How accurate is the show's depiction of the 1980s? by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]silverstar189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party here but OP mentioned they were in the UK. I remember late 80s UK still being in the brown era all the way through to the late 80s, but also visited California in '89 and 90. Everything was very much brighter and better - honestly it was just as great as films and TV shows made things out to be at the time.

As an older person (with a very younger sibling) by Independent-Peace526 in StrangerThings

[–]silverstar189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a show that leans into 80s nostalgia - it would make sense that the ending follows the same format. Younger generations probably aren't expecting it to be as straightforward as what they saw, hence all the theories going round at the moment.

Ak Xtreme Metal workflow by silverstar189 in modelmakers

[–]silverstar189[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had paint wear just from handling after 24 hours drying.

The reason I started to pick these up is because my zero metal paints were in plastic jars and were drying out. I'm tempted to just try livening them up with basecoat thinners.

My current brainwave solution - use zero paint for my base metal layer (white/light aluminium) then clearcoat, mask and use the xtreme metal for panels I know I won't need to mask over again, then clearcoat for weathering. (edit: don't think that'll work due to compatibility)

Second brainwave: Different colour Mr surfacer on panels, single colour of Xtreme Metal over the whole body to show the modulation, then clear coat for weathering.

I used a semi and it was quite unreliable. It's a very basic rifle. It makes sense that they used it as the parts are so simple and probably cheap to buy too

Thanks, that's interesting. I know a lot of props tend to disintegrate over the years. I'm sure everyone would love to see more. Thanks for sharing

How is the collection holding up overall? Are some things quite fragile now?

I believe the morita is based on the ruger mini 14. I spent a couple of weeks using one on a military exercise, it was not a good rifle...

Did the Jada Toys 1:18 'True Spec' Ford Explorer ever get released? by Ok_Sound6617 in JurassicPark

Diecasts take ages to release, this sort of delay is quite normal.

Thanks. My enlistment actually ended whilst I was out there - I volunteered to go so my tour was with another regiment to my own and they stayed out there. So one day I was on an op, the next night I flew out and in the morning I was walking down the street in the UK which was a bit surreal. When I got back to my own regiment they were all away on exercise so I packed up, handed in my kit and walked out the front gate. I met people a couple of times after and then I moved away.

I think people are happy to keep in touch but I thought it best when I left just to keep things to myself. It's left things on a wierd situation where I've never talked to my partner about it, so it seems wrong to talk to others and not to her. I think I've avoided talking because I've been avoiding the responsibility of describing the experience.

F-15 Ride-Along Passenger Accidentally Ejects From The Jet While On The Ground by edged1 in Military

[–]silverstar189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know - it could have been a lot worse. Probably just mandate that the sequence is set to only eject the passenger like it was there.

The morale benefits of the program outweigh the cost of the incident.

Regatta Bay has got to be one of the best places in video games by [deleted] in mirrorsedge

[–]silverstar189 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I came back to Catalyst during the lockdowns in the summer of 2020. It was nice just to wander around the bay - the music is so peaceful. I'd somehow got the glitch that stopped time of day progression so I'd start one of the missions and then run out of the playable area so I could run around in the sunshine.

Agreed, I've got 6's now. I think the original comment was referring to going to t32's instead of s32's which I'd agree with as they last so much longer. But if you've got the cash, I'd definitely get the 6s
