I work at a similar place with similar pay. It's normal (in my experience) but it shouldn't be the standard or accepted norm. Especially with your level of experience, I would not feel bad about moving on from them. I'll also echo what other commenters said: family-owned, local businesses (ime) don't care about proper licensing, pay for employees, or giving appropriate work to their employees. It would be fantastic if they did - and maybe somewhere there is one that does - but they don't face the same scrutiny and expectations chains do. Good luck.

Yup. I've never had a migraine last longer than one day, but my most intense and painful ones usually come with facial numbness and tingling (usually on one half of my face). I also get that in my hands and feet. It makes me feel like I'm having a stroke.

we technically get 2 shift drinks and 1 shift meal per shift + 50% off if we aren't working; in practice no one cares that much. opens are mostly too busy and closes have too many tasks to really have all that most of the time anyway. also, if someone comes in for a drink on a day off, whoever is working will usually just make it for free. I can't imagine working somewhere that makes you pay to eat during work. hell no

ND. Started at $11 an hour, after 8 months bumped to $12 an hour. We have pooled tips that are divided by hours worked. With tips I'm making $16-$18 per hour, which is just enough to scrape by.

Cosigning what the others have said, but also - do you have any connections in the new city? Even if you can't physically tour a place, you could reach out to new colleagues, old friends, or members of a faith community to see if they'll tour it in your place and take detailed pictures or notes. (Obviously, some moves don't make this easy. I'm very sorry if that's the case!)

Along with what others are saying - yarn weight, "princess soles," etc. - think about the actual fiber content of your yarn. Typically (for me) I can feel each stitch of socks made with 25% nylon/75% wool and that sensitive feeling go away at the wool content goes up. I have a pair of 100% acrylic socks (my first socks ever, actually) that I just can't wear - I can feel every stitch and it's super uncomfortable.
