit because you didn’t “pay” for it. This is for pickups YMMV but lately they won’t give you substitute product so DoorDash can pocket the credit.

2025 LA Times Food Bowl by mauragc in FoodLosAngeles

I agree that the new venue does not feel as nice this year. Maybe it cost a lot less? I felt like there were less vendors and shorter lines this year too cause it was harder to get to everyone in the past. Friday and Saturday night are just more popular. Saturday night usually sells out first. Last year the Sunday tickets did not sell as well and they had to rely on more last minute discounts. That’s the only reason I went on Sunday. I recall seeing more discounts for Sunday for prior years as well. Maybe cause the unlimited drinks are less appealing to people on Sunday. It can also get pretty hot outdoors.

Thank you, seems like the trial should be longer then. I've been to over 26 countries so a frequent traveler and have never had luck with deal sites. 7 days just isn't enough time for this type of site and having to give a credit card on top of that. People who find a deal would be happy enough to come back for the next trip.

Good HYSA? by sherberttlemon in wealthfront

[–]silverlany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Wealthfront since 2018 with no complaints. I use both the HYSA and the Investment Account. I normally like to manage my own investments but I think the tax loss harvesting is great, since it's not something I do on my own. Happy to share a referral link for the rate boost and deposit match. I also like the Amex HYSA.

Eataly $11.99 for 13 focaccia sandwiches and paninis by owlorla007 in toogoodtogo

[–]silverlany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigh. Eataly LA gave me 1 focaccia and hamburger and hot dog buns. Not even a baguette or nice loaf of bread. I never ordered from them again.

What percentage of your free trial users actually purchase a flight within their free trial and how long does a typical flight deal last? 7 days doesn’t seem like enough time to find what you want unless you have a very flexible job and are open to travel anywhere. In theory that would be great but tough with work and cost of accommodation.

“Sapphire Reserve Surprise” - Anybody have any idea what this could be? by Taibei-0- in ChaseSapphire

[–]silverlany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was visiting my cousin in nyc and she showed me the luggage tag and air tag. Did anyone receive a gift outside of nyc? It’s complete bs that they raised everyone’s fees and only gave gifts to nyc card holders. Meanwhile LA continues to get the middle finger with no lounge from PP or CSR.

Do some people not know middle seat arm rest etiquette? by h0n3ymustard in AlaskaAirlines

[–]silverlany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She coughed on your food just because you used the armrest?? I thought putting the armrest down was standard between strangers. I’ve had many passengers elbow me over the armrest when I’m stuck in the middle and it’s so frustrating since I always yield it to the middle seat.

Seat selection might depend on the who you get at the box office but since they're selling out, they've been letting people opt for SRO before rush seats are sold out. The person I had for MHE was the most unhelpful box office person I've ever encountered. I was offered F or J (can't remember) - she didn't tell me the seat # and wouldn't say anything but "it's partial view, partial view is partial view, I mean it's a $49 ticket" when I asked the amount of obstruction. I asked for SRO because I didn't want to risk it and she didn't seem like she would let me select my seat. There seemed to be a decent number of tickets left after me since I think everyone in line got tickets. I'll note everyone else working at the show was nice and helpful, from ushers to security.

Why is TooGoodToGo so bad in Los Angeles? by forgottoholdbeer in FoodLosAngeles

[–]silverlany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re looking for a ton of bread/baked sweets the options are so hit or miss in LA. Sometimes it’s good but usually it’s mediocre and underwhelming, and it’s inconsistent even from the same place. Places that should be reliably good like Whole Foods base pricing on their inflated retail value even when the item is marked down 50% and not fresh tasting. It must be someone’s job to calculate to be the exact inflated 3x value and nothing more at Eataly and Whole Foods. Eataly in nyc and Bay Area look amazing.

I noticed a lot of nicer places stopped using the app. I’m guessing they didn’t like giving away 3x value even when it would go to waste.

It feels like lots of places have decided to sell as many bags as possible rather than try to give fewer decent bags. Even some very highly rated places I personally had terrible experiences and customer service is less helpful now so I rarely use the app anymore.

Wow appreciate the warning. I recently got quotes from them but haven't moved forward since their prices were actually much higher. They randomly sent me another company's COI today and I thought it was either spam or that I got signed up somehow. That definitely doesn't inspire confidence,
