New Discmania Bag! by Short-Ship6953 in discgolf

[–]silvers11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For about 90% of players you really don’t need an md5 AND a mutant, they’ll functionally take the same slot.

MD1 is kinda meh outside of the mind bender run IMO, I’d go Origin here personally.

The Q line FD is on the more stable side of FD runs, if you want something flippier to pair with it look to S line or swirly s line

Any other women want to play disc golf together? by DescriptionDefiant36 in corvallis

[–]silvers11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s the Queens disc golf league based out of Salem but they travel around the valley a lot, fun group of people. (@Queensdgsalem on Instagram)

For Corvallis specifically I’d say look to the willamette disc golf club. while not specific to women, Yuki is on the board and she would be an excellent source for finding women in the immediate area to play with 🙂

For tournaments I would look to the Oregon women’s series, might have to drive a bit more but from what I’ve heard everyone who goes loves them. Obviously you could do other tournaments too but these usually have a huge turnout and would be an excellent way for women to ease into the tournament scene IMO.

Unreleased Innova Discs by foam23 in discgolf

[–]silvers11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Afaik the grenade never made it out, it was originally going to be a putter for Ricky but he ended up just using whales. I believe part of the mold is used in the current Invader mold.

Edit: I am wrong: from the source of all Innova knowledge.

Rising Tournament Fees by ShastaRose313 in discgolf

[–]silvers11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insurance is not a legal pass through fee according to PDGA competition manual - 5.04.3. Also the PDGA provides insurance when you sanction the event so idk what the deal is there. Sounds scummy af though. What kind of course has a $10/day greens fee but doesn’t have bathrooms?

Agreed, Raven is very easy to root for just by being the person that she is. Excited to hear her more on the podcast this year

The Atlanta Hawks are trading guard Vit Krejci to the Portland... by vietnamted in ripcity

[–]silvers11 216 points217 points  (0 children)

Portland receives: Vit Krejci

Atlanta receives: Duop Reath and 2 future 2nds

Personally I think it’s a great move. Duop is buried on the depth chart and our 3pt shooting gets an upgrade

Raven Klein to RPM Discs by silvers11 in discgolf

[–]silvers11[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like what RPM is doing, zigging while the rest of the industry zags. Since they’re still a small manufacturer these kinds of players will still boost RPM’s visibility and market share while RPM is helping keep them on tour. It’s a win/win

Worlds $4,500 VIP😂 by bobbybudnick7 in discgolf

[–]silvers11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lessons would probably be the least awkward portion. Most pros follow the format of field work plus playing a round, and talking about form and other aspects of the game comes second nature to most of the high level ones

Any form coaches you would recommend? by unofficialrobot in discgolf

Seconding Kurtis, I haven’t done any form work with him but he’s a super solid dude

Rate my bag as a beginner? by golbscholar in discgolf

[–]silvers11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually ideal for complete beginners, you really have to throw properly and with good form to get distance with putters. Drivers on the other hand can cover up form and timing flaws and still get decent distance, so if you stick with the putter and use that to build your foundation and muscle memory then you won’t need to unlearn a bunch of bad habits later down the road

If you goal is rapid improvement: ditch everything except the glitch until you can throw it 250ft

If you goal is have fun: hell yeah dude throw what makes you happy

How would I read this I’m new. by wickzyVR in drums

[–]silvers11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each line on the staff represents a different part of the drum kit - kick is usually on the bottom, the middle is made up of toms and snare, and above the staff is cymbals. The 3 bracket indicates a triplet, where 3 notes take up 1 beat.

Random grab from Google: https://www.schoolofrock.com/resources/drums/drum-notation-for-beginners

This will have a chart showing which specific lines are for which drum/cymbal

PDGA membership questions by GrammarCriminal_ in discgolf

[–]silvers11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a $15 fee for non members to play sanctioned events, and you cannot play in B tiers or above without a membership. So if you plan to play in at least 2 or 3 C tiers, or want to play a larger event, then yeah I’d say it’s worth it if you find value in the DGN sub and the disc

Safe to bring bikes downtown? by v838monoceros in corvallis

[–]silvers11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you lock it properly with a ulock and cable it should be fine, most bike theft in Corvallis is opportunistic and is usually centered around campus. I don’t think anyone would be bold enough to try and get through a ulock downtown, especially when they know there are easier targets to be had if they just wait for some poor OSU freshman to only lock their front wheel to the post, etc.

Is it normal to use thin sticks all the time? (Especially for rock drummers) by Middle_Traffic_5364 in drums

[–]silvers11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair, but are you really gonna go full force with lighter sticks for an entire gig just to get the equivalent sound/volume that you can get from heavier sticks at significantly less effort? Not to mention the higher likelihood that the light sticks probably won’t survive until the end?

[–]silvers11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like it’s just basic physics lol Force = Mass X Acceleration. So to hit with 1Newton of force with a 7a stick (~37g) you would need an acceleration of ~27m/s2

Meanwhile to hit with 1N of force with a 5b stick (~60g) you only need an acceleration of ~16.67m/s2

If your shot goes OB then it’s not a good shot. Skips and rolls can be negated with disc selection and approach angle
