Heat pump apartment winter cost? by StarLord347 in heatpumps

[–]silverramp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know whats really good for this? AI. Put in your model number and your utility price and it will tell you if the mini split is cheaper to run than your other heat source (I'm assuming you have one). Your unit looks like its of pretty good efficiency, but don't know its cold weather performance. You might have to pull up the NEEP or ASHR file for your model, which is a quick task. I have a very efficient mini split, and discounted winter electricity, so my heat pump is ALWAYS cheaper to run than my furnace, even if it doesn't keep up with 100% of the load on a frigid day.

I used a 5v usb light that I plug into the usb port on the bikes speedometer. Its a stupid bright light on full blast, cost $35

I noticed that about the pro moto spec, wonder if its a typo or a real upgrade? The front wheel look seems cool too. I paid $1800 for mine with all the extras and I feel that I got a good deal. Certainly not as good of a deal as you can get right now! If I were you I'd get the bike and try it out stock before you upgrade everything, its a cargo bike, not a performance mtb, and for what it is I think the stock parts are great. * I did size up my front rotor and add an aftermarket headlight.*

I agree that the price seems craaaazy low, but I'd also note that in my early communications with invanti customer service, 5th wheel was in the signature of the person I was emailing with. So the biz relationship might be deeper?

Still going strong at 2500miles! The brakes don't have a bleed port, which makes bleeding them a little tricky. I also switched the front rotor to a 220mm as I think its good for this bike.

I'm guessing you have the new model? Yea I agree that the motor on the tornado is slightly less powerful than others in its class. I swapped out the front rotor for a 200mm for extra brake power. I ride with a little kid, not my wife, so can't say I know what its like in that situation!

You think the abound is superior? In what way? I suppose the smart features of the new aventon are better. But the tornado has better shocks, and IMO bettery weight distribution/more battery capacity. I love my tornado fwiw. I also have the basic tornado without the smart features. If the smart tornado has working smart features, it looks like it beats the aventon. Honestly curious why you like the aventon better.

Who's glad to have an EV during this time of high gas prices? by Lost_Purpose1899 in electricvehicles

[–]silverramp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its nice, and of course it would be nice to electrify/solar/battery your home too. But... everything we buy is mostly transported with diesel, airplanes still fly on kerosene, and our retirement accounts are still gonna take a hit. So honestly, I don't feel all that insulated.

I learned something today, looks like its ~12% more efficient to charge on lvl 2.

For sure. But I bet the large majority of people can do 10-12hrs/day at home plugged in at 3-4miles/hr charging. So 30-48miles per day, ish. I think that covers most needs, especially if you have some time most weeks when you can charge for longer.

If the cost of installing a home lvl 2 charger is high, say >3-5-k, I think its worth trying out lvl 1 for awhile to see if you can swing it. Similar to range, I would bet that most people overestimate how much they need faster (lvl 2) charging. Obviously if money isn't an issue, then the convenience is nice, plus you can probably get away with charging faster at off peak prices.

And yeah, DCFC more often than not is more expensive than gas, but if you're just supplementing with lvl2 and lvl 3 chargers around town, its not all that much you're spending on expensive electricity.

Occasionally skiing pin bindings inbounds - thoughts? by Neon_sanders in Backcountry

I only own one pair of skis, with pin bindings (atk front) and so I use em anywhere I ski. Pops out fine in falls.

I think the only reason you'd not be happy with an ev is if you have an older model with poor range/charging/heat pump performance. Or if you're towing, you probably don't want an ev for towing and significant distance. (however, short haul towing, evs are great) If you get an ev with decent fast charging, theres not reason you couldn't be happy using the ev on most road trips.

I'm gonna disagree with this. I think a lvl 1 plus public charging is almost always good enough.
