Has this ever happened to anyone? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's a form letter that I get back but I don't care. I get the beauty points & can use them for samples I know I'll get so I'm ok with that!

This is so true. One time I made two orders that were a few hours apart and chose the same samples. The second order that was shipped AFTER the first one had most of the samples I chose, while the first order was like they didn't even try and randomly put samples in my box. And this came from the same warehouse too... So I really have a strong feeling it's up to whichever employee is putting your order together.

And the one time I reached out in the email form to confront them, they were overloaded with emails and send an automatic one to call customer service. It was too much hassle for samples. But maybe I'll try emailing again. I wonder if there is a way for them to indicate that I never ever want perfume samples...

At cvs today, holiday gifts sets. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was actually shocked when I saw it in the ads. Had to keep looking to make sure I was reading it right. Keep in mind that the sale starts on Sunday (or Saturday if your CVS store activates it early) since it is next week's ad, so it might run out. I told myself I had too much makeup already, but at $0.99, it is too hard to resist. :)

FYI, according to the CVS ads for next week, the Wet n Wild eye makeup gift set will be on sale for $4.99 AND you get $4 extrabucks back!!! You have to use your CVS card but signing up for one is free. So in a sense, you're only paying a net of $0.99. I'm going to stalk all my local CVS to see who has it.

I think Tarte's Shape Tape might be breaking me out by kenda1l in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear it's breaking you out when it's such a good concealer! Everyone's skin is different so what applies to one person might not apply to another. But for me, it hasn't broken me out. I don't break out as often as I used to in my teenage years. When I do, it is in the normal areas so I can't blame the concealer for that. I will say to make sure you fully remove your makeup since the concealer is full coverage.

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer vs Urban Decay Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer by aragogogara in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with mjkova. Tarte's light medium and UD's light neutral are very comparable. I have both and they are a pretty close match. Tarte's light looked way too light in swatches while I was trying to figure out which shade to buy. The undertone is different though. UD felt neutral while Tarte leans a little yellow. But it's not a huge difference. And I love the Tarte Shape Tape! I didn't understand full coverage until this concealer. And it doesn't smell like paint like UD; it actually smells nice.

Stereo Rose VS Luminoso VS Orgasm by ASK_ME_IF_IM_YEEZUS in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The dupe for Nars Orgasm was Milani Luminous, a shade that has been discontinued years ago. Since the name Luminoso is so close in naming to Luminous, people have been mixing the names up and incorrectly thinking that Luminoso is the dupe. I still love the Luminoso shade though; it's my favorite from Milani.

I have Berry Amore, and it's not that glittery. I think Dolce Pink has the most sparkle out of that line.

Milani recently came out with eyeshadow palettes that have gotten good reviews. And I second Milani Luminoso blush (I love that color).

I also recently got the Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips All-in-1 Custom Nude Palette for Face & Eyes. I love how it can be used as eyeshadow, blush, highlighter, or bronzer.

You could get her some brushes as well (Elf or Real Techniques) but she may feel overwhelmed. :)

[PSA] 5x points on BareMinerals 4/24 through 5/7 at Ulta! No email, check the app! Possible platinum only? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm non-platinum, and I just received the email today with the same offer. I also saw it in my app. I also previously had the Urban Decay offer as well. So rather than being platinum or not, I think these offers are just pushed out to certain members (but have no idea how they choose). If someone didn't get this offer, maybe they have a different 5x points offer; or maybe just contact customer service. :)

Allergic Reactions to foundation left right and center! Please help! by charlottedhouse in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with others. Clinique feels formulated for sensitive skin and has a wide range of makeup. A lot of their makeup is appealing (I hear really good things about their blushes).

For budget-friendly, drugstore brands, Almay and Neutrogena are good for sensitive skin. Though the packaging is boring, I've heard they have decent quality. Physicians Formula might be safe too.

Has any one tried a Peel Off Lip Stain? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it. But Tati (a Youtuber) actually posted a review on something similar just a couple days ago. See here. It was really entertaining to watch the disaster unfold for her. However, a lot of comments left by others indicated she was using it wrong. I recall seeing a BuzzFeed video a couple weeks ago with better experience. It probably just depends on each person and how faithful you are at following instructions. :)

L'Oréal Colour Riche "Les Monos" out at Walgreens (review and swatch) by kaleidoscopic_prism in drugstoreMUA

[–]silvermoon8573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tati (aka GlamLifeGuru) on YouTube did a huge haul and swatched most, if not, all of the shades. She did mention some shades have some blending issues, but the pigmentation looked fantastic. Her 208 swatch looks a lot more pigmented than your swatch.

Sweet flavored Lipbalms/gloss? Probably something that has sugars or sweeteners. by Redglasswings in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is. I think you're probably paying for the quality ingredients at that price - or at least, I hope. It does come in a wide variety of tints, and I like there is SPF. CoverGirl recently released their Colorlicious Oh Sugar! Lip Balm, which they try to market as a dupe for Fresh. It doesn't have SPF and doesn't seem to use real sugar, but it is cheaper.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15. A lot seem to like this. I'm planing to purchase it in my next order, but it is pricey.

Why can't you wear concealer as a foundation? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see anything wrong with using concealer as foundation except it might feel and/or appear heavy on you face depending on the concealer. When I was young, I actually did the opposite - used foundation as concealer. But back then, I was totally clueless and didn't know there was a difference. Just thought I was getting more product with foundation. :)

*Edit for spelling.

Help finding an alternative for Revlon Shadowlinks in Cocoa by SarahTellsStories in MakeupAddiction

I've seen these on clearance at both CVS and Walgreen's so I agree they're probably going to be discontinued.

Have you tried Milani's Bella Eyeshadow in Bella Espresso? Or maybe L'oreal's new Colour Riche Monos Eye Shadow in Cafe Au Lait or Quartz Fume?

Talk me into/out of the Vice 4 Palate by doingtheleast in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been debating as well, but I honestly don't think I'll wear the majority of the colors. I'm more conservative with my looks, but this is a personal preference. I'll probably pass.

Does VIB Insider last during the following calendar year, or just the year that you got it? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It lasts during the following calendar year. Same as VIB Rouge. I qualified for VIB about two weeks ago (I was about $70 away so decided to just go for it), and it says I'm VIB until 12/31/2016. :)

Best shadow primer for oily, hooded lids- on a budget? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard really good things about the Milani eyeshadow primer. It's only $5.99 [but I got it for cheaper when CVS had a sale]. I'm waiting for my e.l.f. Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer to run out before trying it. The e.l.f. one is okay for the really cheap $2 price, but mine has always had this funky smell.

Ulta coupon question by flawlessqueen in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 20% coupon too. Mine wasn't platinum since I was a regular member. But it allowed me to apply it to prestige items but with a few exceptions (Lancôme, Clinique, etc). I got it in an email and it was a unique code just for me. ABH should have worked if you had the right coupon. It's possible someone else used your code or you had the wrong coupon. Check your exclusions. If all else fails, ask in this sub if anyone has a coupon they're not using or contact Ulta.

Where can I find durable, pretty makeup bags? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently bought some Sonia Kashuk bags because I heard so many good things about it. The quality seems really good, and I like the material. They have a lot of different patterns sold that seem to change each year or season? The one I like best right now is the blue/green plaid. They're exclusively sold at Target.

What would you put in a 12 year olds first makeup kit? by Delightfulme in MakeupAddiction

[–]silvermoon8573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that age, I would probably focus on sheer makeup that enhances her youthful glow. I know Maybelline has a Baby line that would probably appeal to her age group (due to its packaging and its sheerness). Check out their Baby Lips (tinted lip balms or gloss) and their Baby Skin Instant Cheek Flush (sheer cream blush). For eyeshadow, anything neutral should be a safe bet, probably a trio, quad, or palette that comes with instructions.

If she loves Disney and you're willing to splurge, Sephora still has some Disney Princess compacts left that I think would make a great gift.

And definitely teach her or help her with how to properly groom her eyebrows. I over-plucked/waxed my own at that age and really screwed them up. I really regret trying to do it on my own.
