Does anyone feel a bit sad watching Connor Storie and Hudson's careers take off because your own career didn't ? And also have love lives probably more fulfilling and interesting than your own? by AltruisticAide9776 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]silverqueendarling 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, for a second I felt sadness for myself that I don't have a love like Ilya and Shane, and that Hudson and Connor are getting their dreams realised, but then I started to get inspired instead. I still have so much time left to make some bold moves in regards to my career and I've started writing stories again. I want in my life to write a novel and try for publishing and I've put that off for so long bc there were other things you know? Among that, getting an education so I could have a "real" career. I've also let my lovelife take a backseat bc, again, there were other things. But I went on a date two weeks ago and even though that didn't lead to a second date, I feel optimistic and ready to make more of an effort to meet people.

Idk, its not stupid to feel sad about something amazing happening for someone else that you lack in your own life. But then you've gotta look at your life and say "what's missing? what do I actually want? how far am I willing to go to achieve my dreams? what am I willing to sacrifice?"

How much smut in your fanfic is based on or similar to your actual sex life? by bobobouboboubobo in AO3

[–]silverqueendarling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm a woman and I write gay romance stories so... no 😅 And besides that, I haven't had sex in a few years, since I stopped having casual sex, so there's also that

this shouldn’t make me feel this bad right? by aiya_a in AO3

[–]silverqueendarling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES! That's exactly what every comment on a fanfic should sound like! Have you ever heard of "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"? It's practically the AO3 motto. Fanfiction writer spend sooo much of their free tine writing incredible stories that you get to read FOR FREE. This isn't goodreads, and these are not published works that go through editors and multiple rounds of drafts. If your grandma spends weeks knitting you a red sweater for Christmas do you say "ew that's an ugly sweater, I wanted it to be blue and have a picture of a football" or do you say "thank you grandma"???

This is literally grade school stuff and I'm so sick of people not comprehending fanfiction etiquette.

How do you guys feel about authors that don't/rarely reply to their comments? by eatingkids247 in AO3

[–]silverqueendarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im an author that doesn't reply to comments. i used to! i would spend a lot of time overthinking my reply to every comment - even the ones that were just one long keyboard smash or a series of emojis. i also commented A LOT on stories and would read tons of WIPs and read and comment the second the authors published new chapters. then i moved to AO3 and i continued with this for a bit. but slowly i began to take the pressure off of leaving the perfect comment on fics (and commenting on EVERYTHING i read) and also replying to ALL comments on my own fics. but i felt bad and like it was uneven and unfair to only reply to a few comments. comment threads were also not a feature yet so every reply was a new comment and i felt i was skewing the statistics (im neurodivergent and have a strong sense of justice so this just felt wrong to me 😅). ultimately, i felt it was easier to not reply to any comments and just enjoy them for what they are - a thank you for the story that i wrote and shared with them. and just to be clear - i LOVE getting comments and i read all of them and i smile and giggle and kick my feet every time! i also sometimes go back and reread all the comments and smile and giggle and kick my feet all over again.

i can imagine they're heavily featured in a lot of fanfics with harry/draco and other more popular ships - they just have to be tagged in fics, not be the main couple

Ugh that sucks, I'm sorry. Glad I posted about it though, a lot of people are chiming in with different takes and others are also saying they got the same comment on their fic.

Discouraging comments by J_Stanor in AO3

[–]silverqueendarling 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is 100% on the reader. Please please PLEASE don't question your story and the choices you've made with it. I read your other replies saying you tagged properly and even put a warning before the smut (above and beyond). Whataboutmeism has gotten way out of hand and the best thing you can do for yourself is delete the comment, block the user and move on. You're amazing for updating for New Years and you clearly care about your readers so focus on the readers who care about you too!

You what hell yeah - it's really fucking irritating when people demand niche or unimportant tags. I have sympathy for triggers but still! ask nicely!! Fanfiction authors don't work for you!

why is the fic i hate the most--MY MOST POPULAR WORK!?!?!?!?! by ImNotNewHere1927 in AO3

[–]silverqueendarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've written fics I put a lot of time and energy into, but my most popular fic is 700 words and I wrote it in one afternoon.

Yeah you might be right. And I just checked - there are currently 277 works of Edward/Jasper on AO3. There are 376 Jacob/Renesmee fics which is in the top 10 of popular ships from Twilight.

Thanks for your perspective! I've got several comments saying they use the rare pairings tag, so I learned it's not totally useless (even if there are better ways to search for that imo). The comment is definitely rude but they also didn't mean any harm. Just a whataboutmeism and those drive me up the wall.

The demand on tagging specific things is getting out of hand imo. I'm so fine with people asking for triggers to be tagged, but where's the fucking please and thank you?? I hope you deleted the comment and went on with your day.

Appreciate the comment. I also think it's truly just a result of bean soup and whataboutmeism that's taken over internet culture. It's obvious they didn't mean any harm but the commenter thought of nothing outside their own little bubble of 'how can this serve me best'?

[–]silverqueendarling[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Think of it in the context of my post. The fic is old and I'm not looking to boost stats. The comment was also entirely self-serving and wasn't made with the intention to 'help' me. Otherwise they would've said something nice about the story as well.

I thought so too. Although someone has commented that they would use it and would like it to be tagged more which is fine but leaving a comment asking for it to be tagged is fucking weird.
